Seriously, Hot Star have a store in the CBD that's super popular so…read morewhen I was doing some grocery shopping with mama and found that they have opened at Eastwood, I had unconsciously lined up already. I am such a big fan of fried chicken especially since I had the original in street markets at Taiwan so my anticipation was building. It of course did not disappoint. The juiciness of the beautiful glorious chicken and the crispiness of the batter and skin, ugh, I have shivers going down my spine just thinking about it. They sprinkle on a wonderful spice mix and the 'spicy' one was hot enough to make me reach for water but so tasty. The crazy size makes for a wonderful Instagram photo and you feel like you get your money's worth too. So drop everything you're doing and go taste this amazingness that will enhance your life - no kidding!

Fried foods need time and love to get…read morecrispy and crunchy and golden and all those things that will trigger that Pavlovian response. This is what Hot Star has nailed - everything that goes into their fryers (so everything on their menu) are fried to order and fried to a timer to make sure it's just on the right side of browned and burn-your-tongue hot. You may have to wait but boy is it worth it. This Eastwood branch of Hot Star seems much much the same as the others around Sydney - same plastic bag you're handed after ordering, same delicious mushrooms and curly fries, same queue on the path out the front. Points off for scoops which look a little too coated with seasoning but maybe they just hadn't cleaned them yet after a long day of trade...maybe. Or is it just extra flavour? Perhaps the key point of difference at this franchise is what looks to be a side business selling anime Lego figurines and what looks like vitamin and mineral supplements. To offset the fried chicken, ya know?

Pymble Gourmet Food and Coffee House…read more Conveniently located directly opposite Pymble Train Station, this is the place where the businessmen and women of this particular North Shore suburb flock for their pre-train coffee. It's nothing special to look at - think every single hole-in-the-wall fish 'n' chips shop/chicken shop/almost cafe in your life. But then, it doesn't claim to be anything special - this is probably the first review ever written about it. It's no five star fine-dining experience, no cosy cafe. But what it does - provide coffee, sandwiches, burgers, hot chips and a well-stocked drinks fridge to the commuters of Pymble - it does brilliantly. The service is great, with a lovely proprietor who is incredibly friendly and smily, even at eight am. It's also very quick - less than a minute after asking for my train coffee, I receive it and warm wishes for a lovely day! The coffee itself is good - strong, but not overpoweringly so, but my request for one sugar seems to have manifested as a coffee twice as sugary as requested. The food is also good - although «gourmet» might be a bit of a stretch. Pymble Gourmet Food and Coffee House provides a wide range of delicious-looking ingredients for both the carnivorous and vegetarian amongst us, on equally delicious bread. My choice of red onion, lettuce and chicken breast on Turkish Bread was certainly a rewarding one - I was full and happy for the rest of the morning. With a price of less than eight dollars, my wallet was also smiling. What I thought was a questionable decision by my companion to get a burger - at 8am - turned out to be a great choice; the meat was lean and tasty, the bread thick and perfect for soaking up juices, and the other ingredients a delicious compliment. In summary, if you're on the go and you're hungry, Pymble Gourmet Food and Coffee House is exactly what you need.
