Would not recommend this salon. Leaving this review after some time has gone by as I really don't care to discuss further with the owner. Donna (owner) is not very receptive to feedback, is defensive despite pictures of evidence, and after reading multiple reviews I am not the only one with a negative experience. I had asked to maintain length (which was not maintained as this length was shorter than I had requested) and had asked for long layers. What I got was the picture below with choppy uneven layers and a shorter cut than requested. When I called the salon to complain the next day (leaving the salon my hair was curled and styled so the horrible cut was hidden), I was told Donna (owner) would get back to me. She did not have the courtesy to call a customer back. Instead I had to partake in a back and forth email exchange and I found that she was defensive. I was first told to come in and schedule time to 'sit and meet' with Donna and the stylist to discuss the cut. What??? What a waste of my time. Then I was offered to come in and have a 'recut' with a different stylist.....which would only further shorten the length of my hair. I was never offered a refund or partial refund and it seemed like Donna could care less about fixing the issue in a way that actually satisfied the customer. Overall, there may be some talented stylists there, but if the owner doesn't care about providing a great service then what's the point? There is no consistency and no care for providing and ensuring customer satisfaction. There are numerous good salons in NJ. The service here is great and everyone I met was friendly. If you don't like it they want to make it right. I went in asking for a "short in the back, long in the front" haircut without taking too much off. My hair was maybe 4 or so inches below my shoulder? Nancy cut my hair and checked with me as she went. At the end, I didn't love it so she offered to have me come back after her next appointment. Now that is what I call great service. It's awesome knowing they care as much about your hair as you do. I made the second appointment but ultimately chose not to go back. I didn't have the time and the cut itself was fine. Nancy followed what I had asked, not too much off while having it shorter in the back. I think the hairstyle I had a picture of just works better when it hovers above/around the shoulders and it was a cut I've had before but I was trying to compromise between that and keeping my length. "Go hard or go home!" as they say. They also spoke to me about coloring my hair and were very open and honest about the process and price. I look forward to coming back. They're friendly, knowledgeable, and, if at the end I don't like it, I now know they'll work with me to make sure I do. I have been coming here for years and today my husband was bringing my daughter. He asked I call the salon in advance and let them know what kind of haircut she'd like. I called 10 times today and the receptionist kept telling me she couldn't hear me and I must be driving. I was home! I ended up calling my husband to see if he can hear me and he had no issue. I tried the salon again and the owner, Donna answered claiming I cursed at her receptionist!!! If the receptionist couldnt hear me how could she accuse me of cursing!! I told her that wasn't true and it was an issue on their end. She then said my daughter was late so they had to cancel her appointment. Her appointment was for 5 and it was 5:05! I said she would be there in 2 min and a 10 min grace period is usually ok. She said not today as Jill was back to back today. I said I had been there numerous times and waited on Jill if she ran late but the owner didn't seem to care. Today Jill was apparently back to back. This also seems untrue as when I was calling earlier they said she was working in someone from her previous appointment. These guys are rude! And they lie! I hate to have to say it but after this many years it's a shame that this is how they treat people and accuse them of lies! Avoid at all costs. The only good stylist there is Jill anyway. This is how you run a salon business! I wish I could give this place more stars. I have been coming to D'Bella's for over a year now. Donna and her merry crew are the most courteous and professional salon staff I have met. I have been to many barbershops and salons but D'Bella's is my favorite by far. I am surprised at some of the negative reviews and I can only attribute their comments to arrogant and unreasonable personalities. Ridiculous requests and just plain old insecurities about themselves. I have always received spectacular service and the prices are extremely reasonable considering everyone is certified. Due to the thickness of my hair, I need to have my haircut every two weeks. I do not prefer anyone in particular because they all do a great job. Most of the staff remembers how I like my haircut since I am there so often. That is an added bonus. The salon is meticulously clean and there is always a small dessert and coffee waiting for you when you arrive. Waits are minimal as long as you make an appointment. Finally, I wanted to add that Donna or the D'Bella staff has never "bribed" me for a good review on Yelp as I saw in one of the negative reviews which stated they were. I have been getting great services from them for over a year with NO request for "You scratch my back, I scratch yours." I pay the full requested amount and tip. No questions asked. I would like to add that Donna is a friendly, understanding, well educated and self-respecting Jersey Girl business owner. She gives back to the community. I like that about her. Let me start by saying that I've never felt compelled to write a review for any business before this one. However, D'Bella recently opened and I've been troubled and somewhat frustrated by my overall experience, so much that I wanted to share. Let me start with the positives: - The salon itself is BEAUTIFUL. Looks completely modern (it was just constructed, so it should, but wow, it really is gorgeous). Very aesthetically pleasing and tranquil in design, which is wonderful for a salon. - The staff in general is very friendly, professional, and accommodating. - The prices are moderate for the area. Now, the negatives: - My interactions with the owner have been troubling and somewhat frustrating. On the one hand, I've been appreciative that the only two times I've gone to the salon, the owner wanted to work on me. However, she is... sort of awkward. You can tell she cares a great deal about the salon, but both times I've been with her, I've walked