I have been going to Nate's Green Garage for a couple years now. Nate serviced my 2004 Honda Civic and my 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid. He knows his stuff and is always very straightforward. He found issues during the inspection that another shop managed to miss. He even helped me get the door code for my car free of charge. If you want an honest mechanic that know's what he's doing, Nate's the guy. read more

Nathan is the man!!! Fixed my car and got me out of there in 5 minutes. Didn't even charge me!!! Glad to have a trustworthy mechanic that I can rely on. read more

While I live around the corner from one of my favorite shops with long-time terrific service, their estimate on work I needed done on a used 1997 Toyota Camry (received in 2008) after 7 years of my driving it without any servicing needed except for oil changes, was just too high -- higher than average rates on the Net by quite a bit. ... I decided to try Nate's Green Garage after reading Yelp reviews, and his estimates for the work recommended to keep the car in good shape was HALF the estimated cost of my regular shop while using Toyota parts. Nate explained all the costs, what he would use, what work was more urgent than others, and I just liked the way he handled everything. ... I had all the work done that had been also recommended by the other shop, and this was over two years ago. The car has been humming along since then, but I'll bring it in soon for a checkup. Highly recommended. read more

Nate's Green Garage combines old school customer service/satisfaction with new school automotive expertise. Electric, gas, diesel, you name it... Nate's Green garage is a reliable, timely, and affordable option for all of your automotive repairs. My personal experience with Nate is around repairing my old work trucks. I had an '89 Nissan Hardbody and now drive an '89 Toyota Hilux. Nate was/has been extremely insightful, hard working, attentive and affordably priced in the repair and restoration of both of these older vehicles into high performing work trucks. Do yourself a favor and take your car in to Nate's Green Garage for your next automotive service, they are a one of a kind shop! read more

Brought my 2001 Toyota corolla in with a mystery ignition problem. Not only did Nathan find the problem within a day (over the weekend, no less), but he had it fixed within 24 hours and gave me a great deal on the work. Nate is truly a trustworthy, effective, and friendly mechanic, and for that reason, I would recommend Nate's Green Garage to ANYONE! read more

I had a great first experience at Nate's. I'm from SoCal so I wanted to make sure I located a trustworthy mechanic. My car is definitely important so I'm very pleased with the service. Nate is knowledgeable, honest, and kind. read more

Had a minor seepage of oil and wanted to get a trustworthy expert opinion of what I should do. Showed the problem to nate and he gave me some sound advice and quoted a price for the repairs. Said I didn't need to get the issue resolved immediately as it wasn't a leak. Recommended I just check it during my next regular maintenance. I will be going to them with my car in the future. read more

Nathan is the man. Full care for EVs and all hybrids and really any Japanese car as well. Keeps all my rides running well past the 100k mark. Do not waste money on dealer maintenance on your hybrid, Nathan is better and much more affordable. I trust him fully based on years of experience. read more

Nathan is awesome! I went to Nate's green garage for a repair of my Prius after some idiot stole the catalytic converter. Nathan went out of his way to help me work with my insurance company and get the repairs done as soon as possible. I am often wary about auto shops trying to rip me off or treat me like I am dumb because I am a woman. I trust Nathan to do a great job for a fair price and explain stuff fully. read more

Nate is really awesome, all the good reviews are for a reason! He is extremely knowledgeable, fair and honest. Everything anyone would want in a mechanic. Highly recommend! read more

Nathan just saved us $1500. Our check engine light came on, so we called him for an appointment. Not only did Nathan fit us in quickly into an otherwise packed schedule, but when he ran the diagnostics on the car he discovered that we were likely still under warranty for the malfunction that he detected. He then proceeded to spend half an hour of his time looking up the exact details of the warranty coverage for us to make sure we were covered, even going so far as to call the Toyota dealership to verify our coverage for us. He was right, in the end; we were still covered, and after making sure we were set and knew what to do, he sent us on our way -- at no charge -- to get the work done at the dealership. If he had just done it for us, we wouldn't have been the wiser, and it would have cost $1500. As it is...he's made a customer for life. Classy, classy guy. He deserves ten stars! read more

I bought a used 2006 Prius and Nathan has been great with routine maintenance and weird Prius-specific problems. It was always good to know that he had seen the issue before and knew the right way to fix it. Now that I'm leaving town, I'll be on the hunt for another Prius expert on the East Coast. read more

