Carillon is an musical instrument consisting of at least 23 tuned bronze shaped bells. The first carillon used to play melodic musical composition originated back in the 16 Century in "Flanders" at the Oudenaarde Town Hall in 1510.
Alfred Domett whom was Napier's first appointed secretary of the colony was instrumental in designing Napier as a borough ( self governing town) back in 1874. To celebrate the 100 year anniversary of this event, "Rothmans Tobacco Company" donated this Carillon to the City of Napier in 1974.
The Carillon is located in the lovely historic "Clive Square" in Napier's Art - Deco City Center. Music can be heard everyday from 11:30 to 2PM on the half /hour. Relax and enjoy !
