I went to Natural Scalp Spa in Ventura expecting a relaxing, professional head-spa experience, and unfortunately it was one of the worst spa experiences I've had. I will not be returning.
For the entire treatment, you are seated in a salon shampoo chair that reclines backward into the shampoo bowl. This is where I was expected to remain for the entire service, with my neck resting against the shampoo bowl.
My neck was absolutely killing me during the treatment from lying back in that position with my neck feeling completely contorted against the shampoo bowl. I specifically asked her if I could sit upright in the chair and have her continue the service while I was sitting up because I was so uncomfortable. She told me no--the chair does not go up and stays reclined like that for the entire treatment.
To make matters worse, the towel that had been placed underneath my neck became soaking wet, so now I was lying there with an already painful neck resting on a wet towel. I finally had to ask her to please remove it and give me a dry towel.
My appointment was last night, and my neck is still hurting today.
The scalp massage itself was extremely disappointing. The woman working on me applied shampoo and gave what felt like a very half-hearted massage. At one point, she was actually massaging my scalp with ONE HAND. If I'm paying good money for a professional scalp treatment, I expect the person performing the service to use both hands and actually put some effort into making the treatment relaxing.
Instead of a soothing, feel-good scalp massage, much of the treatment consisted of a massage technique that simply was not relaxing or enjoyable for me.
The worst part was when she turned the water on while I was reclined in the salon shampoo chair with my head resting over the bowl, left the water running over my head, and then WALKED OUT OF THE ROOM. I was left lying there alone for approximately 15 minutes. I could not believe that was supposed to be part of a professional head-spa treatment.
When she finally rinsed my hair, she did not properly rinse the shampoo from the nape/back of my head where my hair was resting against the neck portion of the shampoo bowl. I specifically asked her to rinse my hair more thoroughly, and even after asking, I LEFT THE SALON WITH DRIED SHAMPOO STILL IN MY HAIR.
The service was also supposed to include blow-drying my hair. She did not properly blow-dry my hair at all. I literally left the salon with wet hair.
Then came the part that really topped off an already terrible experience. When I went to pay, I was TOLD that I needed to leave her a tip. I still gave her $10, which I thought was extremely generous considering the quality of the service I had just received. Rather than thanking me, she appeared unhappy with the amount of the tip and did not even say thank you.
A tip is supposed to be a voluntary expression of appreciation for good service. After receiving an incomplete, inattentive treatment, leaving with wet hair AND shampoo still dried in my hair, I think $10 was more than generous.
This was supposed to be a relaxing head-spa experience. Instead, I spent the treatment reclined in a salon shampoo chair with my neck in an extremely uncomfortable position, had to ask for a soaking-wet towel underneath my neck to be replaced, was told I could not sit upright when I asked, and then spent approximately 15 minutes lying there alone with water running over my head while the person providing my service was out of the room.
I left with shampoo still in my hair, my hair still wet, and a neck that was already hurting--and is still hurting the following day.
For me, this was neither relaxing nor worth the money. I will absolutely never return to Natural Scalp Spa. read more
