I did a 1 day hunt boar yesterday with Mike on his beautiful ranch situated next to Ft. Liggett roughly 120 miles south of San Jose. It couldn't have been better or more fun. The great experience had everything to do with Michael (Mike), who is a gentleman, a great host and most interesting guy. Mike asked me to be at the ranch at 5:45 a.m. This was actually 4:45 a.m. as it was the first day of daylight savings time. I was there early. Mike was there early. From that point we hit it off fine. Mike has a few core values and one of them is being early or, at worst, being on time. Boar are in "season" all year. Other hunts at other times do have season dates and can be for deer, bison, etc. Mike has wild ferals, Eurasian and a few European silverbacks. As this was my first boar, wild feral was fine. These range across Ft. Liggett and Mike's land. We discussed and Mike was fine with that. Mike is happy to help find trophy boars -- whatever the hunter wants. Prices go up with size of tusk. I was there for just one day. However longer hunts are available and there is a gorgeous guest house on the property that sleeps up to 20 with a resort-style outdoor bar and kitchen. Be sure to have your license for the in-season species you are hunting. So just before dawn we began a walk up a hillside path then into a steep draw where we could easily smell boars. Before long we came up on five or six pigs at about 100 yds resting on a hillside and they got wind of us at about the same time we saw them. Mike checked them over then told me I could shoot anyone I wanted (which meant without additional trophy fees). So from a standing position I fired and one went down. This is a California Condor lead free area which means the ammunition that you use must have an expanding bullet made entirely out of copper. Not as effective as lead, the bullet did its job and I attached my tag to the pigs ear. This guy weighed around 250 lbs. Likely 3 years old with 2 - 3 inch tusks. Mike says that hunters have taken boar there up to 600 to 700 lbs. As everyone who has been hunting knows, that's when the real work begins. Mike got his truck, we loaded it up and went to the shed for "processing." Many years ago I would have eagerly done this myself but quite frankly was happy to have Mike do it. We talked the whole time and shared stories. On the way back to Mike's trailer he called a butcher in San Jose for me and the the butcher agreed to open up on Sunday so that I could bring him my meat to be turned into nice little packages of roasts, steaks and sausages. I've been to a few hunting lodges and have been on many many many hunts across the U.S. over the past 50 or so years. Quality operations like Native Hunt are rare finds. And to have Mike and Native Hunt so close to San Jose is a treasure. Did I forget to say its reasonably priced? Yes it is. Far less expensive that getting on an airplane with the hassle these days of checking in guns, renting trucks, out of state license fees, etc. etc. I told Mike that I appreciated very much his giving me his Sunday and providing such a wonderful experience and I meant it. This is a great place. p.s. Native Hunt business office is in san jose. that's why my review is posted in two different locations.

We went out to Native Hunt this past weekend Feb 3, 2023 and it was the best hunting experience I have ever had.

We spent two days in Cape Town with organized dinners, tours and wine tasting. We transferred to private reserves and lodges managed by "and Beyond" and spent 12 days at three different reserves and lodges on wonderful "game drives" where we saw all the wild animals we went to Africa to see, up close and personal. The lodges and food were great and our whole experience was managed by the &Beyond teams as arranged by John. It was a great experience!

My…read morewife and I usually book travel ourselves, but for a big family trip with my parents, we ended up working with San Simeon Travel. They are AWFUL. Given the choice to book travel myself and cut off my pinky finger or work with these guys again, goodbye pinky finger. Whenever I have a question, I get snotty and argumentative answers from Alex. I get tons of calls from them asking for information they could have covered in one call. Maybe we got off on the wrong foot when they wanted to book my flights at a higher cost than I could find them online and I decided I'd rather book myself and pay less. But ever since then every conversation feels like a battle with someone who thinks they are too good for me, as opposed to a helpful call with a professional. They also told me that I couldn't take a flight home that left before noon because I wouldn't be able to get there from our cruise. So I called the cruise to confirm, and they said that I should be able to take any flight after 10am. So the travel agency was programming in an extra two hours of sitting in an airport. Honestly, theses guys are making everything worse, not better. I would pay more to NOT have to deal with this company ever again.
