Mom and I came here multiple times despite subpar experiences solely based on 3 things: convenience, price and range of colors to choose from. This time was the last though. We always make an appointment but factor in extra time knowing they never take us on time. I made an appointment for 11:45 on a Wednesday and told the owner that my mom had to get to work, he said no worries, he has six technicians working today - great. We got there and were rushed to pick a color (as ALWAYS), and then they had us sit for another 40 minutes waiting...? I asked the owner multiple times how long it would take because they were taking in people that came in after us WITHOUT an appointment for pedicures and mom had to get to work. He literally blatantly ignored me twice and third time, laughed saying it'll happen like "magic." He didn't even care to ask when mom had to get to work. They consistently are completely disrespectful of people's time and appointments are useless here. The technicians are not very skilled and can only do basic nails and each time I've done almond shape here, I leave disappointed with the shape despite having asked for it to be fixed multiple times. The other owner does nails well, but very unwelcoming... doesn't engage in any conversation, until it's time to pay where she gets chatty when it's time to ask whether we'd like to tip in cash or the card... lol. He didnt even clean the corners of my toe nails (im gonna have to go home and finish it) he scrubbed my feet quickly, maybe 5-10 seconds each. For something like this, i mean ok my feet are clean, somewhat softer, and polish is nice, but nothing fancy! Id pay 15.00. But for $25.00 i thought my toenails would deserve to be cleaned better. But ok! I also had my nails freshened up, filed and polished. Would i return. NO! I CAN SAY they do have a wonderful selection of polishes and powder colors and the place is clean. I definitly could not bring my 80 year old mother, she wont make it up the stairs, not physically handicap friendly. The staircase is to narrow to even help someone up. I am mind blown of how poor quality this was. I told the technician that I sometimes get ingrown toes so to not shorten them too much but instead she dismissed what I said, used the digger tool and literally dug into the side of my toes and cut in an angle. It was painful when she did that and immediately I knew she cut in a wrong angle. Literally few hours later, throbbing pain and puss filled in grown toenail (INFECTION ALERT)!!! Right before a wedding no less. AND THE GEL TOENAILS WERE TERRIBLE!!! I usually do my own gel nails and I didn't have time so I went to get basic white toenails. Easy right? No! Literally looks like a kid used liquid white out and a top polish on my toes. I'm so sad. Super uneven, corners either painted on cuticle or completely missed. I can't believe Nail 27 doesn't have a higher Yelp rating. I've been coming to this nail salon since my high school Junior Prom, so it's been about 13 years now. I've moved from the area to Manhattan and Jersey City within that time, I've gone to so many different nail salons in both areas hoping to find a new reliable spot, but I always find myself back at Nail 27 when I'm here. It's always been my go-to and honestly always will be! Sunny and Michael are both so sweet, and are always attentive to my requests. Sometimes the wait can be long (even if you make an appointment) on their busier days, so I recommend going during the week. They do have specials Mon-Wed I believe, so that's also a plus. The salon itself is pretty clean compared to other salons in the area. They practice COVID-19 precautions well, and I've never, even pre-COVID, felt that they've been unsanitary or dirty. They always make an effort to keep the salon clean, even when they're super busy or overwhelmed. I'm sad I haven't written a review before in my 13 years of visiting this salon, but I absolutely LOVED Sunny's work today, and felt like I needed to praise. I'm the absolutely pickiest when it comes to my nails. I've left multiple salons completely unhappy with the finished product, but I can honestly say I've never had that experience at Nail 27. If you are new here you could easily misunderstand Sunny who I believe is the business owner. My pedicure took about 30 minutes and you can tell there was still polish on my skin and cuticles were not properly removed. The lady I had for my pedicure was friendly. I booked my nails with Sunny since others had recommended her. As you can see, they do not do nail art and I didn't notice until I left but I'm actually missing a line on my other hand. Sunny was friendly to chat to but she kept forgetting where she left off with my nails as she kept taking calls and talking to all the people who walked in. They obviously need a receptionist. Im giving a three because of the location, price and variety in color. Communication was poor as they dont really ask you what shape or length you want. I had been happily going to this salon for my spa pedicures for about four years, appointments with owner Michael. I get pedicures religiously, every four weeks through the year. I'm never late, I never cancel, and I'm a consistent 20% tipper, even to the owner which isn't necessary. About two months ago, I arrived for my 11:00 AM appointment and picked a polish and waited. Michael was just starting fills on another client but I didn't realize yet that he actually booked another long service in my time slot! He didn't want to tell me that because he didn't want me to leave and then he'd be out the $60. What was astonishing was that he didn't acknowledge me, and wouldn't greet me, just kept his head down. This was different than usual where both he and his wife would say hello the minute I walked in. Not this time, though, because he knew he was wrong, and didn't care. I was guided to a pedi chair, the basin was filled by someone else, and then there I sat waiting... 