As a side note, I always find it funny that they love to ask questions when you have stuff in your mouth lol. Cons: the front desk check in was slightly annoying. I had to sign documents on a pad without seeing the screen. Sure they told me verbally & provided a clipboard with the document, but I wanted to see the actual screen to ensure I was indeed signing the right thing. When I told the lady this she seemed slightly annoyed but she did share her screen with me. I just had a previous experience where I was listening to someone read the document while I signed and they withheld certain info that cost me $4000. Very hard lesson to learn. I asked if the appointments could be combined, since I can't take multiple days off work for a routine cleaning, and the response was met with audible sighs and an overall attitude that felt impatient and dismissive. I was first offered a random Wednesday appointment. I explained that I can only do Fridays, and again there were sighs and visible frustration while the schedule was being reviewed. I also clarified that I'm in no rush--just that the appointments needed to be on the same day and on a Friday. A date was eventually given. I then offered to complete new x-rays if that would make scheduling easier, rather than transferring records from my previous dentist last year. I was told, sharply, that x-rays were not the issue--that because I haven't been seen in four years, an examination is required first. At that point I questioned the attitude being displayed, and was told that I was the one with the attitude. When I said I may need to go elsewhere if this was the tone of the interaction, the response was, essentially, "yeah, maybe you should." Guess Edelweiss doesn't need new patients. It's disappointing that this level of disrespect is how the practice chooses to represent itself.

I was encouraged and pressured to "hang in there" as two college students were trying to pass their exams. After a while one of the "approving professors" came along and noticed tears streaming down my face and asked me if I was okay - he quickly removed all of the gear and clamps that were pressed against my teeth and gums. Since then I have experienced severe anxiety whenever going to the dentist (even as something simple as a teeth cleaning sends me into anxiety), so finding the right dentist for me is (literally) more important than finding the right medical Doctor. I recently moved back home after 30 years and was now in search of a new dentist that I could trust...and it cannot just be anyone!! Cut to: Dr. Hieu at Atlas Dental... I cannot express (enough) the level of kindness, compassion and patience that Dr. Hieu and his crew exhibit. Upon my first consultation, I went in expressing the level of fear and trauma that I have with dentists, and they took me under their wing with such loving care and ease. I would have to admit that I put Dr. Hieu under a microscope as I would compare him to my previous dentist out of Los Angeles (who probably has 25 + more years of experience) and who was a season veteran of talent and of one in putting me at ease. Not only did Dr. Hieu exceed those expectations, he even did an amazing job in redoing some veneers of 15 years. At every mark, not only did I notice Dr. Hieu checked every box...but he started to exceed the boxes of his predecessor in L.A of 25yrs. At every step he made sure I was comfortable and happy with whatever work was being performed at the moment... as well as his assistant Gloria - Gloria is MY GIRL!! (Whatduup Gloria?!!) From the smallest corners of the back rooms to the largest corners of the front office of Kelsey and Kim, everything and everyone is pure perfection. You know you found your home when you miss your dentist and his office! I literally feel like I'm part of the family and (shockingly) I look forward to going to see them all - I don't know what's wrong with me - but I guess you can attest it to their perfection and professionalism. Just a footnote: I waited one year to write this review because I didn't want to rush into anything...I wanted to make sure I wrote the most accurate and honest description. Dr Doran joined their practice 10 years ago, and Dr Malmquist more recently (when Benben stepped back a few years ago), and both have the same careful thorough way while being really nice people as well! The hygienists are great, too - often very long-time parts of the clinic, though one recently left to go to dental school, which is of course great for everyone. The office is still old-fashioned about calling for everything (appts, payments, etc), but they're excellent at what they do. Highly recommend!

I was with Dr. Ben Ben when they moved to the cute little house on Pettygrove from up the street on 23rd. (10 years ago) The receptionists there have worked there a while and they're so sweet. The hygienists are hilarious and sweet ladies. I miss them! However, Dr. Ben Ben won't go in my books as the best dentist I've had, but he gets the job done and doesn't BS you or try to make you pay for stuff you don't need. When he partnered with Jessica Wheeler, I was extremely happy because she's much more sensitive to your needs. The reason I stopped going to Dr. Ben Ben is because of one experience I had - that traumatized me forever. Because he is so frank, he sometimes treats you as if he knows what is better for you. I got just a little bit of Novocaine because he was trying this new technique for one of my cavities (it was basically like a sand blaster...but for your teeth) ...anyway, it didn't work out so well, so he ended up having to drill. I asked him to numb me more, but he insisted I would be fine. Once we started drilling, I was literally in tears, but he refused to give me more Novocaine! I could partially feel the drilling and it was extremely painful. I told him it hurt and he said I was fine. I'm not being dramatic...this honestly happened. I loved Dr. Ben Ben before, but I couldn't take this one. I honestly would recommend you see Jessica Wheeler if you go to Dr. Ben Ben's practice - he partnered with her a few years back and she is the sweetest thing!
