My sister and I decided to get mani/pedicures on the spur of the moment late on a Saturday afternoon. Neither of us had had much luck finding a salon we like in the area, so we were looking for some place new. I remember reading about Nailsticks, and since it's very close to us, we decided to try it. When we walked in, the place was really crowded, and I didn't think they'd be able to take us. But, they did. We noticed that, unlike other salons, there was a lot of talking going on. The vibe here was really good -- all the technicians seemed happy and chatty. And, I'm not sure how P.C. it is to say this, but it was nice that we could understand them; at too many salons, the techs talk to each other in their native language and in hushed tones, and it just feels awkward. But here, they chatted with each other, they chatted with us, and they actually seemed to like what they were doing. We started with pedicures, and while that was being done, they also started working on our nails. I'd done a gel manicure myself at home, and I apparently put on way too many layers, so that even after soaking my nails in foil & acetone for a long time, it didn't come off. I apologized, but they just smiled and said not to worry about it. My sister was intrigued by powder manicures, so she got that. I wanted color-changing polish, so I got a shellac. The tech who did my nails (Mimi, maybe?) also wanted to see how the polishes changed colors, so she brought the samples & dishes of hot & cold water so we could see them change. Because of my over-zealous gel polishing adventure, it took a long time to get the old polish off of my nails. Consequently, we were the last customers in the shop. But not once did they make us feel uncomfortable or like we were in the way. Instead, they just finished cleaning the salon and chatted about their plans for later, while including us in the conversation. My first experience....I requested a basic pedicure to include gel polish and one nail repair...Sophia serviced me; very personable and friendly. The repair was perfect and from inside of the salon the polish looked perfect too; but once outside, the sunlight revealed too many flaws: the gel was lumpy and polish was visibly on the skin around most toes. Based on the cost of $65...$75 with tip...the service did not match the price. My cousin and I went together, her second time. Her first experience was great. Her second not so good. Friendly staff. Basic mani and pedi, with gel polish that was lumpy and poorly applied. There seemed to be some confusion in price between both services. Either way, too many disappointments to constitute a return visit. Again, the service does not match the price. The inflation and consistency in price for nail services, in general, seems to be getting out of hand, forcing a personal decision on whether it is worth it. read more

I didn't have the highest expectations since it was the only place that would accept walk-ins after calling some 5 salons in the area, but I wasn't expecting it to be this bad. The nail tech was not friendly, barely spoke to me or even said a word to me (including "hello") other than, "is this your color?", "Shape?", and "your total is...". I am a visitor - from NY area - I didn't feel this place was as clean, and the tech people with whom I had experience, are not as caring as my home place. Also, I just wanted a basic mani, which is $15 at home. Here it was $23. The mani was good, but the place was super busy (Saturday) and the tech rotated between clients -- ??? I was told this place was better than a lot of local Michigan places. Sorry to hear that! Most of the tech people are from SE Asia, and I saw a few American techs, so I think those have concession tables, similar to hair salon chairs. That's ok, he won't miss it. Besides, he has 5 more that may or may not be maxed out, but you took the one that wasn't, you're safe either way. You walk in. It's huge. Your favorite size. The Asian at the front asks you "Hi, can I take your order?". "A double with cheese" you reply "and a manicure shellac." He's confused. He says, "we dont serve food here mam, but it may take 20 minutes wait if you don't have an appointment." Gears turn in your brain. You shouldve planned ahead. Now your husband's gonna think you're cheating on him. But the guy is goodlooking, and you may yet cheat, so you decide to stay. "Ok", you say. "Ok, do you want to pick out your color?" He responds. Fast forward about an hour later and you walk out with fantastic nails and memories of a delightful conversation with another human being that you haven't had in weeks. You feel uplifted. Like you could take on the world. You drive home, with a sense of determination and positivity that you haven't had before. "He will love me when he sees my nails", you tell yourself. Maybe, maybe not. But having nice nails couldn't hurt. You walk in the door, beaming. Your husband is sitting at the dinner table. Oh no. You forgot to buy the food. And you used his credit card. This review is based SOLELY off customer service. I stopped in based off the wonderful reviews I read. I wanted to get a pedicure. Upon arriving, I asked the receptionist how long was the wait. She advised she could seat me immediately. She took me to a bowl and started my water. I patiently waited for someone to service me. I watched a few ladies get seated at the bowls and their pedicures started. I gave them the benefit of the doubt these ladies had their nails done and were completing the second half of their service. Someone finally comes over to me and says my technician had to step away to get something to eat. This confused me. Why couldn't someone else come help? I remained and asked if she could put some