Our camping club is pretty angry right now being stiffed for 5 extra sites for 4 days each. When we asked for them to be released they set them as no show and charged us anyway. Some highway noise can be heard from I-94, but it not disturbing due to natural fencing and water features in the fishing pond and swimming area.

The staff has gotten so much better the last couple years. They have more people that care and genuinely want you to have a great experience. Brandy, her husband Rob, and Jed are my favorite people at the park! They know you by name, are helpful, fun, and just good people. They make the park inviting. They put in a new splash pad, have made a lot of nice improvements, and yes, the bathrooms were really clean this time :). It's nice to see things improving and some of the staff staying year after year. I hope this company will continue to make this an inviting, clean, and fun place. And Jed, if you see this, you're definitely the king of candy bar bingo!!!

Rockey's is the very definition of "family campground." It's a place where people bring their kids…read moreand pets to relax, play in the water, and sit by the campfire. Lots of, possibly the majority of, people here are on seasonal sites, and some make these these quite homey, with screened porches, hedges, light displays and statuary. Campers are packed pretty tightly together, but if you came here you probably weren't looking for solitude. Though there were a lot of people here, it was quiet overall. The owners were very pleasant and helpful. Other campers were pretty friendly too. The firewood we got was dry and easy to burn. We appreciated the cleanliness. The grounds were well maintained, and bathrooms and showers were kept very clean. Plenty of hot water in the showers, though water pressure gets weak if more than one person is showering at the same time. If you don't feel like walking all the way to the modern bathhouse, there are outhouses scattered through the campground, though I'd recommend just walking to the bathhouse. Rockey's is situated on a chain of small lakes, and there are some decent fish to be found in these. There's a concrete boat launch, as well as fishing boats and canoes for rent. When I was unloading my kayak by the boat launch, one of the owners said it was no problem for me to leave it on the lawn by the launch, and that I could safely leave all my gear by it with no worries. He as right. We were tent camping, which I think few people do there, and this did present some inconveniences. Some of the sites have few trees...like ours, and a little protection from the sun would have been nice. A lack of trees also left us with no place to string up our clothesline. There are streetlights along the campground lanes, which are handy for walking to the bathhouse after dark, but make your tent very bright at night. Rockey's doesn't cater to tenters, but some do come there, and for them it will be less than ideal. But for others it should be more than satisfactory,

I think the most mileage you could do if you loop around…read morethe entire place is less than 3 miles, but it is a nice changing scenery (swamps, hardwood forests, some pines, Lake Thompson, a creek and small hills all over the place. Every now and then in your camping travels you will make reservations somewhere just because it's…read morein a convenient location on your route and end up stumbling upon a true gem. That's what happened to us with Happy Acres! Originally we were scheduled to stay for one night but at the last minute had to change to four and the staff was wonderful about accommodating our request. Check in was a breeze with confirmation emails, informative texts leading up to our arrival and when we finally got there our registration packet was waiting for us by the office door. Our site (#71) was super easy to get to and was a pull through which was mostly level for our 33' trailer. I spoke with two staff members; one over the phone when I had to change my reservation (Matt?) and another (Sidney?) when I stopped by their very cute camp store to buy a couple of shirts and they were both extremely pleasant and polite. The grounds are beautifully maintained and there is also a pool and dog park on site. The only negative we found was the very loud, ever present road noise. Happy Acres is right alongside highway 69 which makes it super convenient to access but noisy. Luckily we were running out AC or fans every night which mostly drowned it out. We work remotely from our camper and both our Verizon and TMobile signals were very strong. However TMobile was the speed test winner regularly showing d/l speeds of 200+ mbps. We come to the Midwest every year or two and Happy Acres will definitely be on our list of campgrounds to revisit. We heard that they are expanding the # of campsites towards the back of their property and if they are full hookup we will be sure to try to book one of those. Thanks Happy Acres!!!

We have 2 commander 200's and a few minutes after we started on the trails, our atv's could NOT handle these trails. These are NOT beginner trails, not even intermediate. I broke a few parts off my bike, and my mother tipped her bike over twice. The only place we had fun at was the playground in the back which is a big sand/gravel pit but it was more of a mud pit since it rained the day before and we did enjoy getting completely filthy. unfortunately, we won't be returning any time within the next few years.

I finally visited Pokagon State Park for the first time. After hearing my mom talk about a…read morechildhood visit she had (including the Toboggan run) for decades, we made the three hour trek north from Indy for a cozy weekend of staying at the lodge, hiking on the trails, visiting the nature center, etc. The overall park and setting was peaceful. The Tobaggan run definitely makes them stand out from other Indiana state parks as one of the more winter-friendly destinations. It was certainly hopping during our chilly January visit. Given the park's popularity, I was surprised at how much TLC the inn could use. The nature center is fairly simple but worth a visit. They have a trail that runs out the back door and easy parking. You'll also find Nordic skiing trails, homes along the lake and a simple restaurant at the inn. The toboggan run was a hit with our four year old. I cheered overhead with our two year old and I have to say that watching is quite enjoyable as well
