I just spoke with the head Pastor, and my family is "welcomed to use the facilities," but they do not support my civil marriage rights. I wonder how he would explain that to our 10 year old child, and how such a stance would prevent him from accessing health care within our family? How upsetting! I encourage everyone camping there to use your privilege and please consider raising this issue. Very unfortunate!

The campground initially offered family-friendly activities like hayrides and crafts.. these dwindled to events that included only our children and the owners' grandchildren, often overshadowed by drunken behavior unsuitable for kids. By the second season, that sense of community soured when the owners' friends/family began uninvited weekend parties on our campsite. Groups would show up, using our firewood and partying late into the night while our kids struggled to sleep, often leaving only after we became assertive and telling them to leave so we could go to bed. This disregard for our family's needs, compounded by other unsettling issues made it clearly evident that Way Back is not a family friendly campground. Our campsite being littered with debris from a previous burned, condemned camper on our lot, promises of cleanup that went unfulfilled for 3 seasons. Obscene drunken adult behaviors in front of children that went unaddressed, only created a growing sense of disappointment. We also faced safety concerns, such as homeless individuals using drugs and living in the campgrounds. Convicted sexual offenders and known drug addicts in the park. Hostile fighting and commotion usually provoked by and instigated by the owners. A lingering presence of inappropriate adults around children at the park. Despite our initial rapport and giving the owners multiple chances to make improvements, issues only escalated, leading us to strongly advise against this campground.

They don't have security like they used to, games like they used to, family sports like they used to, friendly staff like they used to, helpful staff like they used to. The place isn't at all the place you used to go to for the price. Now it's like going to any other RESORT, high prices and a shit show.

Each had its merits, but the group vote for the favorite was the playground across from the volleyball and basketball courts. Some of the playgrounds had retro equipment, which we liked, but the seats were very low and sometimes squeaky. The climbers and bouncers were a hit and the young ones raced to be the first to try them. We even awarded special stickers to anyone in our group who visited all six playgrounds. Finding the geocache and hiking the trails, playing disc golf, doing archery---it was all a great time!

A bridge provides access to a little island with a beach, which also has nearby swings and picnic tables. A nice large shelter with more tables and a great playground with slides, swings, climbing structures, and towers is located near clean restroom facilities. We saw a number of boats out enjoying the water and folks doing some fishing. Camping sites are available, as is a dog beach.

They have a very sneaky way to double charge you if you have a group. They put your people on sites…read morenot reserved and do not release un reserved sites then charge you for the entire block . Our camping club is pretty angry right now being stiffed for 5 extra sites for 4 days each. When we asked for them to be released they set them as no show and charged us anyway. Now they can double dip on those sites.

There are much better campgrounds and trails to go to. The trails aren't marked very well. Lots of…read morebrush over the trails. Many walnut trees dropping walnut hulls larger than golf balls causing plenty of damage to vehicles and campers. (Based on the time of year you go, this is probably not an issue, but for the first weekend of October, it was.) The DNR is ridiculous here. Been to many parks in the past and haven't ever had an issue with them patrolling almost non stop. Someone I know paid for a camp site, but didn't show up, and the DNR had a problem with two vehicles parked on it. Even patrolling at 11pm when it was already quiet. Like the DNR guy had a fight with his wife and was taking it out on everyone at the campground. Just a lonely, miserable human. Would be great if he spent that energy tending to making the trails better. Parking at the camp store wasn't much better. Parking lot was packed as many of the campers couldn't have their vehicles on the sites as the walnuts were damaging them. If you have a stupid rule that there's only one vehicle per site, then add more parking lots, or do something about the walnut trees. I could understand if there was an issue with noise or fighting or something, but there wasn't. However, at a site behind ours, there were people laughing and talking loudly well after 11pm...clearly DNR didn't bother to go over to them and patrol that area. Also the DNR guy was driving entirely too fast in a park where there are tons of people and children running around and playing. Will post pics of some of the sites with walnut trees damaging vehicles.
