Natick Travel Plaza

The Mass Turnpike travel plazas are basically a cookie cutter type of set up with the only…read morenoticeable difference being the size of their parking lots. The one in Natick does have ample parking and is quite maneuverable. What I like about the travel plazas --- They have Papa Gino's pizza. I once read that the pizza one eats while growing up imprints on you regarding pizza type preferences. Papa Gino's is what I grew up on when it came to pizza. We didn't get take out pizza much as kids but when we did, it was always Papa Gino's. We hadn't had Papa Gino's in years so I seized the opportunity to get a slice while at the travel plaza. So...I ordered 2 slices (one for each of us). My husband and I can both say the pizza is as good as we remembered it to be. Sometimes chain pizza joints tinker with their recipe so we were pleased to see that Papa Gino's adheres to the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". For us, it was a real treat to have a slice. The rest of the travel plaza was clean, including the bathrooms, which we appreciated. Next time we use the Turnpike, we will make it a point to stop in a travel plaza yet again, if only for the pizza.

These service plazas are really starting to tick me off…read more I'd like to give it a higher rating, because it's clearly named after my good friend from Yelp Buffalo: Naitik. Unfortunately, I can't, because the gas is more expensive than 98.4% of the other Boston area alternatives, and the workers here are none-too-friendly, either. The food choices here are crappy fast food, cold french fries, expensive, and so on. However just for the sheer convenience of having this right off the highway on the way into Beantown, I'll give it a 2 rather than a Juan. But it's really Nat somewhere I'd stop on purpose.

In the NH welcome center portion of the rest stop the woman at the desk was the least welcoming person you could have there as an ambassador for your state. She could barely communicate and practically ripped a map out of my hand after I had picked it out of the display on the counter. Her explanation on why that was not the map I wanted was incomprehensible. Weird. The other oddity that I had not experienced before were the dozen or so unhoused individuals who were living in their vehicles in this rest stop parking lot. Many appear to have been here for a very long time. I understand that for them it may be a safe place with facilities but I am not sure it provides a safe or inviting environment for the general traveling public especially at night.

Easy access on and off the highway, there is plenty of parking. The welcome area is a cute wood building with high ceilings and lots of information about New Hampshire hotels and activities. Brochures, maps, pamphlets and details on where to go, what to do and what to see in the Granite State. Bathrooms were clean and they had a free wifi. There is both car and truck parking available.
