Since my hair was left unfinished, I booked a color correction listed as $180, but she charged me again for everything, including another trim. After $900 spent, my hair was still uneven, patchy, and had visible red chunks and orange roots, yet she refused to fix my roots. When I confronted her about the total price, she suddenly claimed she charges $100/hr, which was never disclosed upfront. I have texts proving her original quote. She also blocked out her availability when I tried to book a fix, forcing me to schedule under a fake trim appointment just to be seen. Her mother is the owner and completely dismissed and ignored me. No one apologized. I would never go here again let alone book with Brynn.

THE STYLIST: Jen arrives from Salt Lake City where she had fifteen years of experience as stylist at an Aveda salon - with all the great training Aveda provides. I imagine Jen's former clients in Salt Lake must really be missing her - and their Facebook posts say that is true - because Jen just cut and colored my hair for the first time and both services were simply top notch. My hair is fine - and I have found that unlike fine wine, fine hair does not improve with age - and challenging to cut. I have tried a number of different stylists in the six years I've lived in the Boise area and Jen provided not only the best cut to fit my hair that I've had here but among the best cuts I've had in a dozen years. (And I say that from the perch that my long term stylist in my previous city was crackerjack good.) Jen's advice on color was expert too - and yes hiding gray is part of my needs and wants list at this age - and I'm equally as delighted with that part of her work to improve on what was not looking good previous color work done elsewhere. I'm thinking Jen could work with anyone's hair to do just about anything they needed done. More than ample clear floor space for path of travel from stylist's chairs to shampoo area. Accessible loo too. One would assume 30 years into the ADA being law all salons would do as good a job of getting it right as does Studio. Then something clearly shifted around Nov 2025 when a large group of amazing stylists suddenly left. I obviously don't know the full story, but people do not leave a salon in waves like that for no reason. Ever since then, the professionalism here has absolutely tanked. I tried giving the salon another chance once they hired more staff. During my haircut appointment, the stylist spent most of the service talking about explicit personal topics that had absolutely nothing to do with me or my appointment. She repeatedly stopped cutting my hair to talk with coworkers, complained about wanting to go home, complained about working past close, and openly acted annoyed to be there... even though my appointment was booked during normal salon hours. My bangs were also cut unevenly. I honestly thought maybe I just caught someone on a bad day, so I came back again for color with a different stylist. Same energy, different person. She complained about management, complained about being exhausted, asked to leave early during my appointment, and had her boyfriend sitting in the waiting area while she worked. Then at checkout, she literally calculated a 20% tip for me and told me exactly what amount to enter into the keypad. I asked for 2 inches off, my hair fell below my chest, then the girl cut it to my collarbone! It was too late when I noticed and it was blunt cut so I felt like Lord Farquad. I was pleasantly surprised to find a salon here that uses non toxic products. What really convinced me to try A Beautiful Reaction was when I saw that the colorists and stylists received on-going education. I believe it's always important to improve one's skills. I also liked the mission statement on the website which says "We want to set ourselves apart by what we call the "BRe Experience." That means from educating our clients about the chemistry in our consultations, customized appointments built around your desires and budget, to the scalp massage at the bowl, and personalized follow up from our guest relations department guaranteeing our work." So I had high hopes going into my appt. Rather than going into detail for the sake of keeping this review on point, let's just say that I walked out of the salon with an experience that left a lot to be desired. I wrote to the owner Kelsey and expressed my dissatisfaction with the services provided and not only did she offer to make things right, but she offered to fix my hair herself. It really says a lot about a business when the owner is not only open to criticism but accepts responsibility. What a night and day experience I had this time. I was given five star service treatment from the offer of complimentary beverages to the warm towel and scalp massage at the sink. I am extremely pleased with the results. I definitely believe in second chances and I am looking forward to my next appointment.