hot water in my now COLD water. THEN, a person who I KNOW walked in after me was serviced while I continued to wait. I got up to walk out. On my way out, I heard a technician say "she's leaving now". They didn't even attempt to stop me. I will NEVER patronize this establishment again. Massage chairs and foot spas a bit beaten up and the towels rather worn, but everything clean and disinfected. I got Sofia (Phuong) did both my regular pedi as well as my gel mani. We chatted but she was never intrusive and she as well as the other staffers were more than happy to help find colors as well as alternatives when I was indecisive. I'm from D.C. My friend and I were in the area and we decided to get our nails done. I checked my good friend Yelp and discovered this one that has glowing reviews. I have to say that this place lives up to my expectations. We arrived in late afternoon and they were able to fit us in around the other appointments, which we were pleasantly surprised that we didn't have to wait. I honestly don't think this is normal, but some days luck is on my side! I did a pedi and mani with shellac and the price point was 55 dollars. Since I don't get my nails done that often I'm not sure if that's competitive for shellac or not. I know regular mani/pedi is mid 40s for most places. So I found the price acceptable. Everything was clean and well maintained. Neither of us got knicked or cut in any way. The whole experience was very comfortable. I'm so disappointed in this place! I guess they're only "experts" in dip because when I booked a full set they thought I wanted that. I clarified I wanted acrylic (which is the usual go to for nails for most people) and the guy I got said he doesn't usually do acrylic (I only found this out far into the process or I would have kindly declined). He should have had an expert in acrylic nails do them instead! So that was a shock already since I didn't know some couldn't do acrylic. Anyways, the whole time I was there I had to hear about how he doesn't do acrylic and how long they're taking (so now I know why he doesn't do acrylic, he doesn't want to put in the work to do them as dip is less time consuming). Then he kept talking about how they're super long when they're a normal length. At the end, he told me to be careful because they are thin for the length I chose. Another shocker! I asked him why he made them thin and he said that's just how he does them. He said no lifting or heavy duty labor while I have them. That irked me because basically I'm limited in my day-to-day functions. Then, I noticed that he didn't even get close to the cuticle so right away after I left it looked like there was growth. A week later, it looks like I've had my nails on for a month and sure enough, one is cracked despite being careful. I spent $61 for useless nails that looked old and now are cracked after one week. By far my favorite nail salon. I live in Detroit, but will gladly make this drive for nail treatments. When you first walk-in, it may seem a bit overwhelming. The facility is much larger than you would think and they are always busy. But they are busy because people know they do a good job! I can sport my shellac well over 2 weeks with zero lifting and minor chipping (and I have oily nail beds so I feel like mine always lift) Everything is clean and they have a great section of colors and the staff members are attentive and efficient. This place is AWESOME! I walked in early this morning and was shocked by the number of people already in the salon. Every single person (except my nail technician who graciously accepted a walk-in) was booked up! If that doesn't already tell you how in demand this place is.... I don't know what will. The staff is very courteous and friendly and will always attempt to squeeze you in or fulfill your requests. I observed how most of the patrons knew everyone working there or would ask where so and so was... you can tell the people working here are genuinely interested in their clients and vice versa. It's nice to see that level of hospitality, so to speak. I also want to comment on their selection of polish - fabulous for regular mani/pedis - ie. essie, opi and versatile selection for gel nail polish (3-5 different brands including opi, gellish, essie). The only thing I would suggest is if you're into designs to call ahead and book an appointment in advance since not everyone can do those. But otherwise, my new go to salon! I literally stumbled upon them and am so grateful I did!!! The owners- Linda and King are so sweet and inviting! I got a great pedi by Mimi! I'm always nervous to try a new nail salon by this one was suggested to me by a friend who's opinion I trust. I called late after class and was told they can't always accommodate walk ins, but they were able to make me an appointment about 15 minutes later than my original arrival time. When I arrived, I was instructed by a gentleman to pick out a color and have a seat in one of two open chairs. I have visited a few of the nail salons in the Farmington Hills area, but Nailistix is my new favorite! They do take walk-ins, but I would HIGHLY recommend making an appointment. They are constantly busy, the phone rings every 5 minutes, and there always seems to be a 45 min-1 hr wait for walk-ins. They also book up quickly, so make sure to call a week or even 2 weeks ahead if you really want a particular day/time. Also, they only take CASH TIP. Linda and King are the owners, and they are super nice and funny! Linda and Pai have done my nails, and they are both great. My shellac manicure lasts for almost an entire month without any chips or breaks. I have never had that kind of success with other salons. $30 for shellac mani, pretty typical.
