She is always so friendly, kind, and welcoming, and I love how easy it is to text her to book--usually every three weeks, but she's also amazing about fitting me in when I have a nail emergency. Her assistant Vin is just as wonderful: extremely kind, helpful, and attentive. The salon itself is spotless, with a huge selection of colors, brand new nail stations, and fabulous pedicure chairs that make the whole experience feel elevated and relaxing. I had asked for a almond french tip nails. I asked for the french tip to be smaller and she said that would cost extra. When i first walked in she told me that the clear acrylics would cost sixty because you had to paint the french tips when it did not say a thing about that. No air conditioning, no music, equipment old and junky. $25 for a gel color change. The file burnt my toes and so did the UV nail lamp. Gel polish was runny and needed multiple coats. Not impressed with the polishing job at all.... So bummed! Same experience I had years ago, decided to give another chance as I was in a pinch and needed something close hoping they got better with time. Nope. Never going back. Worst set of acrylics ever. I came in for a fill and asked for super sharp pointy stilettos and the lady kept filing down the tips and not the sides making them more and more blunt and short. Even though I tried correcting her, the end result came out insanely crooked, lumpy, different lengths, and almond shaped at best and don't get me started on the art. I got home and filed them and repainted them myself which was a slight improvement. Decent massage for the pedicure though. Definitely not worth what they charged read more

I really struggled with writing this but after going THEN reading the reviews thought I really had to for the sake of the community. Was a gift from my friend so felt doubly guitly but again needed to share. Good: 1) OPI polish which I love 2) for a nail salon not too tiny BAD: 1) when I walked in the first thing I heard from another patron was "I need some more rubbing alcohol on that" - that peaked my spidey sense, 2) Will include pics but now on day 3 after mani/pedi I still have an infection in my toe (sorry for gross pics but again full disclosure). She cut deeply into my toe when doing the pedi. She was going too fast and really didnt seem that concerned. Then she had me put my foot back in the water which I was concerned about because I had put my stinky feet in the before. I complained it hurt and solution was put in water, rubbing alcohol, back in water. I could tell that more complaining would not help. 3) she kept upselling even after the cut - callous removeable another $5 (I did), flower detail (not sure how much more), gel nails (no way- my friend was there to get hers removed that were done there) - blah blah 4) there was definately an "inference" that their english is bad. Please note that this is a "fall back" stance a lot of times when they dont want to discuss something. I have several bi-lingual friends and they even joke about using this a lot. If you have a problem please tell them and tell again when you pay. And also you can tell them "thats okay I can explain all on yelp in english". read more

Jenny has done my nails for three years and is very good. They look beautiful and last for 3-4 weeks. Husband also goes and enjoys his mani and pedi--tech also gives a good leg massage for him to help neuropathy. All are super nice people. read more

I have been going to this salon off an on for a while, mainly because it is close and convenient. A few weeks ago I was in the owners spa chair and was closing my eyes and resting. The owner felt the need to get my attention and see that I was awake while having my pedicure. Clearly I was relaxed and needed a little rest. I did not understand. I decided to still go back today for another mani pedi. The owner asked me to wait 30 minutes suggested I take care of my store run and come back. I did just that, returned in 15 minutes. When I came back she said OOOPS sorry I took someone else. WHAT?! Now I do not have the time to get my nails done before going to my evening function. The polish doesn't last as long, but again, I value the convenience. NO longer will I go NOR recommend Nail Design near the Ralphs Store in Carlsbad. Probably the worst manicure I've ever received. Very rushed (she made me put both my hands in the UV light at the same time--they barely fit without getting burned and my knuckles came out bright red), the color is lumpy and uneven and the shape is disgusting. I would go back and make them redo it but i don't want to risk getting another crappy manicure even if it is free! Oh and i almost forgot...THE GEL STARTED COMING OFF AFTER ONE DAY!! Never ever come here. **update** when i went to get them fixed at another salon, they were so bad i had to get a whole new set bc the shape was so messed up. The guy started showing them to everyone else in the salon and they were all shocked. And to put the cherry on top...they gave me a fungus. This is my favorite place to go to get my nails done! Jenny, the owner, is so nice and really good at what she does. Everything is clean inside and sanitary which is a must. I came here while on vacation nearby-- It was clear to me that the owner has a set of regulars and probably does a good job. I had a pedicure and powder manicure from two other employees there. My pedicure was less than good-- very fast including a 2 minute foot rub that she did AFTER my nails were painted. That was a first for me. My husband said my toes looked as though they were painted by a 4 year old. My manicure took almost two hours and I wish I could say it was because she was so detailed-- it was more that she was obviously in training as the main lady inspected her work 3 times throughout and did her best convincing job that it was beautiful. I said I only wanted them filed a little bit but by the time she was done they were significantly shorter. The nail beds were not filed well so after a week of growth there are huge mounds where the powder starts and several are lifting. I just think if you're going to get someone in training you should get a warning and/or discount. Either get the owner (Vicki) or go somewhere else-- there are certainly nicer places in the area for the same price. read more

I thought I'd give this place a shot but I think it was a mistake. I won't focus on the other annoying distractions going on in the salon, I'll just give a review about one! "Mr. Pedicure man" basically molested my legs. Oy vay! I am not sure what the 'safe zone' is for a CALF massage but what I got was a past-my-knee rub. Oh this place is bad. I have tried to give it a chance because it's so close to my house. But today was my 3rd bad experience. I Could do a better job. The polish is super bumpy. And the over all pedicure was super bad. I so wish it was better but I won't go again. The staff is also very unfriendly. Was coming here for a couple of years, left for a year and then returned. The tech I had for all the time was always quite condescending but after going back to her, I found that she was not very nice to me for the last couple of months. She's always annoyed when I keep asking her not to file a certain toe nail the wrong way and that I should know she knows how do to my nails. However, she'll continue to file down the one side more which leaves the nail very crooked. As she was trying to correct her errors, she became angry with me and told me I should go to someone else. I left that salon and will never go back. Don't know if they care that they lost a loyal customer..... Terrible!!! A very rude and mean old treated me like a two year old and shouted orders at me. I have arthritis and she was extremely rough with me. She said I was American and too soft. Well that us hardly the case...I have battled and survived breast cancer twice and an quite tough. This woman stabbed her pointy fingernails into my cuticles all the while giving me the evil eye and eyeing my jewelry. This woman had a huge chip on her shoulder and was downright cruel. Purposely cheated a pregnant woman on price! Went to get a pedicure since I'm 7 months pregnant and can't reach my toes. I treated my sister to a pedicure since she has been so helpful. When I paid they charged me for a much more expensive pedicure than my sister received. I didn't realize I had overpaid until after I left and asked my sister which service she got. The woman who charged me was the one who did the pedicure for my sister so she knew exactly what my sister got. How can you feel good about cheating a pregnant woman out of $10? The woman who did my pedicure cut my skin when she did my cuticles and didn't even trim my toenails so I had to ask someone to do it when I got home since I can barely reach my toes.
