My son then tried to look for a picture on his phone because Stiles didn't understand and both him and another barber seemed very annoyed that he didn't get in the chair fast enough. As a customer, I believe it is important that you are heard especially because it's your hair and you are a paying customer! My son didn't have a very good experience at all and I will not be coming back again. He was very unhappy with his haircut because Stiles didn't want to take the time to listen or try to understand what he wanted. I cancelled my appointment that I had with my other son. If you have long hair and don't need a fade, I suggest going elsewhere.

Faded Up had a lot of great reviews so we went for a walk-in haircut. He ended up in "Stiles" chair. We brought three photos and discussed likes/dislikes about each. We clearly explained my son wanted an easy style and nothing too trendy. As the haircut progressed, Stiles kept combing it over with a hard part and we had to point out several times that was not what my son wanted. It was evident Stiles was angry and frustrated by the end, and he loudly advised me from across the shop that next time we should know what we want before we come in. I guess photos are not enough? In the end the haircut was just ok. I had to even up the sides when we got home, as well as clean up a spot that was nicked and continued to bleed into the evening. Neither of my sons liked the heavy R&B channel playing on the TV, and I was surprised by a couple videos featuring dancers in strip clubs grinding their barely-dressed pelvises in men's faces. I'm a fairly open and progressive parent, but I didn't feel the "entertainment" was appropriate for a business that is said to be a good place to take children years younger than mine. The end result? My sons asked me to brush up on my haircutting skills because they don't want to go to a barber shop again. I understand how this place could appeal to some though, and I hope they continue to be successful.

They say they work with younger kids, boys specifically, yet the videos on their TV with mostly naked women, Rap videos full of women being objectified and general decor around this place that seems to encourage a "macho men only" feel, is not a place for younger men or boys. The language was extreme as well, being used by the stylist, and before I get some, "Oh you're a Karen" or, "Oh you're a religious nut" gaslighting or deflection, I am neither. Nothing wrong with being a progressive-minded person who feels general decent behavior is not a bad thing and good role modeling for younger people is nice. These guys are man-children running a shop that has no class.

I also love the shop logo and the music playing inside which all contribute to the good vibes at this location. It reminds me of something you'd expect to find in downtown Portland, like in the Pearl. The barber/owner is an incredible human being who is kind, welcoming and thoughtful. Positive vibes all around. As the wife of someone who gets their haircut on a regular basis, it's nice to be able to join my husband for his appointments and feel totally welcome in the barbershop. There is a comfortable waiting area with a tv, magazines, books and puzzles to occupy yourself while you wait. Then you can stroll through downtown, shop & get some local eats. Sirena is either too fragile to…read morereceive any feedback, unable to do any other sort of haircuts beyond what she knows, or just doesn't care enough to give you the cut you ask for. Both myself, our 10 year old and 2 year old have given her multiple tries and every time she is not open to hearing anything about the way she cut our hair. The final straw was today when my wife, walking on eggshells, asked if she could trim the back of our 2-year old's hair so he had less of a mullet. With a rude frustrated tone told my wife that it wasn't a mullet and that she couldn't without tapering it. My wife asked her to try, our little guy wiggled and Sirena snapped at my wife saying "see, now I have to take the buzzers" which she did abruptly and overly forceful. The cut now looks fine, but she was SO rude, disinterested in hearing anything and asked us to not come back simply because we asked her if she could cut our boy's hair like we would like it. We weren't asking for anything crazy, just more a clean look than long and mullety. She left my cowlick really long which always stands up even after I asked her to take it short. When I asked her at the end of the cut to take it shorter she said that she 'couldn't' in a really short, unapologetic, and condescending tone. I'm glad that she's local, stays pretty busy and maybe she doesn't need our business, but it's sad that someone feels they have to treat others in that manner. I would however never recommend others to go there unless you're willing to sit down, shut up about your hair, and walk out with whatever she wants to do. On an aside, I have NEVER felt out of place or negatively judged for speaking another language in public, but as soon as I opened my mouth speaking French to my children, I instantly felt a tenser atmosphere and both she and the other woman who cut hair didn't speak to me or my kids the rest of our visit besides formalities.

She said yes, and jokes that it's only hair and it'll grow back. I also told her I'm growing my long moustache out and only clean it up. What I ended up with was a jacked up butcher job! She said "now you can see your lips. I guess so... It's 1/2 above my damn lip! And the beard is jacked up too!! I honestly feel I now need to shave it all off and start over. 3 years down the drain. If you've been a longtimer, apparently you're grandfathered in... and there's a lot of grandfathers in the waiting room. If not, you can't join them on the slow march to the grave.
