We had such an amazing time with chef Renato! He was engaging, entertaining and every one from youngest (3 1/2) to oldest (85) was involved and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We all learned so much through his instruction and explanations. Completely hands on from start to finish. He was encouraging and also made us laugh. We had a "competition" which was a blast. Well worth the investment of time and money. It was an experience we'll remember and hopefully repeat. There was no rushing to be done, he takes his time, which allowed us to ask questions and really enjoy the moments.

The first meal ever that my son cooked. Thank you Renato for being his teacher!

I lived in Italy for 18 mos and can attest that the private cooking class with Renato this week in Portland was fantastico! The dishes we made were simple but full of flavors, just like how I remember them in Italy. My son and his gf had a wonderful time and I am so thankful to have things worked out and Renato was available. Renato was fun, knowledgeable and passionate about cooking. He shared with us where to get the freshest and highest quality ingredients. He was so attentive to my son and his gf and engaged them in the process the whole time. With his bubbly personality and in-depth knowledge about cooking Italian food, he kept us entertained the whole time. My sisters are so jealous of me when they saw the pictures I post here. Of course the final dishes were really yummy.

I had the pleasure to do a dinner and a pizza class with Renato!! My first experience with Renato not only did he make us feel like Family, his fun bubbly energetic personality and his love for cooking and an Amazing cook WOW! For starters he made us zucchini boats, meat and cheese platter. Main dish was carbonara and dessert was tiramisu.. and WOW!!! Let me tell you never buying tiramisu at Costco. All these ingredients from his garden & meat and cheese's from his distributors. During the whole process talked to us the importance of fresh ingredients and of course All of us questioning him about Italy. I had an amazing time that I planned a pizza class. The reason I decided to do a pizza class was for my daughter since the previous time she didn't join us. We did a group of 7.. it was such a blast my daughter enjoyed making her own pizza and loved his personality. Renato made it SOOO fun that I can't wait to see him next summer. He is WORTH THE EXPERIENCE!!!!! When the night was done my daughter tells me ," Mom we have to go to Italy!!!!!! If any of you ever get the opportunity to meet Renato and you have kids do the pizza class!

If you're searching for a unique experience as a gift for someone special or you want to become a better cook - look no further! My boyfriend and I just finished our second cooking class with Renato. The first was a private pizza making class in our house that so wonderful I didn't think anything could compare. But we booked a group gnocchi making class a few weeks ago and it was a memorable night filled with wine, laughter, and some of the best food we've ever had. Renato provides everything for the evening and all you need is a willingness to learn. We showed up to his spacious and state-of-the-art kitchen, Renato immediately served us wine and appetizers he made from scratch, and then we spent the next few hours making four different types of gnocchi, each more delicious than the last. We cooked with a great couple visiting from California and had a blast connecting over stories and food. Renato's instruction is helpful and things move quickly in the kitchen but he's patient and hilarious. You're going to learn a lot about how to treat beautiful ingredients and about how to prepare a truly authentic Italian meal.

We made this!!! Fettuccine with mushrooms.

Renato came to our home for a cooking lesson with my family, including my 7 year old son. He was AMAZING!!! The food was delicious (focaccia, caprese, olives, marinated salami, 2 pasta dishes). Renato patiently helped my son chop zucchini and mushrooms and knead the pasta dough. We had never made pasta before, but Renato made it fun and easy. Now my son wants to make it everyday. (He will have to live with disappointment.) Renato was very friendly and fun. The class also helped give my husband confidence that he can cook this delicious food on his own as well. Renato was so patient and taught us a lot about why we were doing certain steps, so we could understand better. I highly recommend Renato!!!

Wow! Renato and Addriene know how to feed a hungry Familia! This is Not our first time Having Renato. We have been to several events that included Renato and his many culinary talents! Some including his whole family! Our children Generously gifted us an evening with Renato at our home. The aromas coming from my kitchen were AMAZING! His Gnocchis were to DIE for! It was an evening to remember for always. Do Not hesitate to invite Renato into your home for an Italian adventure..... you will never regret it!

Renato's take on Tiramisu. Oh, so yummy!

We had the opportunity to celebrate the 50th birthday for one of my best friends over the weekend. We had considered many different options for having a fun dinner, and we decided to book Chef Renato for the evening (several weeks in advance). What an amazing experience! Renato and Adrienne came to our home and brought everything needed to prepare an authentic Italian dinner. From the Appertivo to the Dolce and everything in between, we enjoyed a rollicking four hour feast of great food, wonderful wines, and laughter. This wasn't just food. This was a first-class experience that no restaurant can match! Chef Renato and Adrienne explain each dish, each wine, and share their stories of life in Italy. I would give it 10-stars if I could -- it was that good!

    Fun with Renato

Chef Valentine is so nice and patient, the classes are fun, and at the end, you realize it's surprisingly easy to make good, healthy, affordable food that is delicious! I've taken the pork ramen class, which was my favorite. The broth, cooks in 30 minutes in an Instapot, and it was so rich and flavorful. I went out an Instapot the next day! We also made the noodles from scratch. It took a lot of kneeding to get the texture where it needed to be, but it was worth it! I haven't made the noodles at home yet because it took two of us to manage the pasta sheets and pasta machine, which I don't have. But someday! Also enjoyed the class where we learned how to make Saag Paneer, one of my favorite Indian dishes. Once you learn the technique, you can substitute chicken or lamb for the paneer. Quick, delicious, and far less money than if buying out. What makes these cooking classes so enjoyable is the ease and comfort of the atmosphere, created by Chef Valentine, and the ability to get to know the other people in the class. You all prep and cook together and then share the meal as a community. You can bring beer, wine or hard cider - and if you forget, go downstairs and buy some! People tend to share what they bring which adds to the sense of community. Chef Valentine has taught me knife skills, which I thought I had! Wrong. I was doing all the work and not letting the knife do it's job. It's all about the tools and using them properly. These classes have also taught me patience. Cutting all the veggies for the ramen takes time, skill and patience to get uniformed cuts. Prepping and measuring first makes the actual cooking process go smoother. I've always been a cook, but never much of a baker because baking is about being precise with measurements, which requires patience. After taking several cooking classes at Feed the Mass, I've learned how patience pays off. This Christmas, I baked about a dozen varieties of cookies, including baklava. They all turned out wonderful, according to my friends who gobbled them up and I owe it to Chef Valentine! Classes are located on the second floor of Whole Foods in the Pearl. You can park on the street or in Whole Foods garage. If you spent $10 on groceries, parking is free. Love taking classes here! I bought a book of 5 passes so classes end up being $25 per class, a bargain since you also eat a meal! What I really like is the mission of a Feed the Mass, which is to educate and provide classes to those who can't afford to pay for classes, to teach them how to make a healthy and affordable meals for their family. A meal that costs less than fast food and is far more delicious. And healthier. Taking classes supports this Non-Profit's mission. There are classes for kids, date nights, family classes and even classes where you learn how to prep a few meals that stretch out for a week. So take some classes and learn new skills, have fun and pay it forward! It's a great experience and a fun way to spend an evening with friends, family or as a single...once you walk in the door, you are part of the community.

No matter your skill level (unless, maybe, if you're already a professional chef), you'll learn something new. We made ramen noodles from scratch (!), which were an amazing consistency and soaked up the flavor of the broth well. We also learned proper knife techniques. Chef Valentine has a real passion for cooking and teaching others this important life skill as a means to a healthier lifestyle. A portion of class fees goes towards scholarships for classes for those in need. On the down side, this may have ruined me for instant and non-housemade restaurant ramen, as ours was so good! Now I'll really be saying, I could/should have made this at home!
