Looking at this hospice, it is tranquil, dignified, and still. Unfortunately, two individuals tarnish the empathetic pillars on which hospices are built. They managed to sully an already life-changing, sorrowful event further. The only reason this is getting two stars is that most of the staff were wonderful to my father, especially Chamaine, who was genuine and humane. I cannot say the same about Nurse Kate Tuttle, who was in charge of his case. My father came into this hospice facility in agony and was unable to control the escalating pain at home. After two days, he was still in consistent, high-level pain, but we still received a text that he was "ready to go home." When I arrived, my father was still howling in agony. I spoke with the social worker and Kate and asked how he could be released while still in anguish. She said he could control it at home. I wondered how, if they'd been delivering pain meds through his port? She pointedly told me she had switched him to oral medications. Mind you, we were outside of his room, where his distressed moans were audible. I told her they clearly weren't cutting it. She argued that a patient who is eating, talking, and walking should not be in a hospice facility. I mentioned that patient comfort is their prime directive, and that he was there to achieve some semblance of it. I told her that he was unable to lie down because the cancer-ridden bones in his back made it impossible. Instead, in an agitated and increasingly confused state, he shuffled about mindlessly. I said they couldn't ignore his pain, and dropping him to oral meds when he hadn't even achieved a baseline for livability seemed cruel. It seemed like a means to an end to satisfy Medicare, rather than it being in his best interest. I told her that he had said that his pain was at a level 8, and she mockingly said, "He ALWAYS says he's at an 8." The social worker echoed this sentiment. I was horrified at the utter disregard for his suffering. My father had multiple myeloma, which is one of the most painful cancers. I responded, "Have you considered it's because he IS always at an 8?" At one point, they said he would never achieve a zero on the pain scale, which made me point out that there are many numbers between 0 and 8. Why introduce a metric like that if you aren't willing to use it to inform your decisions? And if this is your business, why not make sure you know the nuances of different terminal illnesses as they arise? The things my father was displaying were part and parcel to the end of life for his specific, rare disease. Furthermore, Kate reduced his meds from numerous to just 1 mg of Dilaudid. That was it to combat suffering at the end-stage of painful bone cancer. He wasn't sleeping, he had anxiety, and she gave him nothing to bring comfort in those areas until we brought it up. Otherwise, they did not budge, and for an agonizing two days, instead of focusing on my forever goodbye to my father, I instead worried that they would send him home with no adequate relief as he began to deteriorate before my eyes. After those two days, they started treating him effectively so he could be at peace. When all was said and done, despite their assertions that he was not near enough to death to be there, he passed just three days later. My last days with my father were marred by unnecessary worry and fear, as if there wasn't enough of that already. It was highly unprofessional and a gross negligence of what they claim to do. Despite the incompetence of the people giving the orders, the staff enacting them were kind and compassionate, and ultimately, and luckily, they were the ones who had face time with my father and eased him out of his pain. read more

Absolutely DISGUSTING people work for this disgusting company! When my grandma died, they STOLE her cash and her cell phone. So if you want your loved ones to be treated with respect and dignity, please take them to any other hospice but this one! When I came to pick up her belongings, they just told me they were missing and to call Amanda Holbein, who never answered and refused to call me back until Luis (one of my grandma's nurses who was amazing) called to check in on me a couple months later and he was able to convince Amanda to finally call me back. First she lied and said my brother picked up her belongings so that's why they weren't there. I reminded her that I picked up her belongings because my brother was in Peru, so she then said my grandma didn't have any cash (even though I had counted the $326 cash that she had in her purse) and her phone (that they gave me paperwork saying they had), had just disappeared somehow. When I asked her what they were going to do to make it right, and I'm so glad I recorded this conversation because I am still in shock and cannot believe she actually said this, Amanda said, "What do you mean? It's not like the patient is going to need her phone anyway." WTF?! When I told her that was the most insensitive thing she could possibly say because as I was cleaning out my dead grandma's apartment, the police were banging on the door for wellness checks because I couldn't contact any of her friends to let them know she passed because all of her numbers were in her phone, Amanda started CRYING and said she wasn't being insensitive because her parents had passed too. WHAT?! She eventually agreed to look into at least reimbursing me for the cost of the phone, and I never heard back from her again. Not only is the fact that people at their facility stole my grandma's things absolutely disgusting, but the way it was handled by Amanda was even more repulsive. Do yourself a favor and take your loved ones somewhere else so they can actually die with dignity and respect and not have them and their belongings treated as just "things" to get rid of and not care about! Edited to add some of the other issues I forgot to mention because I was so made about the thieving POS's. Some of her caretakers were absolutely amazing and she loved them, but the whole thing was kind of a shit show, with people not showing up when they said they would, not ordering her medications or diapers when they said they would, being very difficult to get ahold of, never having her correct information. My grandma said she went with them because she heard good things from a friend of hers, but that she regretted going with them because she was so disappointed in her care. My grandma was always a very independent woman so autonomy was very important to her at the end, but they would never, no matter how many times we told them, call her to talk to her about her care. She was on hospice for a year and every single phone call that entire year came to me. Every single time they would call me I would tell them I live out of state and they need to call her and every time they would say they'd make a note of it, but no one ever did. Every time they came to see her, she would tell them to call her because I live out of state and she would like to know what's going on in her own life, they would say they'd make a note of it, but they never did. For an entire year, every single phone call came to me and that really pissed her off and also made her feel really guilty for them always bothering me and I wasn't able to assuage that guilt at all. At the end of her life, she shouldn't have had to worry about me getting constant phone calls at work, that should be the last thing on her mind. read more

