In celebration of New Zealand being the first country to see the sun of the "New Millennium " year 2000, Napier's City Council held a Millennium Sculpture Competition in which the winner's design would be used on the new " Millennium Sculpture." The winner was a local international artist & designer "David Trubridge."
Mr. Trubridge design portrays "Ecliptic" depicting the path of the sun as it moves through the sky within a twelve month period.
The sculpture is placed in such a place along Marine Parade as this is where the sun did actually rise on the first day of the new millennium.
The Millennium Sculpture 62 foot arch and polished disc's are both made of steel with lights for night viewing. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to view this sculpture. The new Millennium has arrived !
