    Hot!
    Fatema Z.

We were a big group who randomly showed up after a tiring camping weekend on a Sunday afternoon for a big lunch. The staff were very friendly and so accommodating, they helped put together a few tables for us and within minutes, we were seated. As most Nandos, all their special sauces, cutlery etc were self-serve and the automated drinks machine with over 100 flavours was pretty cool! We ordered a couple of the Party Packs (great for big groups - it consists of 3 full chickens, 5/6 sides and a choice of Portugese buns or garlic bread). After not being impressed by the food at another Nandos branch in Ottawa, I was worried about the food being bland. However, everything was amazing! The quality was excellent, comparable to Nandos in the UK. Succulent and flavourful chicken, peri peri fries done just right, creamy coleslaw, hot Portugese buns with butter and tasty garlic bread! The tired & hungry group devoured the feast 'til the last bite and everyone was very satisfied. The manager came round a few times to check if everything was OK and was very welcoming. Highly recommend this Nandos, will definitely be back when next in Ottawa! :)

I don't know why anyone goes to Swiss Chalet anymore. If I could replace all the Swiss Chalets in Ottawa with Nando's I wouldn't hesitate! I've been here twice and both times were great. First time on a Friday night, it was busy and we luckily got the last available table. Second time on a Saturday around 2pm for lunch, several tables were occupied but otherwise not too busy. The menu is simple and easy to read, the waitress was friendly and was able to answer any questions we had. Even if you get a table, you have to go up to order at the counter. You get to choose the sauce you want on the chicken, we ordered Lemon&Herb as I'm not a fan of spicy. But there is a counter in the table area with all the Nando sauces, so you can grab a bottle for your table and dip in as much as you want! We like to order a full chicken for the both of us, and I enjoy the peri-peri fries so we always get a side order of that. Both times the chicken was very tender and perfectly grilled. The fries always have just the right amount of seasoning! No complaints here! The prices are decent for what you get and the service is great! Highly recommend if you are looking for some delicious chicken!!

Aww yeaaa! Chicken. Chicken my friends. Apparently there is a super famous restaurant chain in London that is also called Nandos. And everyone raves about it? I know about it since two of my British friends eyes light up whenever they speak of this place. I guess the story is something about he chicken being Portuguese? I dunno I wasn't paying attention because I was too busy stuffing my face with the chicken and the FRESH bread. As soon as you get in you will get hit in the face with that grilled chicken smell. We ordered the family pack - two whole chickens, [lemon and hot] with 3 large side dishes and tons of bread. (Garlic and regular). The sides were : salad, fries and grilled veggies. *The salad was plain, but nothing wrong with that! *The fries were alright. I normally like my fries on the crunchy side. *we didn't touch the grilled veggies because we were too busy eating everything else * the chicken was plump and tasty. My mouth is actually watering as I'm writing this up. We had tons of food left and we were three people with big appetites.

Double leg with spiced rice and peri fries

Uh Oh there is some chicken competition growing in Ottawa. Forget the really big chains, there is enough good chicken to be had in the smaller chains/ one off restaurant. So after trying the broasted chicken I had to the try the nando's peri chicken. Oh boy was I excited! Chicken to me is like tofu of the meat world. It is only as good as the flavouring and cooking. Well after chowing down on two super 'hot' chicken legs with a side of spiced rice and peri fries I think I can give you an honest review. So to my awesome readers, I'd just like to say this one is good in my books. The chicken is tender, juicy and flavourful. That's not all though, because with the chicken you also get great service, nice environment for a relaxed lunch/dinner with some friends. On top of all that the decor and writing on the walls of this restaurant are pretty hilarious. Going to a restaurant is about good food and a good experience and this one delivers on both for a very reasonable chunk of change :)

Nando's is known for its chicken, because frankly, they do it really well. However, some of their non-signature items also deserve mention. I tried the Caesar salad with the Peri-Peri chicken sandwich, and it was very good. They didn't go stingy with the dressing, and matched the quality of many of the more expensive restaurants. I also enjoy the spicy-scale they have, as I personally like my food spicy. Naturally, I went with the extra-hot level! Nando's is a restaurant in that they they take the food to you, but is qasi-fast food in that you order up front, and the cashier also serves as the server. It makes for a casual yet non-fast foodish atmosphere. Another non-chicken item that is underrated here are the fries, which are crispy. I also enjoy the special Nando's sauce they have, which is always good.

Chicken with mashed potatoes, and grilled liver!
    Mimi J.

I had their famous chicken and also tried the grilled liver. Both were very tasty, but the chicken needs a lot of sauce to be flavourful. I used the spiciest sauce and may have drowned the chicken in it...oops! The liver was very tender and charred just right. This location does not have the drink machine though, the Elgin location has that (and it is SO fun to try unique soft drink flavours you would normally not get to try)!

Wrap with no sides, and three chicken sandwiches with sides.

Nando's is something of a novelty in the UK, so my boyfriend and I were happy to find one in Nepean. I was pretty happy with the experience! You order your food at the counter and then they bring it to your table. Cool, rustic decor. All of my friends ordered a chicken sandwich with sides and I ordered the chicken wrap. The chicken is fresh and delicious. The buns are so good, and they use them for the garlic bread too. I think their fries were the best, though. One of my friends said there wasn't enough chicken on his sandwich, but that might be a personal taste thing, or he just enjoyed it so much he wanted more. Knowing their reputation for hot sauces, I opted for the more mild Lemon & Herb sauce. It was really tasty and a very subtle heat, so I think I could go up to Medium next time. Great place! If you're bored of Swiss Chalet, check it out!

Well, the chicken wings are very dry, prefer juicy meat. Like the bread! Tasty!

