One of a handful of bridges to cross
Jessica P.

We rented a couple of cruiser bikes in Yountville and mainly spent riding on the Napa Valley Vine Trail for a 16-mile roundtrip excursion. It is a fairly flat trail lined with amazingly beautiful oak trees and fun footbridges. It runs parallel to the railway along Hwy 29 / Saint Helena Hwy, so it can be a bit noisy sometimes. Bikers, runners, and walkers with dogs share this course, so keep your eyes peeled and proceed with caution. Vineyards can be seen from the trail, but if you're like me, you'll want to take a closer look. To do so, you can turn off into the side streets along Solano Ave. We ended up in the backcountry, an adventure around Orchard Ave. Sometimes it made me a bit uneasy since we were sharing the road with vehicles. Nevertheless, we saw some gorgeous homes & vineyards, farm animals, and even a few sunflowers. Lastly, we were lucky to see the train running! That was pretty exhilarating!

I walked a bit of the Napa Valley Vine Trail this morning before it got too hot. Starting from the South Napa Century Center (free parking!) and walking north alongside the Napa River, it was smooth, level and beautiful. Green wetlands grasses and a great view, it was nice to get out a bit today and do some wandering. I don't have a bicycle in my Sprinter van (yet!) so I wasn't riding today but this is a great riding trail too. Restaurants and restrooms along the way, plenty to look at as you're getting some fresh air. There's 47 miles of trail here and I barely scratched just one. As a reminder, never hike alone and always bring a friend. And bring water! [Review 17564 overall - 360 in California - 1082 of 2022.]

I like that there is a paved trail that takes one through wine country, from Napa thru all the wineries, Yountville, St Helena, to Calistoga. Such a great way to see the entire region on bike! Can't wait to come back and rent a bike to do this trail. I just wish they (whomever manages this trail) would keep it cleaner. The sides of it in Napa are littered with broken bottles, trash, and the occasional homeless person or bumb.

So this paved trail pretty much follows the river side. Very wide path. Lends itself best for biking and skating. Avoid the mounds and tents off the paved trail. Some parts of the walk are peaceful but also desolate. It is ominous and relaxing at the same time. Best to go with a partner. No toilets or water fountains.

A great biking, walking, running trail along the river especially because it's paved the whole way! No shade though! I recommend going out early in the morning because it can get hot! And wear a hat and sunscreen! There are several bridges and you pass by a lot of people fishing! And there's a nice breeze! This trail's southern end loops around and passes by the Napa Valley BMX park! You also pass through smaller parks along the way as well as the Napa Wine Train! Lots of other runners and walkers and bikers and people pushing strollers of all ages so this makes it feel pretty safe!

Nice paved bike ride headed to the wine valley. Starting at the Kennedy park there is plenty of parking. This trail is completely flat and perfect for those new to biking. From Napa it goes all the way to Yountville. There are several bikers, walkers and joggers you may see along the path. I can't wait until they make the trail longer.

Started at Kennedy Park by the boat launch and rode all the way to Yountville. A lot of parking at Kennedy Park. The trail is paved all the way. When you get near oxbow the trail ends then it picks up again at Vallejo Street. So you have to use the street bike lanes in that area for only about less than 10 mins with traffic signals. It has beautiful views of the river and some cool wall art work along the way. Actual riding time was about 3.5 hours and about 24 miles round trip. We stopped at Yountville to eat and then on the way back stopped at Oxbow and Firestone brewery so the whole ride took us about 6.5 hours.

Biking up to yountville!

Great bike trail--well maintained and clear distinction from the road. The trail close to downtown Napa has a lot of stops for cross walks but once you get out further, you can go for much longer stretches.

nice paved trail that runs 12 miles from yountville (picks up right outside of Kelly gas station and Napa Valley Lodge) to napa. Easy to walk, nice views though you are by a major road. Good for running/biking :)

