It has been going for years, and has managed to hold on to its fine reputation for decent quality and value for money throughout that time. It IS rather tiny, however, so it's possible you could easily walk past and miss it - but once you've been there once for food, you'll be a complete convert. Basically, they do American fast food - mainly burgers. It's not healthy, and it's not complicated, but what they do they do very well. The belly-busting All American 1/2 pound burger with fries and a tub of blue cheese sauce seems to go down well with meat-eaters, while there's a generously proportioned veggie option for people like me who don't eat beef. They also do chicken and pizza, but to be honest if you go to Uncle Sam's it should be for a burger, because that's what they do best. Excellent value for money!

The restaurant is tiny and like other reviews have said it so easy to miss, so its beggars belief how such a small place can churn out such big and hearty portions of food. The price is ok but that is completely offset by taste of the food, as the juicy and flavourful chicken engulfs your taste buds. Of course chicken is not for everyone and they do have plenty of other dishes on the menu such as huge burgers (which have appeared to been given a real shout in other reviews) and pizza but honestly I personally think Uncle Sam's rules the roost!

With Miss Millie's a few steps away it's only a matter of price that tempt's people to go here. Miss Millie's is a tried and tested recipe and as a copycat CFC are cashing in on the same formula. Due to the excessive amounts of salt in the recipe it's difficult to determine which is better between the two shops, but in my experience going along the brand route usually results in a better experience. As I have mentioned in previous fired chicken reviews, it's not a good idea to mix with alcohol after a night out due to the excessive salt, which has a dehydrating effect.

Sticking to tried and tested…read morefried chicken recipes and assemblages, this fast food outlet is all about giving people what they want, leaving the provision of innovative cuisine and nutritional benefits of food to other providers. That's not to say that there is some nutritional benefit to the fried chicken combo's that they serve... protein is the most essential ingredient in any meal, and is the only thing that the body cannot manufacture itself, even when it is well fed with all of the right things. For this reason we need to eat it every day to remain healthy. We need on average about 40 grams of the stuff daily, and Classic Fried Chicken probably provide that in each of their chicken options... and then some... And this is the downside! It is not advisable to regularly eat excessive amounts of protein, especially from animal sources, as there are diminishing returns on the health front. It's a complex subject, and so I won't go into here. Suffice to say, the occasional chicken meal is probably okay, but as a staple mainstay it's more than likely to be a bad idea. Fried food is really not a great way to obtain nutrition under any circumstances as it creates unwanted side effects that stress the body out. It's pretty toxic, especially if the fast food outlets don't change their oil as often as the could, and with escalating oil costs, I would image that it gets changed less often than it used to at most at the fast food outlets. A lot of the meals come with a smattering of salad, and whilst this is better than nothing, the amounts provided are woefully insufficient to amount to a well balanced meal. Classic Fried Chicken appears to be a well-run establishment that offers eating in as well as takeaways. They always have special offers running on a rotational basis.

Well, sorry to disappoint... but it's a blue and red, plastic-fantastic fast food joint on St Mary Street in the city centre! I don't think I've ever seen anything look quite so different from the name it carries as this place! But, it's an international chain with outlets in London, Paris and NYC and so they must be getting something right! They've got nineteen outlets in London alone. According to Naeem, who works at the St Mary Street, Cardiff branch, the biggest seller is, (somewhat unsurprisingly), the deep fried chicken... so I guess that people tend to think that this is their fotre.

Well Damn you Sherlock because I wish I never bothered. It cost me about a fiver for some spicy wings, a couple of chicken strips (or something like that), chips and a medium drink. The wings were good, but there were only two of them. The chicken strips were really greasy and tasted of nothing in particular. The chips were horrible. My Fanta was alright though! Definitely drunk food though. I won't be going there again, and it was only late night hunger and the fact Chicken Cottage is 2 minutes away that drove me to it. Next time I'll walk the little bit further to Chip Alley.

I guess that the Funky Chicken fast food outlet on Clifton Street is named after this song, and when all is said and done, it's a good name for a business of this kind... proving ultimately that there is redemption for everyone, even the Goodies! (I loved the Goodies when I was a kid by the way!) The Funky Chicken is a well established business in this troubled area, where the one way system is reeking havoc amongst the local trade. Sales for fast food are down across the board, especially during day time hours, but thankfully the Funky Chicken Is withstanding this nadir in the streets history. This has probably got a lot to do with the discounted prices. It's possible to pick up a bargain bucket for £9.99 which includes eight pieces of chicken, eight wings and four regular fries. Other promotional offers include a 10% discount for students, a free 1.5 litre bottle of fizzy drink with orders over £15.00 and free home delivery with orders of £10.00 or above. They also offer kids meals, pizza deals (including a 'buy one get a second one half price' offer on deep pan and thin crust pizza's). The menu is extensive, and also includes; burgers, Peri Peri chicken, kebabs, bbq ribs, snacks, sides and extras, as well as desserts and cold drinks. This is what I find odd about the city centre end of this fabled street: It somehow looks more dilapidated than the other end of the road, but some of the most lavish eateries, like Cla Zaman and Mirchi, and some of the most renowned and upmarket salons in Cardiff, such as Guy Christian and Coray & Co. are based here. This seems to contradict the appearance of the place, which is a little baffling! Salt N Pepper Grill, as the name would suggest, concentrates its efforts on charcoal grilling a pretty impressive range of kebabs, some of which are vegetarian. They have an 'all you can eat' option for £8.99, offering forty different items to choose from. Students, who get a 10% discount on normal menu prices, can enjoy the 'all you can eat' offer at £6.99. The food is well prepared and the service is good, but I wonder how adversely affected this restaurant is now that Cal Zaman has opened its doors... they're difficult to compete with in terms of scale and luxuriance, and priced similarly they present pretty stiff competition.

Because that's what this place is good for. Fried chicken and that's it. Don't bother with the chips. Forget the coleslaw and the corn on the cob. Stick to the chicken itself, and you won't go wrong. I'm always pleasantly surprised when I sink my teeth down into a juicy piece of cooked animal flesh. It really is delicious, and I'm not usually one of those crazy meat eaters. But I prefer the chicken here to, say, the stuff from KFC or Chicken Cottage. There must just be something in the coating with appeals to my own sense of yumminess. Oh, apparently other people agree. They're nodding vigorously at me. So, the service may, admittedly, not be great, but the chicken is, and it's worth the wait when you have The Fried Chicken Craving.

But that is regional enough that out-of-towners may be none the wiser of its, err, delights. This branch feels especially claustrophobic - its City Road sister is poky in isolation but positively spacious by contrast - and the service often doesn't seem to consider the words 'fast food' part of the job description. Only those who have burnt all their taste buds clean off on piping poultry could claim that Miss Millie's can even hold a candle to reigning chicken takeaway champs KFC in taste terms too. But Miss Millie's presents a passable alternative if you're stranded in Canton or wanting that chicken fix later than most of Colonel Sanders' shops stay open (seriously, how much trade do KFC lose shutting so comparatively early on Queen Street?). And if you're particularly lazy, at least the on-street parking is right outside and fairly plentiful.