I was poking around on UberEats looking for deals, as I often do, and came across this new restaurant. I searched online and their website was under construction at the time and their Google Maps listing hadn't had any pictures up yet, so I was a bit hesitant, but I decided to take a chance, especially since they had some great BOGO (buy one get one free) deals on UberEats. I ordered the Fried Chicken Combo ($13 BOGO) which comes with 2 pieces of fried chicken and 2 sides and I bought 2 extra pieces of fried chicken ($7 BOGO). So in total I got 8 pieces of fried chicken and 4 sides for only $20. What a deal! So glad I took a chance and tried this restaurant because the food was delicious! The chicken was so good. The skin was so crispy and the meat was tender and juicy. All the pieces were thighs and drumsticks. I got 2 sides of rice and peas and 2 sides of cabbage. The rice and peas (beans) was delicious. It had a strong coconut milk flavour to it which I loved. Yet it wasn't too oily. The rice was soft and fluffy. Excellent! The cabbage was also delicious and had some pieces of potatoes mixed in. So I had ordered on UberEats for pickup. There were a few hiccups, but they were new (just opened on Feb 23, 2024 which was just 4 days before my visit) and they were so friendly and welcoming, and I got a great deal, so I forgave, lol. So shortly after I placed my order, I got notification that my order was ready. I was shocked but thought maybe they had the stuff premade like at food courts. So I drove over since I was nearby and when I arrived they apologized and said they made a mistake, it would actually be another 25 minutes. Lol. I was already at the restaurant, so I just waited there. Then I got my food after the wait, and they forgot about the BOGO so I just received half of my order. When I advised them they were again apologetic and quickly went off to make the rest of my order, but I had to wait another 25 minutes. They offered to deliver it to me themselves, but I was ok to wait. They are a small independent business and family run. The chef, Vicky, was lovely. As was her daughter who was there helping. And her little grandson was there too. I love supporting business like this. They were so genuine and sincere. I always root for restaurants that are strong on love and passion for the food even if weak on the logistics and business end of running a restaurant. There are tables for dining in. The ambience is casual. I did like that the containers were cardboard and not styrofoam. Extra points for environmental responsibility and it's better for health reasons too (no nasty chemicals leaching into the food from styrofoam). Free parking available on-site. I'm so thrilled to see more culinary diversity here in Ottawa. After Stonefaced Dolly closed down there hasn't been another South African restaurant in the city until Soweto Kitchen opened up. Wishing Soweto Kitchen much success!! (28)

I've never had egusi and I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked the pounded yam with the stew. However. The meats they put in the egusi were really dry and over cooked. There were a few chunks of beef which was sooo dry and hard, and also a piece of tripe. The tripe looked a bit questionable, and I didn't really feel comfortable trying it because it looked a little raw in the middle? We weren't sure but the middle texture looked off. For the goat platter, I didn't really enjoy that as much. The goat was also dry and definitely overcooked. The jollof rice tasted like smoke. I like a smokey flavour sometimes but it seems like they added artificial smoke flavour or something. It was very overpowering and it was the only flavour of the rice. It wasn't really spicy or anything. Also, I ordered a large platter but the portion wasn't that large. It was an ok amount I guess. I will definitely try more egusi stew in the future but I'm not sure that I'll be back here. For the price, I found the food a little bit underwhelming.

The platter came with 3 pieces of chicken (a drumstick, a thigh, and a wing with a bit of breast meat attached), jollof rice, plantains, some lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and onions, a tiny container of coleslaw, and some extra spices to sprinkle on your meal if you want it spicier/hotter. The spice level was good. It had a definite kick to it. It wasn't super hot (but could be made so with the extra spices), but if you don't like spicy food, I probably wouldn't recommend this dish, lol. My husband and I loved the flavour and hotness of the chicken and the jollof rice. Flavour party in our mouths, lol. I found the rice a bit on the oily side, but it was still really good. The plantains were soft and sweet. The lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and onions were fresh and crisp. The coleslaw was mayo based and unremarkable, but ok. The combo platter came with a drink and I chose a can of Sprite. I ordered at the restaurant and service was efficient. I waited less than 15 minutes for my food. The dining room is pretty and quite large. They have their menu printed on large signs in front of the bar. They had no takeout menus so I just used the signs in front of the bar. If you dine-in they have regular menus. The restaurant is on the ground floor of a four-storey building. There's a parking behind the building (the entrance is off Bayswater). Street parking is also available.

If so, I learned that the owner of those 2 places is the owner of the newly opened OB&O Afro-Caribbean Restaurant! I missed out on eating at Fumi's and Mugena's, so was glad to be able to try OB&O. The food is delicious!! My husband and I shared the Jerk Chicken Platter ($16.99) and the Beef Roti and Salad (which was actually coleslaw) ($11.99). The Jerk Chicken Platter came with a chicken leg (drumstick with thigh attached), 4 pieces of plantains, and lots of rice and beans. The chicken was fall-off-the-bone tender and so flavourful. It had a good amount of heat to it. So I wouldn't recommend it if you can't handle spice. It's not overly spicy, but definitely has some kick. I loved the chicken. The plantains were sweet and soft without being mushy. They were great. The rice was plentiful and spotted with red kidney beans. It also had a spicy kick to it. My only complaint is that it was a bit too oily for my tastes. However, it was still incredibly enjoyable. The Beef Roti was also delicious. The beef cubes, although not all that plentiful, were tender and lean. The potatoes and chickpeas were a good consistency, not too hard but not too mushy. Overall, very tasty, and not spicy at all. I was not a fan of the coleslaw, but I don't like coleslaw in general. It was a mayo-based coleslaw with cabbage, carrots and cucumbers. The latter is an ingredient I don't usually see in coleslaw, so props to them for that. It wasn't bad, I just don't like coleslaw. Overall, we both really enjoyed the food.
