The service was top notch, if not a little overbearing. As I was relaxing and slowly sipping my drink, I was asked repeatedly if I was doing alright and if my drink was okay. Nicely redecorated space, formerly known as Cafe DeVine, at the intersection of TENNYSON & HASTINGS streets, ground zero centre of Napier's Art Deco Quarter. (1931 earthquake rebuild). Unique in southern hemisphere, 4 square city blocks of ART DECO preserved lovingly Outdoor or indoor self seating, we chose the latter, as there was a cool breeze off the ocean 200m away. Steady flow of business into AJUNA eatery 1145AM, a little buzz, accoustics slightly jarring, but conversation possible. Plenty of orders placed / paid at central cashier, our selections were delivered to our table in a reasonable time. Presentation of food and beverages is fine. Flavours ok, food not at all cheffy, no choices pronounced outstanding, but no complaints either. Best dish? Caesar salad probably. Quantity / serving size o.k.. Slightly above average quality. No 'deals' as such.... Prices standard for the region. Self serve water impressed; even a sparkling choice !! nice touch, Ajuna. Coffee was 'meh'. Maybe we didn't respond to the MOJO roasters? There is much better elsewhere in Napier in our view. Ambience and cleanliness @ Ajuna is good. Art abounds, nice comfortable spot for a chinwag or get together. Loos were tidy. Staff friendly. For the coffee with cream that we ordered, it cost around $6. It's a simple order, but it was delicious! The coffee was full of flavor and they gave us 1/3 of a bottle of fresh cream. I wish that I came in hungrier than I was because I would have loved to try one or more of their homemade goods! They cater to vegan, paleo, and gluten free diets. As a heads up, these goods are not cheap. They range from about $15-25 for a small salad or sandwich. The service was average and the location is great! The shop is fun to explore before or after eating. If I lived in Napier, I would absolutely treat myself to this more often.

Once we did figure it out, I had the pleasure of having pork belly for brunch with 3 salads and my partner had an exceptional attempt at eggs benedict (the hollandaise was velvety with a touch of lemon). They use premium products and Hawkes Bay's finest local produce but the pricing isn't put at a premium. The service is OK as is the coffee; I ordered a tall macchiato which was quite burnt. They were receptive to make me another one but unfortunately it was more of the same so I have taken away one star. Can't wait to go again!
