One of the best well kept secret for fair grocery prices. Their food court is also so fair priced and has a wide variety. In my last visit, I ordered a bing fen dessert from there. It was loaded with toppings and it was the perfect refresh treat after a grocery store trip. One downside is that if you need help with finding anything. It's always hard to find employees near. The place itself is mostly clean and well stocked. It gets the job done. read more

Nations Fresh Foods at the Stockyards in Toronto is one of my top favourite grocery stores and food court! Been going here for years and I love it so much! I saw on their flyer that their BBQ Chinese duck was on special for $19.99 uncut, regular price $34.99. Only two left on day I dropped by but I got this juicy beauty. BBQ duck can be very rich and fatty so this is a rare treat for myself. So delicious! Service from the butcher was slow because of this duck sale but I should have come earlier than noon which I usually do. I couldn't wait to get home so I decided to eat in the dining area of Nations Fresh Foods. So delicious with just steamed rice and some veggies! read more

If you're tired of going to dingy Asian grocery stores full of dented cans and weird smells, you have to experience Nations Experience. Based on reviews, I had to check out the food bars. Yes, I confirmed that the self-serve takeout food bars are like what you'd find at Whole Foods, except very Asian-centric and on steroids. And the prices are very affordable for the food bar AND for general grocery items throughout the vast store. One pound can of HK egg roll cookies for CDN$6? That's like 1990's pricing! The food court near the entry of the store has easy access to the food bars and value-priced bubble tea options too. We left here with CDN$30 of unique Asian food products, snacks you can only find in Asian stores. Parking is free and plentiful since this store is part of a larger mall. Only downside is that the location is far from the Asian 'burbs of Markham & R.H. But for deals & meals, this store is worth the occasional drive. read more

Not the cheapest to get your groceries, nor the cheapest with their hot food selections. My suggestion is go there towards closing when their prepared food section is reduced. Too unorganized with too many products in the middle of the isle. read more

We like Nations. We mostly come here because of the "Happy Kingdom" playground (I have a 6.5 and 3.5 year old), but when we do come, we always do a bit of shopping at Nations. Or at the very least, get some of their prepared take-out food. The hot food table is so-so. Not the best and not the worst. The food is an okay value and the taste is fine but not as good as our favourite Chinese restaurants. Same with the sushi. Decent value but not as good as our local joint. It hits the spot though. Good deals here if you shop the flyer. For example, today sweet red peppers were on sale at $1.29/lb. Chicken legs $1.29/lb., broccoli crowns $1.29/lb. My favourite Renee's salad dressings are $3.99, regular price-- they're like $6.99 elsewhere. I always stock up on those when we're here. They also have a few things we can't find at our local Metro, including frozen boxes of Tin'Nel's beef Pattie's for $17.99 a dozen. Fresh Vietnamese buns, 5 for $1.99. Kimchi, Chinese cooking sauces, random Asian treats for the kids, etc... It gets really crowded on weekends but that goes for everything in the City, I suppose. Free parking, washrooms, a sitting area if you get hungry and can't wait to bring your prep food home. My only complaint is that they unnecessarily wrap a lot of their produce in styrofoam trays and plastic. Like, why? Makes me second guess my purchases but unfortunately I'm not in a financial position to argue :/ read more

It's got one of the coolest atmospheres in the city in terms of a grocery store. It really is an experience. It's been awhile since I've been as I'm not in the area as much. My very first experience with Nations Fresh Foods was the location in Vaughan/Woodbridge. I was most impressed by it. Then I went to the location in Mississauga and was much less impressed. This location at Stock Yards Village is pretty good. In addition to the grocery store and food court, they also have an arcade and a kids play area with huge slides and a ball pit. So Nations is an international grocery store. It has foods from all over the globe. This diversity is reflected in their food court. They have foods such as pizza, burgers, fish and chips, quesadillas, dim sum, bubble tea, jerk chicken and chicken biryani. They have pay-by-weight buffet items (both hot and cold), a la carte, combos, made-to-order, and pre-packaged. The grocery is big and bright. They have a small bakery section. I did get some Portuguese Egg Tarts ($1.19 each), which I ordered from the counter and weren't pre-packaged, but unfortunately they were stale. The crust was soft and chewy, not flaky and crispy :( I'm hoping this was a one-off. They had lots of cool stuff that I had never seen before like Coffee flavoured with Mangosteen from the Phillipines, an effervescent drink from Italy, and some Pandan flavoured condensed milk (forget where it was from, but I think the Philippines). They had exotic KitKats from Japan and exotic Lays Potato Chip flavours. My parents and I did eat at the food court and overall the food was pretty good by food court standards. I'm giving this place 4 stars because of the cool factor, and that it's different than any grocery store I've ever seen. It's in the maze-like structure that is Stock Yards Village. Lots of free parking if you can find your way around, lol. read more