My husband was rushed in there I was distrate and did not have my glasses the women that came in my room made me sign without reading saying they would get my husband better they gave him 14 shots of morphine 4 of dilated and TY old me they wouldn't stop told me to leave facility and go home he'd be dead by morning I called a ambulance had him taken to hospital and the doctors said it was over kill there words it took him about 5 days to come off meds and then when he got better he could eat walk and talk and go to rehab bad mistake between doctors suggesting it and when he did not need hospice this place is a death trap with no regard I also had a room with a windows I could see the removal team taking people out downstairs from his room what a miss get them in get them out next victim all-out making money asap read more

If could give it a zero I would. I was sent there by mistake by a Dr. at Summerlin Hospital. In any case I was left in a dark a depressing room & I was not given my medication as needed. Luckily I was removed by an ambulance service & sent back to the hospital. Even the people in the ambulance agree that is a crappy place one of the worst that they know of. read more

This place is wonderful, the staff especially on the second floor are like family. We can't name everyone because there are too many to name- from administrators to caregivers, to med techs. Med techs and caregivers have been god sent to our family but most importantly to my mother. This place has been a blessing. We got to decorate the room to make my mom feel at home. They are welcoming to our family visiting as needed with our schedules which is very helpful. They had plenty of activities and things for guests here. The quality of care is outstanding, this location is clean and cozy. read more

Had to take both my parents here first my mom the a few years later my dad they treat your family with love and kindness and you will feel a sense of of peace. Put your trust in them I promise it's the only place to choose. When my dad was at that point we brought him home from the rehab that he was in and they didn't tell us. We had a choice of where to pick so we use the rehab hospice and it was a nightmare and my father declined even faster than he should've so I fired them when I contacted Nathen Adelson. They assessed him in less than two hours came to the house, brought him to the facility bathed him did everything you're supposed to for the patient and he was very comfortable and peaceful and that is all you can ask for. read more

POINT ONE-My brother recently and quickly died at your hospice. Please dont recommend funeral places that have had trouble with the Nevada Funeral Board-like McDermotts. You should check the Funeral Board to make sure places are not under investigation, or just give patients/families the State's website. Patients/relatives-be warned -check also. POINT TWO: This is a very nice place and accommodations for family/patients are good.There is an in-house eatery, inexpensive and very good. Staff was nice. POINT THREE-FYI-I called your advocate numerous times since his death on July12th. No response, so here is my complaint/review. It was not right that while my brother's advocates-me/his sister, and his best friend, were in a meeting finally called by the Valley's medical staff. Your representative asked a very ill patient, my brother, who had been on oxygen for 45 days and had some memory issues, facing death and scared, to sign the-transfer to hospice documents. So not right. The hospital's only interest was to get him out of that room/bed and transferred after finding no other place would take him. No acute care, no rehab-no chances. Did my brother understand what he was signing? He wanted out, he wanted rehab-but no one/no place would give him a real chance. His insurance rejected requests. This is wrong on so many levels. His so called patient advocate was in the meeting too.) My brother did not have a chance to finish out his life-no matter how brief it was to be, or how sick he was. He was up and laughing until "the van" arrived. Also, patients who are half drugged from meds or due to anxiety, should they be asked if they want more drugs? Dont ask sick patients who are psychologically/medically impaired to sign your legal documents without their advocates present, nor if a semi-conscious patient wants more drugs-whatever type. Relatives/advocates need to be consulted, especially if they have legal standing. Valley Hospital refused to honor my POA/Durable, refused to provide his records to me, and his DR. S, was a miserable and rude person-if you can even call him that. We were so filled with grief and it all happened so fast, we did not have time to think. I/We have to live with that. Be careful relatives. I am sorry to have failed my brother in so many ways. Take heed so you do not have to feel this way. I am sure the medical community doesnt even remember his name-he is just a statistic they all got off their books. Sorry bro. read more

