I knew Natural Grocers when they were Vitamin Cottage. If you visit, you can faintly see the Vitamin Cottage logo to the left of the Natural Grocers sign on the outside. Natural Grocers was the OG. Before Whole Foods, Sprouts, and before the Boise Cooperative, it was Natural Grocers. It's a great story, look it up and read about Margaret and Phillip Islely, their $200 bucks, and their dream. I've visited several times, and while it may still have a following, it gets lost in the ever-expanding sections of your traditional grocers. It wasn't long ago, that you would NOT see vegan cheese in the cheese aisle, or plant-based meats in the meat section, but now they are there, whether it's something you eat or not. The vegetable and fruit section is smaller than the Co-Op at the Village but sometimes it's good to have a second chance. The vitamin section as well as the community hang-out section to the right when you walk in should not be missed. One thing that often gets missed is that some shoppers see these grocers as vegan or vegetarian. While it's true that they stock vegan and vegetarian items, they also have organic meats and meat products. Seriously, every time I come here I say, "why don't I come here?" It is simply put, awesome! Decent prices (some the same as non-organic and gmo as found in other stores) simple maneuvering, quaint, and not extremely packed! It has everything I need and then the fun nutrition isles are my dessert for my visit... my reward. I must say, try to practice being disciplined or else you'll end up spending way too much money on really cool things or food. Be good to your body, shop here. I'll only be shopping here for certain items.. However raspberries and blackberries are ALWAYS moldy. Always. It's upsetting when it's $6 for a tiny little thing of raspberries only to find out 75% of them are moldy. read more

It's fine if u need one or two things. Usually produce is always moldy and I've gotten $7 cheese there a couple times that has expired and had green mold on the inside of the package. (Not like blue cheese mold like mold mold) and the cashiers are always in a bad mood, but those turtle truffles ....always keep me coming back read more

Fantastic place! They have all of your natural foods! I moved here from AZ and down there I shopped at Sprouts. We were sad that there was nothing like Sprouts here....other than Whole Foods...which is great, but we all know they are pricey as hell. Then, we discovered this place. Some things are expensive, but overall, the prices are not bad at all. Their produce is fresh! Its organic! Its so good! I love this store! Has tons of gluten free products...not just food too! This is my FAVORITE specialty grocery store, a better and cheaper whole foods. Yes it's going to be more expensive then winco, but for someone who loves vegan junk food this place offers great prices. I find things here that not even whole foods has for an even cheaper price. They also have a discount bin most of the time which is nice. They don't use plastic bags but cardboard boxes, so eco-friendly. I went to Natural Grocers in hopes of finding some great Organic produce at reasonable prices. When I viewed the pictures on Yelp it looked fairly large in size. However, I wonder if that was based on a different location because I found a very small selection at extremely high prices. It didn't take long to find the exit. read more