Who knew you could have fun grocery shopping! This place has everything, even a playground and arcade for little kids (although probably not cheap). The grocery store itself is huge and has a wide selection of hot foods and takeout as well. I especially love their end of day sales on those. Even after hearing all about how this store has everything, I was still surprised by how much of...everything...it has. It's quite literally the one-stop shop for all your food needs! I saw their logo "where east meets west" painted on a wall outside, and I must say I quite agree. Stroll down the condiments aisles and you'd find anything from the traditional ketchup and barbecue sauce to soy sauce and vinegar to those weird Chinese spices with weird labels. Snacks? Chips, cookies, Pocky, dried squid, more Asian stuff. Noodles? Spaghetti and pasta, egg noodles, ramen, soba, shirataki...and these were only the ones I recognized. I didn't feel like wandering into the bustling cooked food section this time, but it certainly looked like an international buffet! With respect to fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, and seafood, the quality seems to be quite a bit higher than the typical supermarket. Prices are also not the cheapest, but in my opinion mostly reasonable. The entire place was clean and spacious, and the staff/cashiers - while not the fastest - were friendly enough. Overall a good shopping experience! I'd need to come back to take a slow walk through the entire place and see what other edible treasures I can find :) read more

I've been coming here since it first opened and still come because it has everything I need and want. What I come here for: 1. Vegetables - the largest selection and arguably cheapest selection in area 2. Fruits - it is a large selection but I don't find it's always the best quality, I stick to apples, pears, stone fruit and avocados. I stay away from grapes (poor quality and expensive) and bananas (too green and more expensive) 3. Meat - again largest selection and I try to stick to the ones on sale 4. Fish - there used to be on sale items every week but now I find it's few and far between 5. Cold cuts - by far the cheapest I've found 6. Ready made foods - both western and asian. For western, it's not that they are the tastiest, it's that some of the specials are just too good to refuse 7. Dim sum - some of the ready made ones are good but I also get the frozen ones to satisfy my cravings What I stay away from a. home essentials such as toilet paper, cleaning supplies, pastas What I do not like a. the carts are only outside and the general area is dirty (lots of trash, gloves, masks) b. there is no social distancing, there an announcements to stay 6ft apart but let's be honest, that is just not practical in here, there is no space for that c. people who wear their mask below their mouth, i'd rather you not fake covering your chin and just take it off There is plenty of parking, and it takes forever to get everything I want there. read more

I've got this thing for going to grocery stores that different from your typical national chains. This one checks off all the right boxes. Lots of choice, decent space in the aisles, decent prices, fresh seafood. The bonus is a good selection off the hot food table and a large food court. Food was kinda meh, but the variety kinda makes up for it. They even have a paid children's play area and a video game arcade. Nice to see the old Target spot is being used well. read more

Wow I'm speechless. I'm surprised that this supermarket would have it's on food court and a gaming arcade for the kids. I quickly glanced around to see what the supermarket had in-stock. Usually you don't find cheese or deli meats in Asian owned supermarket. They have both and have a competitive price compared to Loblaws and metro. I also checked to see their Asian snack selection and its massive. The prices are fair and not that crazily jacked up compared to those specialty snack stores. Afterwards I explored their drink selection, they have a huge variety of Asian, and south american drinks. I also checked their herbs selection and see hard to find stuff like galganga, curry leaves, and keffir lime leaves. I also found so many weird vegetables that I don't usually find in Chinatown. Lastly I checked the meat department, the prices for meat were either equivalent or cheaper than Chinatown. I also found game meat such as duck and rabbit. And they have a pretty nice seafood selection. read more

We went to Nations Experience store for lunch and grocery shopping. The store is located in the former Target store. The place is huge with many Asian products from around the world. But I thought that the prices were more expensive than the supermarkets in Chinatown. We had lunch at Nations Experience supermarket. They have a huge selection of dishes including dim sum, Indian food, Chinese Food, etc. it wasn't that expensive, but the food court was pretty noisy because of the many kids playing. read more

If you were like me as a child, then you remember the hyper feeling as you walk through the store with your mom or dad. Grabbing the things you want and putting them in the cart. Well, parents, you can take your kids here and they will be preoccupied with the child-friendly entertainment in the store, for children they have a play area, for a small fee. For teenagers, you can load a game card and let them play in the arcade while you shop. And like that, anxious kids throwing tantrums, along with unwanted things into the cart becomes a thing of the past. Finally, because I'm pretty sure every foodie knows the struggle of shopping for certain items, only to run all over the city well I was able to get everything I needed without having to make a trip to Ktown among various other parts of Toronto. And Best of all, unlike the closest competitor they have food made from items available in the store, after all, it isn't good to shop on an empty stomach. And at just over 99 cents for a take out container of curry beef and rice, you cannot beat the price. read more