Just walked into this place. After possibly screwing my own project of changing my timing belt, I decided to ask a professional. Walked in and Nathan took time to talk me through my possible problems and solutions. Extremely knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. Will definitely be coming back for future auto work. Thanks Nathan! read more

I brought my Honda Accord (not a hybrid here) a while back when my car wouldn't start. Nate ran some tests and determined the battery needed to be changed and informed me of my options and the best one for me (which was the cheapest option). He also gave the engine a look over to make sure everything was in good working condition. Nate is trustworthy (this is especially important for me as a female who doesn't know a ton of knowledge about cars and has been taken advantage of at other places) and provides excellent service. I have been recommending him to all my friends! read more

Nate is awesome. Very kind, always listens to my concerns, and addresses any issues with the car.

Nate was our mechanic for years while we lived in town. And i've never had "a mechanic" before as it always used to be that I'd take our cars to whichever shop had the best coupons so calling him my mechanic is a compliment. We had both a Prius (it was Berkeley afterall) and a Hyundai. I came to trust and appreciate his work and the way Nate runs his business. I echo all the other 5-star comments posted thus far. This is a family owned small business that is ethical and does quality work. You should definitely take your car here read more

I used Nate for the first time based on his Yelp reviews and will now be a loyal customer! Nate was very honest after doing a diagnostic on my car and told me straight out that it was a better option to not repair it. He took the time to explain what was wrong in a very understandable way, but didn't try to string me along with doing smaller repairs as the car ultimately wasn't worth repairing. Diagnostic rates were very reasonable and I feel better knowing I had all the information to make a smart decision. read more

Five stars all the way and I have an anecdote to prove it. My Honda Insight broke down on a Saturday night off hwy 17 just outside of Los Gatos. My tow truck finally arrived around 8pm, and I googled to find Nate's, the closest, good sounding hybrid mechanic. Tow truck driver had to drop the car in front of Nate's gate, and I left a message letting Nate know it was there (late Saturday night). Monday rolls around and I get Nate on the phone and he's very accommodating and friendly, and agrees to check out the vehicle that day. I live in Sacramento, but even though the vehicle was non-operational (could barely drive it two blocks), and I didn't want to sink the $$ into a new battery, after diagnosing this and charging a resonable hour's rate, on Monday Nate himself parked the vehicle on the street outside his shop, for me to come pick up. I was unable to come get it that night, so the vehicle was still in a metered spot the next morning (Tuesday). I called Tuesday morning from Sacramento to explain that I would be there asap to pick up the vehicle and Nate said no problem I'VE PUT SOME MONEY INTO THE METER TO MAKE SURE IT WON'T GET A TICKET. Seriously, how is that for customer service? Nate is an absolute gem of a man. I eventually got to Berkeley and dealt with the car, but knowing it was looked after so as not to cause me more tickets/towing/hassle, was a great favor. Best mechanic service I've ever received hands down. read more

Nate and his dad Charlie are the best.... I have been in the auto parts business for over 10 years, and deal with all the shops up and down San Pablo ave. Nate and Charlie run a very very honest shop. You can't find that these days. Not to mention their labor rate is lower than any other shop in the area. Charlie and Nate bring a wealth of automotive knowledge to the table, weather its electric cars or gas powered vehicles. In my years of being in the auto industry I have never been able to recommend a shop...Until I met Nate at Nate's Green Garage. Now without a doubt I will recommend this shop to anyone who asks where to bring their car. If you do not think there are any honest mechanics left, stop by Nate's Green Garage... This shop will not disappoint you. read more

I came into get my 2008 Toyota Prius looked at after the dealerships could not figure out. My car was having a fuel tank issue where it was accepting less and less gasoline every time I filled up. It came to the point where it only held 5 of the 11 gallons. This was very frustrating because when you have a Prius you don't expect to fill up every 150 miles. Anyway, the dealers could not figure out the issue so I decided to go to a specialist, and that is exactly who Nate is. Nate figured out my issue no problem and was a true professional during the process, something that is very rare today. All in all, Nate is an honest mechanic that offers 5 star service. The labor rates are great and very reasonable. I also felt the waiting room was very nice. They had Peets coffee, and it actually tasted like coffee. It was not watered down like most places. I also liked the fact there was wifi. The wifi was fast and multiple users did not disrupt streaming videos, that is usually an issue for me in public places. I would highly recommend Nates green garage in the future for any car issues and had no hesitation in giving the shop 5 stars. read more

