Been going to what used to be Riebe's for 22 years. Went last week and the young man had an off day. Anyway, he had me place my bank card in the holder. It did its usual beeping and do not remove card. Then the machine clicked "Approved" so I took my card out. The salesperson then told me the transaction did not go through and I need to go to the cashier in the front of the store. I later checked my bank account and found (not to my surprise) two transactions of $50.76. I called and spoke with the manager who told me I had to bring my receipt in. I did the next day and the 40 year veteran salesperson told me the store is not responsible for the double charge and to take it up with the bank. It cost me $7.00 round trip to be denied crediting my account. The manager could've reversed the overcharge but chose not to. Where's Bart when you need him? Anyway, I came home and filed with my bank on the double charge. I am now tempted to shop at O'Reillys Auto Parts and/or Autozone. I once had a gentleman at the back corner half an hour trying to help me diagnose something wrong with my car. Their prices are good. The store is clean. Boy was I hopeful that my encounter would go smoothly. I ran into some fellas at a gas station that blew their serpentine belt. They asked for my help. The closest auto parts store was 8 miles away. I offered to go get the part and bring it back. He called and told them exactly year/make/model. I independently looked up the part as well, it was $21.00. I got to the store, talked to an associate who talked to the other associate that took the call asking about the part. I paid for the part, it rang up for half the price as expected. I walked back and said I don't think this is the part, it's a different price. He said, I found a cheaper one, it's exactly the same. I asked, "are you sure?!" Because it's close to closing and these guys are stranded. "Yes, it's exactly the same." Low and behold, 1.5 hours later struggling to get the belt on it was the wrong size. So they were destined to be stuck until the next day when they reopened. It's a small mistake like this that will ruin the afternoon of two kids, a mom and three men who just wanted to go swimming. The store was clean, well stocked and organized. The cashier looked a bit bored, don't know why you don't just pay at the counter when you get the part, it seems unnecessary to add the cashier into the process but I'm used to AutoZone and O'Reilley's. The other workers were busy helping customers, the phone kept ringing so they're doing something right I just got the unlucky experience that day. Hopefully future encounters, however unlikely, turn out better. I will stick with AutoZone and O'Reilley's for now. read more

Riebe's was the perfect shopping place for my new back-up generator in case PG&E does a power outage again. 5 gallon fuel can, stabilizer for the fuel, strap to secure the fuel can in the pick-up truck bed, oil, oil funnel (took several trips to get the right funnel), tools to help assemble the generator, new cotter pins when I installed the wheels backward on the axle. Thank you to Eileen at the front end who was endlessly helpful and supportive, courteous, and professional in helping this generator rookie get everything necessary. P.S. This review is for the Riebes MACHINE SHOP not the auto parts store. I'm a DYI auto enthusiast doing a total rebuild, looking to have some machining done on a Ford big block V-8. I went in to the connecting auto parts store to price a total performance rebuild kit for this engine. The parts counter said they don't carry kits, everything has to be bought separately at quite a bit higher price than kits that you can find all day long elsewhere. The parts counter guy was TOTALLY COOL and suggested where I could get these kits. I will CONTINUE to use Riebes auto parts store! I then went into the machine shop to ask about the machine work on this engine for the total rebuild. MY MISTAKE was to mention that I was referred where I could buy the kits. The first thing the guy behind the counter did was say "Who told you that!" I felt like I just got the guy in the store in trouble and he was going to get fired. I didn't come to this place to get into this kind of BS. I'm a retired heavy equipment mechanic looking to have machine work and possibly more done at a fair price. I asked about having all the work including assembly done at the machine shop. I was told how expensive my engine is. Quoted approx $5000 to do it. I mentioned that rebuilt long blocks can be bought for $2000. I was then told that they are machined and assembled by "Any Yahoo" I realize that this place needs to stay in business, keep people employed and production rebuild shops can do things cheaper. In my opinion, rather than trying to work with me, this place tried to Sell me. They are high priced. I'm willing to pay some extra to have things done local but not that much. I found another very reputable machine shop in the area that would work with me, do machining and assembly using parts that I buy and a price 20% less if I decided to go that route. I will not use this machine shop. read more

I had a bad experience with a prior battery purchased at a local tire shop in GV, but went next to Riebes who hooked me up with a FRESH battery. When it comes to battery replacement, watch that you don't get sold a battery that has been sitting on the shelf for years.... Since Riebes sells allot of batteries, you'll get a fresh one. I recently visited the Grass Valley store to return a previous purchase and obtain a 12v RV light bulb. What's important to know is how helpful and persistent they were in researching what I needed and accepting the prior purchase for refund even though I had lost the receipt. Several of the staff went above and beyond what would be considered good service, led by the very tall fellow, who had been very helpful a prior time I was there as well. My sister and I needed to buy a headlight for her Honda CRV. Never having changed such a gadget, we went into the store completely oblivious of how to proceed. Ryan met us at their Customer Service counter and he guided us o the proper purchase and then proceeded to follow us outside to help us change the burned out bulb. He could not have been more kind. I love living in our beautiful small town as the sense of community is paramount...and my sister was thrilled she didn't have to deal with it in her big city. We have an old golf cart that needed new batteries, 6 golf cart batteries are not cheap! One of my kids favorite things to do is go on golf cart rides and down family time cruising around our neighborhood and going to the pool on the golf cart. So, when I found an online discount for these batteries I went in to see if they had them in stock. The lady at the counter directed me to Mike. Mike was cheerful and happy to help. The online discount had every battery except the ones we needed! Mike went back and forth checking over the phone, talking to other employees and couldn't figure out why the batteries we needed weren't on sale. Mike probably spent an extra half hour or more working on getting my son and I the sale price for the batteries. I just want to say Thank-you to Mike and Napa Auto parts. I went there today because my battery died. I purchased another battery and I asked Chris if I should take it to an auto shop to get it installed and he offered to install it instead. I would have had to pay around $100 just for the installation and I was so shocked that he said he would do it for free!