My mother passed in Oct of 2024. The last few months prior to her passing was difficult since her dementia was getting worse by the day. More than once the nurses "talked me down off the cliff." We truly appreciated all their support!. I would like to thank Tracy our RN, Chuck our LPN, Helena our CNA, and especially Detra CNA. My mother and Detra hit it off, and I could hear them laughing while she was getting her care. That in its self was heart lifting! I would also like to thank the Chaplin Molly for sitting with mom and listening to her life story, and Fr Louis from ST Anthony's for coming and fulfilling my mother last wish of having a priest come to pray over her. One visit, 4 month wait to have a blood draw done on site. Unresponsive to my call requesting an alternate antibiotic for a nagging eye infection that has been going in for a year. Declined to authorize FDA approved blood test for colon cancer. Seems as if they are there to document the physical decline of a once healthy senior. This is not a review I ever thought I would have to write. And after reading the reviews of so many other Yelpers and Elites, it's sad to see how many others have been in the same situation as myself. My mother was diagnosed with MMMT cancer in early 2012. She went through chemotherapy and was eventually in remission for 9 years after that, which we are so thankful for as most patients with this type of cancer don't make it past 5 years. In November 2021, she was rediagnosed with a recurrence of the same cancer. We got her an incredible doctor which we are so thankful to for helping manage her pain, and my dad took the most incredible care of her for the last 8 months, but unfortunately, she was admitted to the ER about two weeks ago, and after running tests and speaking with her doctor, we were told her liver was failing, her body could no longer tolerate chemotherapy, and her cancer was "blooming" inside her. We were given the devastating news that she had about two weeks left. The hospital connected us with Nathan Adelson Hospice. The representative we met with was incredibly kind, very professional. They wanted us to take her to the facility, but after discussing as a family, we wanted to bring her home, so family and friends could come to visit her in her last days and say their goodbyes. And she could live out her final days in the comfort of the home that she loved so much. The hospice arrived before we brought my mom home and set up her bed in my parents bedroom. They also transported her from the hospital to home and did so in such care and comfort. The hospice was truly so helpful. Every staff member we interacted with was kind, soft spoken, and understanding. My dad had been caring for her for the past 8 months, and they helped equip him as well as the rest of us to give her medication to continue to make her comfortable in her remaining days. They provided a big notebook with lots of information, and a 24/7 telephone line to contact if we had any questions. A chaplain came, social worker, and nurses as well. Everyone was helpful and answered all our questions. One of the nurses also gave some helpful advice in terms of getting her a memory foam topper for her bed to help make her more comfortable, as well as businesses to contact for cremation services. One of the nurses in particular was so empathetic. She asked my sister how long my dad and mom had been married. We told her 47 years in June, and she honestly looked as if she was going to cry. It's comforting to know that the people that work for Nathan Adelson Hospice truly care about the patients and the loved ones grieving and going through the unimaginable. My mother passed Sunday, May 29, 2022 and I will spend the rest of my days on this earth missing her. But in her honor, I want to thank those like Nathan Adelson Hospice who were there to help make this process less stressful for myself and my family, as I know that is what she would want me to do. read more

My experience with hospice has been limited to family until an older friend was placed here following an illness. He was only here a few days before passing but thankfully I was able to make it in for a visit, and I could see how comfortable they made him for his last days. The location itself is beautiful and rooms are fairly large, it's a small and intimate facility with about 20 beds. I am thankful that he was able to get a space at this facility specifically, as it was also close enough for older friends and family to be able to come see him one last time. Also, I really like how there is outdoor space in the patios and courtyard, both for patients to get outside and for visitors to have private areas to speak. Visitors are also able to come by at any time. But of course the staff here make the biggest impact. It takes a special kind of person to work in hospice, but the ones here in particular were so caring, supportive, and helpful. They made sure to help me reach Steve when a previous visitor had turned off the phone ringer in his room, and were helpful at sharing and keeping private his information as requested. He was such a social person and they were happy to listen to his jokes and stories while making him comfortable. Everyone should be able to have as positive an experience as possible at the end of life, and I really think they try their best to provide that at Adelson. read more

