It is operated by a mother and daughter. The daughter selectis merchandise for the north part of the store. I purchased a Chinese spam musibi-shaped night light for a gift. The item was very cheaply made and quickly broke. The store offered an exchange, refund or gift card. The daughter said she sent the night lights back because other customers had broken theirs. The quality of the locally-made items is very good and there is a wide variety of items.

The guy was spending like 10-mins just explaining details about jewelry they sell to a customer who did not want to buy anything just for fun! The lady behind the counter who helped me was super friendly and nice. And she wrapped what I bought with a lot of care. I wish I lived in Ashland and could visit them more often. I bought a few of their beautiful leather bookmarks for myself, but they're going so fast because everyone loves them and wants one! I wish they had things they sell in their store on their website too, so I could order more bookmarks, but sadly that's not the case.

They run this company which has four distinct parts: Ashlandartist.net is a 'online-gallery' showcasing original artwork of Jean's acrylic paintings. They are offered in Giclee, original acrylic and decoupage art gift boxes. She does commissioned art as well. RecessionCandy.com was 'established out of necessity' in 2009 making wonderful english toffee. Their friends and family encouraged them to pursue Recession Candy Company selling the delicious toffee they call 'simply the best'. The third part of their business is the unique pieces of jewlery, touch stones, slate etchings, etc. they offer at local Farmer's Markets and various artisan markets in Ashland and throughout the Rogue Valley. Then, there is the incredible graphic design work of Kay. She takes Jean's art and creates the decoupage art boxes, mousepads, coasters, notecards, holiday/cards even customizes work for commercial and retail establishments. So I was interested to visit the new 'costume shop' in the Railroad District that opened this summer to see what they had in stock. Renaissance Rose offers a variety of themed costumes you can rent or purchase. They have packaged costumes similar to what you'll find around Halloween at other retailers, but also some more interesting pieces. At this point their website seems to be pretty basic, so hopefully that will expand in the future. After visiting both stores, I think the main location still has the broadest selection of items for purchase. Especially wigs, hosiery and accessories. But, if you are looking for a more unique rental, then the costume shop is worth a visit. I was most interested in the hair pieces near the back of the shop.

They are much more responsive and have increased their hours of operation. They are ordering and receiving shipments in a more timely manner with a good range of clays, glazes and tools. They are very timely and responsive to special orders. Their pricing is very competitive even when compared to larger operations (which are no longer in operation). They are offering a much-needed service to our geographical locations. They also offer classes as well as firing services. They also are providing their supplies to local schools in Southern Oregon and Northern California.
