We enjoyed some of our recent dining experience at Namaste but not everything, in part because of our own mistakes. We do like the restaurant, found our servers to be most friendly and attentive in spite of being a little slowness resulting from staff shortage and being quite crowded on a weekend evening. Sadly we were seated next to party of a dozen people, who were noisily celebrating whatever. Really noisy. After ordering, we had to move outside to the patio, which was very nice though the weather was very hot. We loved our meal (exceptions will be noted in a moment): the Daal soup was terrific, thick and tasty, really excellent. So was the lamb biryani. And so was the chicken lollipop and chicken vindaloo -- except that we asked for medium spicy and found the dishes way, way too spicy to eat. Our bad. We ordered the lamb light on spices and it was wonderful. Wish we had been more careful. Our fault, but we'll come back, for sure, and be darned sure to keep our spices on the light side.

Here a few weeks ago and still dreaming of it. The mango lassi was soul cleansing and the thukpa was one of the best dishes I've had in my life. Pretty slow, but definitely worth it. Calm and quiet atmosphere.

Excellent hostess, food was decent, naan bread was good. However the hidden surcharges took us by surprise- is 4% gratuity expected and included? Are they trying to sneak this in expecting patrons won't know it's there? Just a bad taste in our mouth after decent meal .... Pun intended ;-)

Samosa chaat: everything you love inside and on a vegetable samosa, deconstructed style. We had to control ourselves from inhaling it.

Seriously some of the BEST Nepali/Indian Food I've ever eaten. That includes in London. Namaste Kitchen in Shelburne opened four months ago and is to die for. The aroma of spices wafting out the front door will tempt all five senses. Beautiful and clean. Tastefully appointed large restaurant with bar. BYO wine. Please note that everything is prepared from scratch and takes time. Don't be in a rush to dine. They were understaffed by two tonight and jam packed, even seating a couple at 9pm. Thankfully, every customer seemed calm and relaxed. People know to wait for great food. No one eas disappointed. We have copious leftovers. Lunch tomorrow will be fantastic. Very reasonably priced. Well worth the wait. I'll definitely be back and see momos and Thalis in my future.

Best Himalayan/Nepalese food I've ever had in my life!!! I have gone back twice in one week and there's nothing I haven't liked. The chow mein is so good and is seasoned perfectly. The fried and steamed momos are incredible. All the sauces for all the curries are so addicting. Samosas are like none I've ever had. This place covers all my spicy & savory cravings and makes me want to travel to Nepal.

A couple things before the review. Samosas - my preference is potatoes and peas. I think a peas' texture and flavor works better with potatoes than do garbanzos. Spice - I've been to 7 different full Indian or partial Indian restaurants in Vermont and this may be a Vermont thing. In California many Indian restaurants have 4 levels - mild, medium, hot, Indian hot. Here in Vermont it seems to be mild only lol. I prefer my Indian food medium to hot. On to my review: Mango lassi - handmade, homemade. A little sweet, slightly tart - exactly the way a lassi should be. Perfection. Jasmine rice - plain white rice, light, fluffy, well made. No spice to enhance flavor. Butter naan - airy, lightly chewy, cooked dark brown to charred in some places which is perfect. Daal soup - after the lassi, my favorite part of the meal. Flavorful, savory, not spicy. I'd make a meal of this with some rice and naan and would be perfectly happy with it! Samosas - good flavor, I think they put lemon juice in their filling as it was a touch tart/sour. Personal preference as mentioned above but this may be a northern Indian thing or a Nepali thing with the potato/garbanzo filling - that's the third time I've seen it in this area. No complaints, just a preference. Butter chicken - had a smoky flavor to it which I really enjoyed. I've had smoky butter chicken before and it's fairly rare but I like it. This didn't seem to be a tomato based sauce so it didn't have that subtle sweetness to it that you'd expect from butter chicken. To me the flavoring leaned towards tikka masala and not butter chicken. Good value and the price is in line with the amount of food you receive. Overall a very positive experience. I will go back.

Updated review following many* visits: this is now my favorite restaurant in town! It's the best and is an overlooked absolute hidden gem! Absolutely phenomenal* food, with excellent friendly service, and a nice more quiet/peaceful atmosphere every time. Their prices are also very good, especially for the quality of the food they serve; you can really tell that they use great quality ingredients and the atmosphere is also exceptional. It's the perfect restaurant for socializing with guests/visitors or for a casual sweet date. Very easy parking too. Everything we have ordered (around 1/4th of the menu at this point) has been delicious. If I had to pick stand outs by my own personal taste preferences, I'd highly recommend the: Paneer Saag, Tikka Massala, Butter Chicken, chili vegetable momos, samosa chaat, mixed veg pakora, and Dal Mahkani. Of course, the garlic naan as well. The cauliflower manchurian is also phenomenal and is a particularly great choice shared in a larger group (e.g., 3 or more); it's delicious and a little goes a long way. I've only taken pictures going there once, so I'll need to do better and take more pictures to add!

