Margaretha Maimone, the director of Ridotto, created a group that attracts classical performers to…read morethis part of town... Ridotto offers eight concerts in two subscription series, performed in the stylish Parish Hall of Huntington's Old First Church. We read in the newspaper of the program presented last night: "Searching for Chopin". It was a collection of his best work played in the piano by Robyn Carmichael, a Huntington native but world renounced piano player, along with readings and narratives of Chopin by Witold Kolankowski. The program included "Chopin as improvisor', "Early promise in Vienna", "Yearning for Poland", "Chopin in Paris", "Bellini and Chopin", "Defiance and Heroism", and "Home at Nohant". For $20 (less if you are a member or get a subscription), you get a Carnegie style performance and quality right here in Huntington. The theater is small but big enough for the performance. Ample parking at the church lot or in the City Hall parking lot across the street. I was very impressed with it and my expectation level was blown off through the roof. For a couple of hours you are taken into another world with music and emotion. Seriously, I was moved to tears at one time during the performance! Surprisingly, the theater has great acoustics and it was superb! The reason I am writing this review is because it was a little upsetting to see that most of the people were older and did not see much of a younger crowd... which could lead to the disappearing of groups like these. We need to support local talent and performers as well as local cultural groups that take the time to provide us with entertainment like no other. Go to the ridotto site for more information. There is only one performance left in the 08-09 season but looking forward to the new season in the fall.

Last night was my first time at The Argyle Theatre and we watched The Prince of Egypt. I've passed…read moreby for years and always wondered about the quality of their productions. So my husband surprised me with tickets because he knows how much I love Broadway shows. Some of the standouts of the night were- the singing and the use of the screens. The actors & vocalist did a great job, really no weak links, they were clear, they projected all the way up to the balcony, and they carried a strong stage presence. The stage was set up in a specific way for the entire show but the screens helped to enhance the scenes by projecting different images to suggest a change in setting, making it a lot more interesting to watch. Some songs resonated more than others, solely because of the weight of the message they possessed. Overall, very talented artists on Long Island that we enjoyed watching use their gifts to bring joy to others. It didn't have to be perfect to be of great substance. I will note that they loosely interpret biblical events throughout the show, especially toward the end, so a few scenes might make you go huh, but as artists, they truly made it their own. It's nice to offer Broadway-like shows close to home, and to support the arts within our communities.

Saw the very last showing for the Annie musical for 2025 with my youngest son and it was such a great talented cast, with great scenic and live orchestra! The remodel of the space was done to keep the theater looking like it's always did just cleaner and more comfortable. Although I thought it was a little weird that they ran out of salty snacks at the bar for a full house performance, but regardless the bartenders were so friendly and warm! Will definitely be back to see more shows here!

We performed there on 8/30/25. We are the Soul Jam Revue. The venue is full of that same charm that was there back in the 60's, 70's and on. I walked around taking in the movie shadows boxes (micky mouse) and this brought back so many memories! The seating there is all brand new, comfortable and spacious! I highly recommend getting there for a show in the future. I can't wait to see when they put up the new marquee!

Very disappointing experience performing at this theater…read more Professional musician with decades of experience performing in theaters and venues throughout the region, and this was one of the more difficult venue experiences I've encountered. The theater crew themselves were kind and helpful. Unfortunately, my experience with the talent buyer/manager responsible for our engagement was very different. There were repeated restrictions and complications involving our production, crew member access, load-in, food, and basic hospitality. Our production team members were initially denied access to the theater despite being part of our band's crew. We were told that food was not permitted backstage or in the auditorium, so we ate elsewhere, only to see staff eating pizza in those same areas. Water was supposed to be provided, but we had to specifically ask for it and received three bottles for the 6 hour day. To make matters worse, payment was supposed to arrive within 7-10 days. Two weeks later, the check had still not arrived, and I learned that it had only been mailed three days earlier. The crew were great, and the visuals they provided for our show were actually very good. My concerns are specifically with the management of the engagement and the overall treatment of the performers. Professional performers deserve clear communication, reasonable accommodation, and timely payment. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here. Based on this experience, I would be very hesitant to work with this theater again.

My son had played piano since he was five, but he completely quit after growing disheartened by a lack of inspiration and empathy from his previous piano teacher in Brooklyn. He tentatively agreed to try drums, and now he absolutely LOVES it. He literally runs from the bus to his lesson each week. Chris has not only taught him the fundamentals but has also encouraged him to bring his favorite music into their sessions. Chris is caring, patient, and a musical force himself. I love sneaking in to observe the two of them at work--it's pure joy to witness. We are so grateful.

COS is unique from other orchestra in terms of size, atmosphere, and music programs. It is a warm and small orchestra, which means each musician plays a big role making harmony and each musician is heard from the audience. Conductors are genuinely nice and faculties are always welcoming. Atmosphere is so great. People are very friendly and everyone wants to help you to become a better musician. I also took chamber music program and played with other instrument players. It was so fun and it is definitely a different vibe from orchestra. I always loved music and was looking for orchestra I could enjoy and grow as a happier musician. When I found COS, I truly had many great times there. As I was a high school student, it not only helped me to become a happier musician, but also helped me to become a stronger person. COS is still part of me now and I wish I was still there!