Nate is honest, caring, and professional. I appreciate his communication with me about my car, you can tell he really wants the best for you and your car. read more

Nate & his team have serviced two different Priuses for me in the past few years -- communication has always been excellent, and they were able to fix other shops' errors... even fixed a dashboard rattle that eluded another highly rated Prius specialist in the east bay. Pricing seems very competitive & fair, given the professionalism. I couldn't really ask for more from Nate & his team, or any mechanic. Cheers- read more

Nathan is nothing short of amazing! He is very knowledgable, thorough, honest and fair. I completely trust him to properly diagnose my car's issues and to give me a fair and honest reapir plan. He has gotten me out of a car breakdown drama more than once and hes always been dead on with his recommendations. It's like finding gold when you finally find a good, fair, and trusted mechanic. Nate is officially our mechanic forever. He's honest, helpful, and a true small business owner. He answers his own calls, speaks with you directly, and is wonderful to work with. Our clutch gave out, and he gave us an extremely competitive rate, and did an exceptional job. For small issues (broken side view mirror, etc.) we do it ourselves, but for all else, we go to Nate's. read more

I have trusted Nate to take care of my car for a few years now, and have been extremely satisfied with the result. In my experience he listens carefully, explains clearly, and genuinely enjoys what he does. He is friendly and willing to spend time solving whatever thorny automotive problem my old Honda presents. He's been great at troubleshooting what's currently wrong and recommending what preventive work should be done to keep me out of trouble. He's actually talked me out of a few repairs that didn't make sense at the time, and discovered a different issue that vastly improved my drive quality and mileage. I feel like I'm really getting my money's worth at Nate's -- can't say enough good things about his shop. Thanks, Nate! read more

Nate's Green Garage is one of the absolute best places to take your vehicle for service, repair and advice Hands Down! I've known Nathan since I was five years old. Nathan is a great guy and has long been a good friend. That being said, my opinion is most assuredly bias. In light of this admission, let me just state facts. -Nathan's father has been working on cars for near half a century, he's an ACE MECHANIC. -when I was 4, playing with Link'n Logs, Nathan was taking lug nut off cars with an air wrench. - When we were six,I had hot wheels, he was operating remote control cars! -When we were 8, I had a quaint collection of tools, Nathan had a full rolling chest of tools and equipment. -When we were 16, I had a bicycle, Nathan had a 1970 some odd Chevy Nova, that he raced and worked on him self. -When we we're 18, my family car blew its engine, no problem, with Nathan calling the shots and the both of us wrenching, we had that car back on the road in no time. -In college I researched exuberant socializing and low level alcoholism, Nathan studied Mechanical Engineering and began working toward building electric cars. -As young adults I found a job working for someone else, Nathan saved up and opened his own business. I think you get my point. Nathan knows cars inside and out, as he's been doing this his entire life. Nate's Green Garage is a prime example of the "American Dream". Family business, run by hard working knowledgeable folks. Nathan will take excellent care of you and you can rest assured, as you pay the bill, every single penny was well spent. support your locals! Nate is the man! He helped our Ford Escape Hybrid pass the CA smog inspection by finding out what was the problem with our evap system causing a check engine light to turn on. It wasn't easy (took three visits!) but eventually he found it and fixed it! Nate was always nice, patient, explaining all the options, and fairly priced. He also did work on our brakes and shocks. I'll come back here as long as I stay In Berkeley! read more

So, I brought my Prius to Nathan after a very frustrating experience with another, more "boutique" garage in Berkeley, and I'm so glad I did. Nathan actually listened to what I had to say and didn't talk down to me. For me, this is a big deal. I'm really, really tired of being given the "dumb woman treatment" by mechanics and other technically inclined types, and even the slightest whiff of condescension raises my hackles and sends me running for the door. I got none of that from Nathan, just straight talk. He advised me on what needed to be done, and was scrupulously ethical all along the way. He even saved me money--it turned out one of the problems was covered by warranty, and after his diagnosis I was able to take my car to the dealer and have that problem dealt with for free! He kept me fully informed all along the way about how long things were going to take and what kind of costs I was looking at. I've finally found my mechanic! read more