My sister is a resident here and I have visited her twice, as we live out of state. Everytime we have picked her up we are met by friendly and caring staff. The staff (nurse) Joy had to be called weekly to ensure she would be coming out to do her weekly home visit. If not, she would have totally forgotten, more than once. When she came out, all she wanted to know was how my mother's health was and if it was deteriorating or getting better. Joy would just fixate on the negative things and not try and look towards the positive. There were even times when she told me how to exacerbate problems to make them worse and help her along so that she could "end" her struggles because it "becomes to much for them and yourselves to bear" & that this is what Nathan Adelson is about, helping families so they don't have to suffer. This is what really made me upset... That and the fact that a few days later, when my mom started feeling better, she once again eluded to the fact that they were no longer going to be offering care because my m9m was doing "OK" and they needed her to be ill, sick, or "dead" at this juncture of 3 months. What kind of care facility tells you this! So, they terminated our care with them without any warning, and we had to find care quickly elsewhere. We tried calling their management team and the supervisory team that enrolled us into Nathan Adelson but have yet to hear back from them. We also found it funny that they kicked us out right at our 3 month period when we were due for our 1 week respite. A respite in which they were not ready to take and handle her. Nathan Adelson prides itself on being the best , but from experiencing them first hand left me knowing they have alot to work on in certain staff positions. Because all it takes is just a few bad apples to spoil the bunch. read more

I had a very wrong experience with one of the patient services representatives. She acted like a pushy salesman while my mom was dying. On Tuesday April 16, my mom's Dr and I decided to start hospice care the next day. We agreed that we would leave her at Centennial hills hospital due to her mostly likely not making the trip and I didn't want to move her. My mom's case worker has Nathan Adelson reach out to me via phone that day and I declined services due to not wanting her to be moved. The next day, Wednesday the 17th, Bonnie Keeler came into her room. She stayed she knew I had met with someone yesterday and was coming to arrange everything. I kindly told her we already had arrangements in place and wouldn't be using Nathan Adelson because I didn't want her moved. She agreed it didn't look like my mom would make it being moved but still persisted to offer her services. I again declined and thanked her. She left her card in case I changed my mind. Ten mins later she comes in with my nurse holding something saying they wanted to try it on my mom to see if she would make it for transportation! I said no thank you we aren't moving her. She then tried to say well we could just try and I said you're not trying anything arrangements have been made. She then continued to argue about it until I said it a very low and stern voice I've already made arrangements, she's staying where she is, I've made enough decisions this week I'm not changing my mind or making others please leave. The nurse even apologized and said I told her we weren't moving her I'm so sorry. My mom passed away the hours later. This behavior was like a pushy salesman. She didn't care about my mom, she didn't care about me or my feelings or decisions. She didn't care that she was interfering and taking up my precious time during my mom's final hours. She cared about herself getting whatever commission she gets. We used Nathan Adelson when my mother in law passed and I felt they were so nice but this lady put a bad taste in my mouth. I sincerely hope someone will reach out to her and make her understand NO MEANS NO. Being persistent on someone's deathbed is not okay in any way shape or form. read more

This applies not only to the nurses on staff, but includes the receptionists and the people who work in the kitchen. They deeply care, are compassionate and sincere. They injected my husband while I was not there could not talk with him and of course last injection was in front of me so I still believe they killed him before I could be by his side over 4 years ago and the their representative misinformed me while he was in hospital saying he would go to palliative care and they put him in Hospice and they did not want to give him oatmeal his last morning got him very upset he called me by the time I got there they did give it to him and that night I called at 10:30 pm I felt something was wrong and said nurse would call me back that is when they injected with the first fatal drug she never called me and next morning they called and said he would not be able to talk with me as I know they shut him up..... I will NEVER forget this ! I did do a survey which I received a call of an apology from upper management... too late ... just be aware do not leave your Love one alone there as I regret I did ... read more

I made the BEST choice for my loved ones last days. The support of the administrative people to the nurses and Chaplain "Joe" were comforting. My loved one was cared for with dignity and respect and the entire staff was there to listen to me no matter how long it took. People need to fully understand what hospice is truly about, it's hard to accept as their loved one but Nathan Adelson has been doing this for decades and they make your loved one and YOU their top priority . My mom (Inace K) was kicked out of NAH because she didn't die fast enough... NAH is a for profit company that only cares about money, not at all like their TV commercials. If you live past the time when Medicare is still at the higher reimbursement, they will kick you out. She passed away about 90 days after she was dropped. read more

After troubles with the traditional medical system, and a mishap that caused his demise, The Nathan Adelson team were the best care takers my father has ever had.
