They have text messaging follow ups so you don't miss your cleanings, which is a HUGE plus. I'm terrible at keeping appointments but it's easy to see the reminders since they show up as texts. Furthermore, I had a really bad toothache and they were able to squeeze me into their schedule day of and got me in and out within two hours! Root Canals normally don't earn 5 stars, but the care from Pacific Dental saved me from a lot of sleepless nights from tooth pain.

I wouldn't send someone I hate here. Everything about my…read moreexperience here was uncomfortable, painful and a total nightmare. In hindsight, I wish I had stood up in the middle of my appointment and walked out. Calling to schedule, the receptionist was not warm and just told me to send my insurance and then they would call back to schedule, while lacking any kindness or professionalism. They called later, booked an appointment and then left a voicemail the day before, telling me call to confirm my appointment. I didn't have the time to do since I was working that whole day prior and am used to getting texts if confirmation is necessary. I didn't even get the voicemail until after my appointment. I book clients for my business and use online booking and it sends reminders so I don't have to call and bug people. Most people don't want phone calls these days, or to be required to have to call someone again. I made the appointment, so I'm going to show up. Just send a reminder in advance and paperwork, rather than waiting until the day of! As I was walking out the door the day of my appointment, I get a call and it's the receptionist, again with no professionalism, asking if I'm coming in. Yes. I made the appointment didn't I? I show up, she asks for my ID and insurance card and hands me a stack of papers to fill out. Didn't send them via email or in the mail ahead of time like every other doctor office in 2025 would. I frantically try to fill it out, but don't have my card to answer the questions because she didn't give it back. I get called back to get started while still trying to complete a bunch of papers and already so stressed out. There was no small talk, no welcoming, no getting to know this new patient or my need; just total awkwardness. After getting my X-rays, the doctor comes in, seems friendly enough, but again, no real connection or attempt to make me comfortable or get to know my dental history or why I'm there. I already have immense anxiety around going to a dentist and have experienced a ton of trauma this year and was clearly on edge and was just hoping it would all be over soon. After the assistant attempted to hand me a pair of dirty and greasy looking sunglasses, I declined and put on my own and was still somehow blinded by their light, with no apology or inquiry of my comfort level. They clearly didn't look at the paperwork to see that I had anxiety and sensitivity. He starts just scraping around my teeth and aggressively poking my gums. I winced and moved uncomfortably in the chair and he seemed annoyed that I was in pain. It felt like he was shaming me about the issues with my teeth and telling me what I should have been doing, even though I've been keeping up with dental care previous to visiting this place. I explained that I used to have great dental insurance and a different provider through my husband, but that he had just passed away this year and now I was on state insurance and attempting to establish new care, then got choked up and so overwhelmed by grief, fear and shame. The nurse patted my arm as I started to silently sob and asked if I was still grieving?! What?! What do you think? My husband just died...and I'm getting my mouth attacked by an aggressive and unfriendly staff. I will always grieve my husband of 20 years that suddenly died and left me a single mother of two kids. It would have been better had she said nothing, by adding insult to injury. I couldn't understand much of what the doctor was saying with his accent and he just sounded angry as he kept repeating the same word over and over again that I still didn't understand. I felt like he wasn't even attempting to communicate clearly. Throughout my painful cleaning, I listened as he had numerous conversations with various people, from where to leave a package, him asking to get receipts, asking another nurse if a patient can wait five more minutes as I laid there feeling like he was rushing through my visit and treating me like cattle. He asked if I wanted fluoride and I declined, just wanting out of there as fast as I could and he seemed excited that I didn't want it and moved on to referring me to an endodontist for another problematic dental issue. When he finally finished hurting my teeth and told me to go home and rinse with salt water because I was in pain, I went to retrieve my ID and insurance card. I was told the receptionist was busy and to sit and wait even longer! They wanted to schedule me for another appointment to fix my tooth, so I sat for another ten minutes. The receptionist seemed over worked and confused.

Dr Dan and his staff aren't only professional but they are also some of the nicest people. Dr Dan has definitely transformed my teeth and gums. I went to Portland City Dental on January 20 after a bridge supported by two lower-left implants…read morecame out. I requested a panoramic X-ray. Both this dentist and a dentist I know in France confirmed that my upper right and lower right molars needed extraction. The estimate included extractions, a bone graft on the lower right, and an implant. However, there was visible movement in the upper implants. When implants in one arch are unstable, it is clinically important to fully evaluate the cause and structural stability before proceeding with new grafts or implants in the opposing arch, as bite force, alignment, and overall occlusion affect long-term outcomes. Despite this, the plan focused on moving forward with the lower extraction and graft. This is a family-run practice. The dentist's wife manages the front desk, and his daughters serve as assistants. While there is nothing inherently wrong with a family practice, I found the level of professionalism concerning in a surgical setting. During a root canal on the upper right molar, one of his daughters assisted. The office did not have hands-free suction equipment, and she repeatedly failed to suction properly while the rubber dam was in place. At one point, she sprayed me directly in the face with water. When I questioned whether she knew what she was doing, she responded sarcastically rather than reassuringly. Nitrous oxide was not available in the office. After the procedure, I was asked whether I was on antibiotics, although none had been prescribed. I had to ask the front desk why no antibiotics had been issued. When I expressed concern, the dentist reacted by yelling and slamming a door. I was given no written aftercare instructions, no explanation of expected pain levels, and no guidance regarding the gauze placed after the procedure. As the anesthesia wore off, I experienced significant pain. I emailed the office multiple times asking about the gauze and received no response. The practice operates out of three offices, and it was extremely difficult to reach anyone by phone. When I raised this issue, I was told, "You'll get used to it." I chose not to return and instead sought a second opinion. The contrast was significant. The second dentist provided written aftercare instructions, prescriptions for pain management, an ice pack, and a follow-up call the next day. When I returned with discomfort, the area was evaluated, cleaned, sutured properly, and reassessed. I was also advised that no bone graft or implant work should be performed on the lower jaw until the upper implants are fully evaluated by a specialist. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Portland City Dental. Surgical dentistry requires careful sequencing, proper equipment, professional conduct, clear communication, and structured aftercare.

I decided to take a deep breath & try them anyway. I am SO glad I did. It all started before I even got there - Alyssa (front desk/receptionist) was so communicative about my insurance benefits & offered options to make it possible to get the services I needed. Upon arrival I was greeted by & got X-rays from such a sweet, hilarious & very knowledgeable tech named Hallie. They constantly asked about comfort & gave options for how to be cared for. I was extra nervous to meet Dr.Knight, based on previously mentioned reviews... to my delight he was awesome. He communicated clearly, was kind, told some pretty funny/dry Dad jokes that put me at ease. He was present & answered all of my questions. On to my cleaning with Erik - who's done this for 10 yrs & it showed through their patience, communication & tenderness during the whole experience. Jokes were told, consistent checking in with what I needed & just the right amount of silence truly made me sooooo glad I listened to my gut, to give this place a chance. I'm so happy with the experience and hope you give them a chance too!