I wish this place opened last year before I moved away from the area. We came back to the area for a visit and was so pleased with our experience here. The Stockyards parking lot used to be empty but this time around it was filled and busy, a pleasant sight to see. The inside of Nations was very spacious, bright and clean. There was a large variety of fresh prepared foods but I did find it to be a bit on the pricy side. I really enjoyed my shopping experience here as it was basically a supersized version of TnT supermarket. There was plenty of seating area for those that want to eat their purchased hot foods and a big television screen on the side that cannot be missed by anywhere you sit. What I really loved about this place is the kids zone. My mom and I was able to do our grocery shopping without feeling rushed while my husband brought our daughter to the indoor playground. We would definitely pay another visit in the future again. BONUS: public washrooms are near the front entrance by the food seating area. read more

First visit today. I live in the area and this is quite the retail injection to a dull part of town. The place is quite large, well lit, and has an enormous inventory of food products. This place is a sensory sensation! Its Adventure playground is MEDIUM SIZED (but expensive at 16 bucks per kid.) The arcade has Skee Ball which works out to 55 cents a game if you load your card with the $50 best value option. There are other games, like networked arcade Mario Kart, too. Fish and Chips are tasty. Most meals are around 8 bucks. And I hear they sell groceries too! read more

Tip: no wifi. Hot foods discounted at around 7PM. Nations is a supermarket with a lofty goal that it can't quite achieve. The size of the place and the selection of foods is impressive, but ultimately unsustainable. When I first started going to Nations, the Western Kitchen had a lot more selection, and the rotisserie chicken shelves we're full of actual rotisserie chicken. Now it's a quarter rotisserie chicken and the rest is soya chicken from the Chinese BBQ. This is not surprising, since the rotisserie chicken, despite constantly getting space on their flyers as a "sale", was never a good value. They're small and dry and overpriced. The quality of the hot foods is just so-so. Most of the dim sum was left sitting for hours under a heat lamp, and the lunch boxes aren't competitively priced. The sushi station is affordable, but they overuse rice in the nigiri. The best value there is the unagi don when it's on sale - you can get a massive bowl of rice topped with seaweed salad and grilled eel (unagi) for a cool $6.50. Nations definitely has a lot of potential. However, there are a lot of areas where there is a lot of waste, and addressing that issue is a step in the right direction. read more

How swell for the weather to be sunny today which gave me an opportunity to go take a look at Nations Experience. If there is one huge reason to just come to spend a few hours at the Stock Yards Village regardless of which part of Toronto or the GTA you live in, then it's because of this place. This grocery store is like Loblaw's, Metro, T&T and Tone Tai combined with a bit of Galleria and some Vietnamese mom and pop stores add in as grout. I guess if you are able to spend enough time here for a day you'd be going home with enough grocery items without having to go to more than three stores to purchases them. Once I was inside, I was overcome with excitement and glee that I started doing something that I haven't done in any other grocery store... I just started snapping away that the merchandise with my phone, particularly at the more unique brands. Even the play area and the arcade for the kids and kids-at-heart was a good touch to the store. I just loved checking out the items from the Chinese hot food section... I want to get something from there for lunch but I got to this place about 15 minutes before 12pm so the office workers, combined with the families and their kids plus other hungry shoppers made for a very long line-up so I just made do with something from the Western hot foods sections. Even the Vietnamese ready-to-go items were eye-catching enough and there are all those yummy Chinese stuffed bread and pastries... all under big roof!! The coolest thing about checking out the products in the other areas of the store was that I kept seeing brands of products that I had really noticed when I was in other groceries stores. A lot of products and merchandise popped up infront of my eyes as I was strolling down as many aisle as I could. There were even stacks of various teas from the Caribbeans which I hadn't see in anywhere else in the city yet plus more unusual Asian products like exotic tropical fruits, Filipino canned goods marinades and sauces, Chinese drinks and some Japanese noodles products, brands of instant noodles there I've rarely seen in other stores. A lot of the items just kept catching my attention and it was not easy to look away without being in awe. It was worth the trek to venture all the way over to the Stock Yards today... and I know what I'd like to take home next time I get a chance to go to Nations again. :-) read more