While the store has a great selection of grocery items, produce, local cheeses, meats & a deli. I am continually confronted by the worst in customer service, and just plan rudeness. I would say the meat dept. is the worst! The two men I regularly encounter are curt, and always annoyed by any question I might have re: availability of something i don't see in the case, or some other benign inquiry. The other day the younger of the two was making some adjustments with shelving in the cold meat case, to the right of the small opening where one can ask a question or order something. He was iritated even before I inquired about a date on defrosted shrimp- Frankly he was really annoyed with just being interrupted- saying "Oh shit" To Me. What followed was really unpleasant as he rushed away from his case to where i was, with an response I can't even recall-given his behavior. While I cannot be any more specific about other experiences in this store, I will say it is not a welcoming experience-I never feel good while there, or when I leave-no interaction that leaves me feeling positive with shopping there. A sad thing for this particular small Vermont Market, as my experience in others is overwhelmingly positive.

This time three people were working behind the counter and not one of them even appeared to notice. This is the second experience of this nature at this particular establishment At the deli counter. I should not have to holler out to staff behind the counter to be acknowledged and waited on. Unfortunately this business lost my business today and I won't be back. This year it returned to…read moreShelburne Farms south of Burlington for the first time since 2019; the most recent festival was held in Greensboro in 2023, and there was no festival in 2024. So it was a big welcome back in 2025, and the event -- held inside the newly reconstructed, enormous breeding barn at Shelburne (please see the photos) -- was quite a big deal. There were perhaps 50 or so vendors, and the general public was limited to just 1,000 tickets, which made it, unexpectedly, something of an elite event. (Tickets were sold out months in advance.) The festival offers a wonderful opportunity to meet the these dedicated craft cheesemakers and, best of all, sample their work. And wow, did we ever sample their work!!! We won't go detailing each of those cheeses, but please know there were many and not a one disappointed us. Other vendors offered everything from ciders to jams, sauces, charcuterie and -- believe it or not -- peanut butter. At a cheese festival? The atmosphere is inviting and rewarding for the makers and the public, and assembling such a large and skilled group of crafters in one place makes for an extraordinary moment. We congratulate the executive director of the cheese council, Hale, who did a splendid job. A couple of small issues for us: while there were a few chairs outside the barn there was almost no seating at all inside, and there was space which could have been worked fine, we think. And after a hour of walking around, a sitting break could have felt good. Also, there were food trucks selling ice cream, Indian food, cookies from King Arthurs, but they were placed placed pretty far from the barn, requiring a bit of walking. We also enjoyed the band playing outside, but they too were a bit moved from everything else. And then, it was hot -- near 90, but that's just the way it was. And for attendees, it was clearly not the temps defined this dazzling event. We're ready for 2026!

My wife and I recently had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Vermont Cheesemakers Festival as…read morevolunteers a couple of weekends ago. We had signed up to help and it turned out to be so much more than just service. Right off the bat, the food was extraordinary, what a spectacular showcase of Vermont's artisanal cheese scene! Samples ranged from classic cheddars to Gouda to pepper jack, all crafted by passionate local cheesemakers. We also discovered delightful pairings, cheese and jam was a Hit; I wasn't expecting it, but "jam is my jam," as one participant aptly put it. lol As for service, the volunteer coordination was seamless. Helping vendors set up before the crowds arrived gave us a chance to chat with cheesemakers, learn about each cheese's story, and feel truly connected to their craft. The staff were friendly, organized, and the energy was warm and welcoming. The ambiance was downright charming. Set at historic Shelburne Farms' Breeding Barn, the festival unfolded on a perfect summer day - sunny, scenic, and relaxed. It felt like celebrating cheese right in the heart of verdant Vermont, complete with the buzz of fellow cheese lovers, artisan vendors, and farm surroundings. A bit of history: This year marked the 13th Annual Vermont Cheesemakers Festival, hosted by the Vermont Cheese Council at Shelburne Farms. The festival is rooted in Vermont's rich artisanal cheese tradition, highlighting how the state leads the nation in cheesemakers per capita. It originally began as a celebration of the state's cheesemaking success a sort of "cheese carnival" introducing the public to local producers and their craft. Notably, this year's event was completely sold out tickets were snapped up well in advance, and none were available at the door. Even the general admission waitlist was full, and volunteer slots had closed early too. This level of demand speaks volumes about how beloved and highly anticipated, the festival has become. Volunteering at the Vermont Cheesemakers Festival was a fantastic decision. The combination of exceptional cheese, purposeful and friendly service, and a picturesque setting made for a memorable afternoon. It's clear why this sold-out event has become a beloved summer tradition. We'll definitely be back, with or without volunteer duties to savor more of what Vermont's incredible cheesemakers have to offer!