11:15, 11:30, 11:45, 11:55.... and still Michael would not even look up and make eye contact with me. I guess he didn't want to be criticized for not keeping his appointment with me. He double booked and figured he'd just keep me waiting because I never complain about anything so he figured he could take advantage of me. What he did was wrong, he knew it, and it was of greatest disrespect that even though I looked at him almost the whole time I waited, he made sure to never once look up at me. Another nail tech close by noticed that I was waiting for him for such a long time, so when her client left at noon, she came and began my pedicure. She was very kind to me, but looked a little miffed that I was left sitting there with no acknowledgement. After 12:00,.Michael came to my chair and said he was sorry and told me not to worry because he would "take care of me" when it was time to check out. So, now I was late for my dentist appointment, and I didn't receive the spa pedicure that I really wanted. When Gabi finished, I went to the register to pay. Michael was right on top of that, though. When determining how much I should pay, Michael hesitated and thought.... I could almost hear his brain cells colliding trying to think of yet another way to take advantage of the situation, and he figured he could get away with a pittance, so he offered me a mere $10 discount. I was appalled. He wasted my morning, ignored me, disrespected me, and then he thought it was all ok for ten dollars? No, that's not even common decency. I fully expected there to be no charge that day for the insult, the inconvenience, and the disrespect. I have a "points" card that they issue when you pay cash. Mine contained FOUR YEARS of accruals and I STILL hadn't amassed enough points for one free pedicure! I left and thought long and hard about this, waiting two months so that I could think without emotion attached in an effort to be reasonable and fair, and my FINAL contention is that he took full advantage of me and didn't care. I am there every month for a SPA pedicure. Over four years that's 48 visits @ $50 per visit, plus a $10 tip. So, after spending $2,880 there was still no free spa pedicure. And he really had so little regard for me and my continual business and still treated me with so little respect. I don't allow disrespect anywhere else in my life, and I certainly won't tolerate it here, by him. He lost a good customer, but he doesn't care because I don't think he values his clients. They are just cash machines to him. And that's the kind of man he is. This story has a happy ending, though. I found a salon just five blocks from my home, like magic, with a tech that gives a spa pedi that blows Michael out of the water. I can't believe it. I've now been there twice for their Luxe Spa Pedi, better than I've ever had in my life. And they don't burn my feet with paraffin that's heated up way too hot, or water that's too cold, or a massage so hard against the soles of my feet that it makes me writhe in pain before he stops. I've been coming here for about 7 years, and the main reason is for the pedicure. It's $23 and includes hot stones and paraffin wax for your heels. Anywhere else, it'll be more. I also get french gel tips here with Sarah or Michael (Sarah's work attached), and she always nails it. Full set $65, fill in $35. The only downside to this nail salon is that they don't really go above and beyond with designs. So if you're looking for trendy designs and shapes, I'd go elsewhere as most of the clients here come for basic gel manicures or french designs, easy stuff. I always stick to my french gel tips, so it works for me. When it comes to cleanliness, I have never had a problem here, and the salon looks clean, even the back rooms where they do waxing. When it comes to friendliness, Michael is probably the most friendliest, but it's not to say that the rest of the staff is mean, they're just focused on the client in front of them. No one has ever been rude to me. I can't speak for any of their other services, but if you're a simple gel mani and pedi type of person, this place should work for you. Make sure to schedule an appointment, as you'll be waiting a while if you walk in. With or without an appointment it takes 2 and a half hours to get everything done...who has that much time in their day to spend it at a nail salon. Started going here in the recommendation of a friend and haven't had an issue. They have a great price for mani and pedi for $25 Mon-Wed. They also have a frequent customer card where you earn points for every dollar spent for free services (200 - eyebrows, 300 mani ...). They really go above and beyond for the mani/pedi with massages and hot stones. I personally could do without but it's a really nice and relaxing touch. Gel manicure is excellent here - nice and thick. I got mine to last three weeks and my biggest issue was my nails growing out too fast! There were five empty pedicure chairs alone and only two customers getting their nails done at the desks. The staff was frazzled. Unfortunately, the place is cramped AF. It's up a set of narrow stairs, which isn't like a huge deal but guys. People are getting pedicures. It's hard enough to walk out if you're in a rush without stairs. Let's just say that the location can only improve. Besides that, the room is very small with low ceilings. As a result it feels crowded. The nail polish wall is right behind the nail drying counter. That means that if the table is full, it's only possible to look at 30% of colors. Poor design. Clear flaw.