took me a while to get here, but I finally made it to nations. I'll be honest with you, I thought it was going to be a lot bigger and I also thought it was going to be multi floored(155.000+ SQ feet). there is no second floor to this mall, just first and third, which explains a lot. when you come up the long escalators the grocery store starts off with a arcade, a kids play area and party rooms, which at first glance is very impressive to see that much effort put into a grocery store, next is the hot tables and anything you could possibly want is here, they have everything from what they call "western" dishes, to sushi, bubble tea and even a salad bar that is pay per weight with some seasonal veggies thrown into the mix. also was really nice to see all the seating that they have laid out for everyone, it was super packed when I went to go take a look around and it looked like seats were still available. I walked over to the grocery section and much to my surprise, I found stuff at this store that I cant find in my local travels, so I ended getting a box and stocked up on a couple of items since I was in the neighborhood. this leads me to the negative about this review, checking out of this place is a nightmare, it literally took over 20 minutes just for me to check out, every cashier was open and working hard, but everything was bottlenecked, a completely different experience from the other side of the store. once I got cashed out I couldn't help but notice the rest of the upper floor, it was very open and desolate, at the time of writing only one other store was on this floor which was a hair cutters? according to the online mall map, it lists nations as being the only one in that space, so they are subletting? it seems like just a waste of good space for either more cashiers or more product, one of the exits that I chose was still completely under renovation, and it looks terrible, really takes away from nations. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, even though I found some rare items, if im in the area is one thing I guess they have lots of parking available on site, and the transit options are the 41 keele, the 89 weston and the 512 st. clair streetcar. read more

Nations Experience - International Grocery Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

One of the best grocery stores I've ever been to - it's definitely not like any regular supermarket in the city, because there's an arcade and a play area for smaller children in the same vicinity - just a bit away from the actual supermarket, but still fairly close by. They have a plethora of different kinds of everything - they sell many Asian dishes and groceries, lots of veggies, fruits, things you can't necessarily find elsewhere, a great cheese section, olives to-go, etc. They also sell hot food and have a small dine-in area. I didn't get a chance to really check out their fish or meat section as I didn't buy any of that, but their snacks section had much to choose from. You would generally find what you're looking for here. They also have a section for pots and pans, and lots of cashiers open as well. I believe they do charge for bags, so be prepared and just bring your own. They also sell the lottery here. read more

The simplest place to go for sometimes harder-to-find produce, East Asian foods and cuts of meat/fish. Cost on most things is I would say at lower end of scale. But this doesn't sacrifice quality. You just have to figure out for yourself if it meets your standards, mine pass. I do 80% of my D2D shopping on lower Roncesvalles at small, local Mom&Pop stores...produce, deli, bakery, milk/eggs...within a 5 minute walk. Some butcher items too, mostly chicken. Sometimes fish. I prefer Nations as my big store. It has the widest selection of produce at great-to-good prices, and an absolute ton of meat selection too, much more than Loblaws/equivalent. And all the East Asian anything you could want, not Indian though. Extensive, extensive dry goods. Fish I am not as certain about, but I do buy some...they do have quite a bit of live fish and shellfish? Today I saw what must have been a 20lb lobster?!? It was massive... But when I need the following, I know it is there: dried mushrooms, Chinese eggplant (dunno why my local guys never have it), any Chinese/Japanese ingredient from bottled to bagged to produce, Flanken/cross-cut beef ribs. And I get whatever I also need from produce/meat/dry goods. They have all the "western" selections too...including a pretty good deli for meat/cheese...maybe not as comprehensive but certainly ok. I usually avoid pre-made, which is extensive and enticing! but so-so, except after 7:00 pm when 50% off happens. Which makes simple BBQ pork/chicken/noodles/etc and a lot of other things pretty attractive for a late meal. I also avoid toiletries/kitchen dry goods, poor selection with no savings, it's not their speciality. The cashier line-ups are usually about a 4/10 on an organisation scale, it's cramped so difficult to see the lines, let alone shortest lines, but when it's busiest, the staff do get pretty organised....one line from the faaaarrrr right for all cashiers, you have to do a great circle route thru pre-made, past deli, to get to the line's end but once you know that, it's fast as anything. I love one queue setups! I think the staff are responsive and helpful myself. Not fancy but not off-putting. No comment on the playground! read more

There are some really good buys and the selection is very good. However, the cashiers and customer service attendees are rude and rarely pleasant. It is a surprise when one actually says hello or thank you. They also never seem to want to go out of their way to assist customers. This has been my experience and I have shopped there regularly for the last 3 years. Super long lineups and the express (up to 8 items) is rarely open. It may be time to shop elsewhere or shop here less often. read more