The first time was back in 2006, but I didn't review it back then. Went back today, Sat 1/16/10 so I could see it again & review it. We left Fmt and got to the meeting spot of the guided hike in 1hr20min. We meet in the Target's parking lot on Trancas Rd. They have 2 flush toilets w/ tp in outhouses down the hill by the picnic tables. We started hiking about 9:30am and finished about 2pm for a 7-mi loop hike. We did Maggie's Peak which is on private land. It's pretty steep, nice views on the top. Then we go down & hike on the side of the cliff, cross creeks, go down more steep & slippery rocks on not really a trail - just sides of the cliff. Saw the bottom of Devil's Well - nice waterfall, then climb a bit and see Devil's Well - you see a nice tall waterfall, and a middle waterfall that you can barely see. There's a rock scramble they call the Jumble that is a bit tough, but doable. Tons & tons of ladybugs when we went Sat 1/16/10. Ladybugs seem to like creeks & open area where they can get sun. Heading back saw a cool Hexagon rock - it's neat. Note: Leader found two ticks on her she removed after the hike!! Ticks in the area! Recommended. Website: http://napalandtrust.org/index.shtml

It's a short moderate hike of about 3 miles roundtrip. To hike with them you need to plan ahead and make reservations. I booked my group of 4 about 3 weeks beforehand, but I've done it with only a few days notice. Meet the leader Chris, then we carpooled to a location she told us in Angwin. There wasn't much climbing, & only 2 rushing creeks that we had to cross - nobody fell in & I didn't even get my feet wet. That was nice. I was at the lower more dramatic falls to Linda Falls & was able to go down by following the pipe, then heading down. It was not too scary. The middle cascade up higher was nice, very top cascade wasn't much. Meadows, fir trees, boulders, and ponds! We made it to the Falls on the last day of April. I would think that during the summer they wouldn't be flowing as greatly as they were now. Sitting below the falls was majestic. We also did the hike at the fork of the road, which eventually ends due to all the brush on the trail, and it was lovely as well with a beautiful pond

Walk heading North from the parking lot towards the green sign that reads bike route. You will follow that trail all the way down to the trailhead about a 1/4 mile in from the road. Once you get to the trail head you have two trails to choose from: the Linda Falls Trail or the Saw Mill Ridge Trail. We opted for the Linda Falls trail which is a 1.6 miles round trip. You will walk down a rocky path , then through a forest of trees. The trail will start to go downhill then becomes steeper as you head toward the waterfall. Going do the steep hill is where the gravel is loose and slippery. Once you get to the falls you will need to climb around the boulders to get those winning photos your friends and family will love to see on social media media. My suggestion is that you wear good trail running shoes or running shoes with good grip to the gravel as the trail can be slippery from the loose gravel. Please do not wear sandals or slippahs. Please leave your tiny dogs home unless you want to carry them over the rocks when you get closer to the waterfall. Last tip- bring water and snack to enjoy when you get to the falls. Make sure you take your trash with you. If you still have energy to go to the next trail saw Mill Ridge then head back to the trailhead you first started at. We started to head down and made it half way down until my hubby said let's turn around. I think it was his way of saying "I'm really hungry and I need to eat soon before I get hanger." Haha We plan to go back again to finish the Saw Mill Ridge Hike. This trail does have two small creeks you need to cross over. Have fun, stay on the trail , and be safe. Enjoy the pics

It is tucked into the hills east of the Napa Valley. The country roads to get here are narrow and windy. Though a little tough to get to, what you will get in return is lack of crowds and serenity. Did a 5 mile loop here, which started with a climb up a hill through an oak lined trail. It climbs for about 25-30 minutes, and most parts are quite shady, so quite nice. Most of the views are just of the neighboring canyon landscape. You also may run into a few cows here and there. You also may run into pockets of bugs flying in clusters. This doesn't really *bug* me, but just FYI. On the descend is where you will run into the lake. The remaining part of the hike will now be flat, out in the sun but literally lake side. The blue from the sky and lake mirror off each other. A cool breeze often bounces off the lake to ease you from all the sun bathing you will be exposed to. But if you take out your earbuds for a while and just listen to the natural sounds here, (highly recommended), it will sedate you into a meditative state. This lake is so quiet, that you can hear the voices from the people on the boats, hundreds of yards away. It's crazy. So lots of bikes on this trail as well, especially this flat, lakeside part. So keep on the right side and be mindful on what's behind you at all times. And even though out in the cuts, you're still really only about 20 minutes away from restaurants/wineries of the Napa Valley.

We've also kayaked as well and have come across fresh water otters that are so curious and love to follow your kayak. The absolute BEST time to come visit is in the spring when the grass is so green and all of the flowers are blooming. The water is usually very calm and there is a ton of wildlife to just sit and watch. It's one of the most scenic places in the valley, and it's so close to downtown St. Helena so after you can always go get lunch! Whether you're visiting or live in the valley, visit this gem!