This grocery store is awesome! If I lived closer to it, I'd be here all the time. They have very friendly staff and an awesome selection of health store foods, but at a cheaper rate than Whole Foods. I would say that price-wise, it falls somewhere in between Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. The atmosphere is clean and calm. Okay so I love the Boise Co-Op but sometimes a girl just gotta save some money!!! For this reason, Natural Grocers is the ace up my sleeve. I can get all my basics here for a great deal AND not have to settle for substandard quality or the Walmart/Albertsons/Fred Meyer scene. If you're reading this review you probably know what I'm talking about. I'm a giant nerd - so you don't have to be! I've already compared prices with NG, Trader Joes and Co-Op on some basic items like Kerrygold butter, chocolate, eggs and coconut oil - even grassfed uncured hotdogs (great for a quick snack!). Natural Grocers' prices are just sooooo reasonable. Plus you don't have to drive downtown to Trader Joes just to find out they don't carry extra dark chocolate without soy lecithin. Don't get me wrong, I love me some TJs, but sometimes I seriously do not need or want and entire bundle of zuchinnis or organic celery. And sometimes I really want my grassfed meat to be more local than Argentina. Natural grocers has everything you need - including a killer supplement section and a well appointed personal care product section (larger than co-ops cheaper than whole foods!). This is definitely a good place to grab/stock up on your essentials. Hit TJs and Co-Op to fill in the blanks and if you're feeling like you need to "treat yo self" hit the Whole Foods. Oh, and don't forget to BRING YOUR OWN BAG/S!! They legit do not have bags here. You will have to carry out your groceries in a cardboard produce box or in your sweater - so don't forget your fabulous reusable bags! I always forget this store exists and then when I'm at Cost Plus realize that I should be shopping here more often. It's a little store, but they've got an amazing variety of natural products you can't find elsewhere. Coconut milk yogurt? Frozen chopped squash? Coconut almond butter? Likely you could find these at Whole Foods or the Co-op, but the prices here are pretty reasonable, and the store is much more convenient. I haven't price compared, but all the products I've bought have been about what I expected to pay. The produce is always very fresh and looks well cared-for. They sometimes offer packaged sandwiches, burritos, and salads, but don't count on picking one up for lunch as sometimes they run out. If they have them, however, they've usually got some interesting choices and again, things are reasonably priced. They've got a tomato mozzarella salad with balsamic dressing that I love. They've got a bulk food section with a great variety of grains, and a huge health and beauty area. I haven't been in there, so I can't speak for it, but given its size you should be able to find what you need. I also appreciate their open return policy. If you don't like it, they'll take it back and give you a replacement or refund, and without a hassle. It's nice to feel like you can try something new without risking hating it and losing money. The staff is what makes a store like this stand out from others, and Natural Grocers stands out. They have a little room at the side of the store with little carafes of coffee and tea for you to sip while you shop, and a table you can enjoy if you'd like to eat or read while you're there. They also offer cooking and natural products seminars, so you can look for fliers to see what is coming up next. They seem to really want to help with the community and engage with people and helping them get healthy. They don't have to do so--they just choose to. I absolutely respect and appreciate that. Honestly one of the best kept secrets in Boise. A friend told me about Natural Grocers and I resisted visiting, thinking, "It's near the mall. It's not a name I know. I'll just head to the Co-op." But I'm really happy I took a chance on Natural Grocers. Yes, it's a pain to get to and I hate the traffic in the Town Square area, but it's worth it to save money on things that I buy online or at other retailers in the area. They have a great selection of beauty products, all for less than you can get them outside of mail order. They have a little bit of everything at very reasonable prices, including fresh produce and an extensive cold case. Every time we go, we find something to try that we usually end up liking and buying again (like Farmhouse Culture's horseradish and leek sauerkraut or Hail Merry's lemon tarts). The people who work here are very friendly. We've often looked at the classes offered in their well-appointed classroom/meeting space but we haven't found the time to attend one yet. But the fact that there IS a community meeting space makes it feel more like the Co-op than the Co-op does. If you've never tried Natural Grocers, please do! It may not have the glitz of the Co-op or Whole Foods, but it does have a sense of community and good food at reasonable prices. (Tip: bring your bags. They offer boxes at the front but they do not have plastic or paper bags. We always forget this and end up with a box which can be a little more cumbersome to tote around.) read more

Best grocery store in the Treasure Valley for organic produce and anything natural. The prices are great and their options wide. Returns are even a smooth process. I had purchased something a while back and wasn't happy with it (not food). I had thrown out my receipt but mentioned it to cashier the next time I was in and she had me bring it in at my next visit for a return of in-store credit. This was an unexpected surprise! The staff is friendly and helpful. I've called in a few times asking for specific items, some that they carry and others they don't but offered to order them for me. I can usually find better prices on supplements on Amazon but that's usually the case with a lot that Amazon offers. Nirvana! How have I overlooked this natural foods gem all this time? Maybe because it's on Milwaukee, and I tend to avoid the Mall area as much as possible. But now that I've found Natural Grocers, it will be a regular staple on my list of stores. It has ample, easy parking, great prices, and aisles that are easy to navigate without crowds of people. We've been trying to move to an entirely organic diet...which isn't easy, because most traditional grocery stores do not carry many organic products. That is why I especially appreciate stores like the Natural Grocers. When you walk in the door you realize you are in a different shopping environment. The place has the aroma of herbs and just feels healthy. They have a great selection of organic produce and other fresh foods. The place is immaculate and they keep their shelves well stocked. They have a combination of natural, organic, non-gmo, and gluten-free offerings. There is also an extensive section of vitamins, supplements, and non-food products. The prices are a bit lower than the Boise Co-op on many items. I found many of the more unusual items I had been searching for here. They also sponsor events and have a masseuse that is there during certain hours. The only odd moment, during my first visit, was when I shared with the checker that I found Natural Grocers on Yelp and that they had great reviews. Her response?: "well, that's scary." Weird. Natural Grocers has a great selection of organic, gluten free and vegan products that are competitive with many of the "big names" in Boise. They offer lower prices by cutting out the frills -- bring your own bags or else you will need to use the recycled boxes they have up front. We discovered Natural Grocers about a year ago. We had been buying our supplements elsewhere when someone mentioned that Natural Grocers had better prices. They were right. Everything we had been buying was several dollars less at Natural Grocers. We have price shopped lots of vitamins/supplements and their prices are better than the other 3 large stores in town. Typically their prices are comparable to Amazon. Their product knowledge is incredible. They can tell you which brand to buy for your needs and why including how the different products are made and the differences between them.