Nations is definitely an EXPERIENCE, that's for sure. I like to just come here and wander around looking at all the interesting products that are unfamiliar to me and picking out new foods to try. There's also plenty of food you'd find at a run of the mill grocery store like Loblaw's. You've got cooking wares, beauty products, a TON of hot and prepared foods-dim sum, BBQ, the Western section, salad bar, sushi, ice cream by the scoop-fresh baked goods, treats, a butcher, produce and also an arcade and big play place for kids well away from the majority of the shopping. Not your average grocery store, lol. Some of the prices are higher than you'd pay for the same items in other shops, and sometimes the freshness doesn't seem the best with some of the shelved products. I did get some Chinese from the hot food section, but it wasn't good despite smelling great, unfortunately. Was definitely busy though. Lots of cashiers and right on the St. Clair streetcar line, but it's pretty far west and may not be worth a regular trip if you don't live close by. We go almost as a fun outing and for a couple select treats. read more

This is an amazing store and it makes the neighborhood much better. It's a genuinely innovative destination. There's a ton of awesome food from around the world. As an immigrant from America, I promise this place kicks the hell out of Trader Joe's. It's also open till ten, which is kind of sad for a big supermarket, but actually better than average for Toronto, so props for that. It's clean, and the buffet is pretty great. The Asian selection is as good as T and T, but then there's another whole supermarket of floor space for the rest of the world, too! Negatives: they really need to get with the program, environmentally. They put so much in styrofoam and plastic wrap! It's insane - they'll even put garlic in a styrofoam tray. It's way more packaging than Loblaw's and FreshCo, though to be fair, it's no worse than the Chinese competition. Much worse is the genuinely sketchy seafood. I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Forget about figuring out if it's sustainable - I'm confident it's all of the "rape the ocean" variety - you're lucky if they even tell you what species it is! Check out my picture - the trays are all just labeled "seafood." Ummm, no thanks. Last, and this is weird, the escalators are backwards. Seriously. They have you going up on the left and down on the right. Destroying the oceans is worse, I guess, but the backwards escalators are odd. Conclusion: Nations is a fantastic concept that just needs better management and some concern for the earth to be a real winner! I hope they figure it out! ***Update Feb 2019 *** I haven't seen any mystery seafood for the past three or four visits. Therefore, I'm upping this place from four to five stars. I think it is critically important that we start with simply knowing what seafood is. There is room for improvement at Nations with sustainability, but the operation is good enough overall to deserve a great rating, in my opinion. read more

Nations Experience - International Grocery Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

It's a great place to shop for groceries but seriously, as another reviewer wrote, what is it with their shortage of rolly baskets? Why can't they get more? This has been a problem since it opened. The first time I shopped there I asked a worker where I could find a basket, and he pointed outside, where I found many full-sized carts, but no baskets. Today I literally had to stand behind a shopper unloading his basket at the register to stake claim to it, and while doing so, another shopper with her arms full asked me if I was waiting for that basket. I apologetically said yes. Luckily she was nice and moved on. Otherwise it has great prices, great selection and it's clean. It's actually a fun place to shop. There's always something on sale as well. read more

This review is not about the grocery store. It is a review of the children's indoor playground, deserving zero stars, but alas.... Our family purchased tickets and went in, and as soon as we entered the area with the balls, our socks got wet (mandatory to wear socks for hygiene reasons). We informed the young lady at the front, who was very nice and very confused and passed us on to a woman who identified as the owner. She had been very busy on a lap top attempting to figure something out, with a pile of paperwork, appearing very frustrated. I explained to her that the play area appears to be wet and out socks got wet. She said that it had just been cleaned and has not yet dried. She offered no other solution for our now-wet socks (and I'm certain there were others in the same boat as us). We are a family of health care practitioners, and thus understood that this posed a hygiene problem and a potential risk for cross-contamination (think of people who have foot fungus and toe infections from ingrown nails and various other conditions). Ugh! Anyway, after some arguing, she offered to give us socks that they sell for $2 a pair, stating very clearly that she's providing us with these $2 socks for "free" for our inconvenience. She clearly completely missed the point. The socks fit my son, but they didn't fit me. So now what? Wet socks or no socks? Oh, and no refund either. The "owner" didn't seem to neither care about closing down that section nor how concerned we were about the potential health risks, as she quickly returned to whatever stressful thing she was trying to figure out on her computer. This was terrible service and not client-centered. I would be very concerned about their cleanliness and hygiene practices here. My experience is a good example of why this place should be avoided. There are many other places you can take your child (and I've been to many indoor gyms, etc.) where the service is friendly, child- and family-centered, and of course, clean. read more
