Yesterday I attended the "Nails For You" location at the Five Points Mall at 285 Taunton Road East in Oshawa, Ontario. I went for a pedicure as well as to have my old gel nails removed and new ones put. I was told the total cost would be $60 with no tax since I was paying cash. I was directed to the back to have my pedicure first. The technician told me to put my feet in the water and then disappeared.
Two chairs over from me there was a lady also having a pedicure. She had her 2 children with her (2 girls approximately 4 and 7 years old) From the time I sat down her 2 girls were disruptive. They were running around and sliding on the chairs used by the technicians. The mother demanded the TV be turned to annoying cartoons for her children, but this did nothing to placate them. They continued screaming at the top of their lungs, and then the older child figured out how to turn on the water for the foot basin in the empty chair next to me. The oldest child splashed water all over me, but neither the mother nor the staff reacted at all. The older child then showed the younger child how to turn on the water, and they proceeded to turn on the water on other empty basins. Again the staff said nothing. The older one then again took the faucet which can extend on a hose (similar to one in a kitchen) turned and sprayed me, getting me soaked. I reacted by yelling loudly and was shushed and admonished by the technician doing the mothers manicure.
I was about to leave when my technician appeared. I asked for a towel to dry off but was told "the towels are not used for that". She said she would take care of me and started the pedicure. However she also played and talked with the younger child, who was busy putting the technician chairs beside the pedicure chairs, meaning I would have no room to step down when I was done. Again the staff did nothing. The mother was screaming at her older child to "take off my shoes before you snap the heel" The mother was lead away for her manicure at another area of the salon but her children continued to play on the chairs, run around and scream.
The younger child took my shoes (my feet were drying) and when I yelled for her to give them back another technician told me to stop being mean. When my feet were dry I was called to another area but I had time getting out of the pedicure chair since the technician chair the younger one moved was in the way. When I was called for my pedicure I had to wait a because the older child was sitting in the client chair and didn't want to move because she wanted to sit next to her mom. When they finally got her to move the technician put on a movie where a monster was killing people which scared the kids and made them upset. The mom yelled at them so they went to the area behind the chairs and were running around. Meanwhile my nails were soaking in acetone so they could be removed. The children were playing with the small nail paint brushes and the younger one saw a bottle lotion on the table beside me. She went to grab it and hit the acetone bowl, which spilled the acetone all over me (my lap, chest, legs arms and feet. Again the staff did nothing even though they saw it. One tech brought me a small towel but when I asked them to put more acetone in the bowl she said there was still enough, even though there wasn't any.
The two girls were using the nail brushes to paint lotion on themselves and everything else in sight. They were also screaming, climbing on the hand washing sink and playing with the blinds. The staff did not ask the mother to control her children and told me SEVERAL if I didn't like it that it was my own problem. Finally I threatened to leave, even though my nails were only half off, so I was taken to a table in another area. The children continued to run around yelling and making a mess all over the salon. The tech finished soaking off my old nails, put the tips on with barely any glue glue, put a thin layer of powder gel on and then painted my nails, fingers and cuticles with a thick gel topcoat (nowhere close to the proper procedure for gel nails) It was also noticed at that point that the tech who had done my pedicure had not put on a topcoat leading to the polish already being chipped. I didn't care because I just wanted to get out of there. When I went to pay they told me it was $85 plus tax even though they had told me $60 at the start. I had to argue with them over what price to pay and refused to pay it. The staff member I argued with had also admonished me again for not being nice to the young girls.
This was the worst nail salon experience I have ever had and I will never go back to any Nails For You salon ever again, even if it was free. If I could give it zero stars I would. read more