out feeling insulted, as she's criticized me as a professional in my industry, based on a total of about 20 minutes of having spoken to me. Now, notice I mention I've been with her TWO times. I went back because I thought the first time may have been a fluke. Nope-- she really rubbed me the wrong way the second time too, which I would think she would be careful not to do, considering how concerned she obviously is about getting customers in the door. - Quality of service. I've been disappointed that the owner of the salon-- while seemingly attentive and supposedly extensively experienced-- could do a poor job of something as simple as an eyebrow waxing treatment. She left a few hairs well below the brow line and left almost all of the wax still on my skin-- so much that my lids stuck to it while I was driving home! - Bribery. They offer discounted services in exchange for "five-star reviews" on service review sites like this one. I've heard of places doing this, but I've never actually seen it, and I have to say, it left a bad taste in my mouth. It made me feel that the owner/marketing coordinator doesn't place enough trust in the quality of service at the salon that they feel it can stand on its customers' own honest reviews. I have pretty thick and very curly hair. As many curly haired girls know, getting your hair cut can be a pretty traumatic experience. Most people just don't know what to do so they cut our hair the same way they would thin, straight hair. What happens is they don't take into account our texture or bounce and we end up with short, poofy hair. Getting my hair cut always makes me nervous and it's something I really don't enjoy. However, I was in DESPERATE need of a hair cut. I happened to be visiting my parents and turned to Yelp for a little help. I made a same day appointment at the salon with Donna, the owner. I crossed my fingers and anxiously walked through the doors. It was a quiet and clean salon. Modern decorations and friendly staff. Donna is a Jersey Girl. She's a professional who knows what's going to work for you. I gave her the run down about my hair and she immediately gave me her vision. She offered two routes for me, one that uses product and a little technique to tame my curls or a chemical "softening" of my curls. As wild and curly as my hair is, I really don't mind it and didn't want to go with chemically altering the curls. Donna used specific shampoo and conditioner on me as well as two products. She explained EVERY detail as to what she was doing and why. It put me at ease but also made me a bit skeptical because of all the times before people have told me they can cut my hair the "right" way. Well, I'm happy to say that Donna knows her stuff and her cut did EXACTLY what she told me it would do. The cut lays my curls flat and took some of the heaviness out of my hair. Along with product and a technique to twirl sections of my hair...I swear, my hair has NEVER looked this good. I highly recommend this salon and will be back! read more

I've never rated a place 1-star but there quality of work is unbelievably bad. I did both my hair and make-up with Donna, the owner of the saloon. Although, she was a nice and friendly person, talked up her services, she could not produce quality work. I have had professional make-up artists do my make-up for important events, and know what good quality is (well, I believe so). :) I couldn't find another place that was open early enough on a Sunday, so I got it done at D'Bella for my bridal shower. But, it was so bad, and had to have my sister RE-DO the make-up by a "professional" D'Bella saloon is a terrible MISTAKE. The only Pro I have is that the place looks nice and is clean. MAKE-UP REVIEW: The make-up on my face did not match my neck (or face). It was 5 times darker than my natural color. Donna said she used a certain type of make-up that she could combine to match any skin-tone, and her system is better than airbrush or traditional make-up. Her make-up was GARBAGE. She could not match to my color. At home, my sister wiped it off and put on power make-up. Fake Eyelashes: Poor quality. They were cheap eyelashes and she had to put glue on 3-4 times on each eye to make it stick. Normally, a professional make-up artist applies glue just once. The fake eyelashes started falling off within an hour, so I had to take them off. Eye Make-up: The color on both eye-lids was not even. One had more shine on then the other. She couldn't make the eyeliner even, and some sections of one eye had a gap with no eye-liner. The other eye has splotches of eyeliner. I had to have my eye- make-up redone. She said that I had to stay really still, which I did. I have done this before. There is no reason a professional of 16 years should not be able to make a straight line for eyeliner or make the color even on each eyelid. Lip Color: She said it was "glossy," but it was white. No gloss whatsoever. YUCK. OVERALL LOOK was TRASHY. HAIR REVIEW: The hair was ok. I expected that this would be good since it looked like a lot of people came in for hair styling, color, cut, etc. I wanted curls in my hair. I got waves. She pinned my hair up to re-created the curl look. She sprayed my hair with so much hairspray it looked like fake hair. And then at the end she told me not to worry if the curls fall out because they are supposed to. WHAT!? I am getting my hair done so they will last for my event. The hair lasted about 1.5 hours. I wasn't dancing. Just walking around chatting with guests and the HAIR DIDN'T LAST. I wish I never paid $150 for this saloon. I could do a better job myself. This is definitely going to be my new salon. I got the BEST hombre done here. I made my appointment with Jill and I absolutely loved her- She was so pleasant did a great job, was attentive and focused. I was not at the salon all day ( plus) and she was able straiten my hair which can be tricky( BIG plus). This is my second time getting hombre. I had it done last year at another salon and it was almost completely grown out by the time I made my appointment. My hair comes a little past my mid back and my natural color is dark brown/black. Now it flows flawlessly down to blond at the ends. She did a great job with the coloring and its blended better than I could have imagined (Nice gradual fade). I have to say this was done better than my first hombre and she was also able to fix up my layers. I have A LOT of hair and my last cut was kind of sketchy but not anymore! It's actually been a few weeks since I've gotten my hair done the color is holding and my hair it growing out so nice. I am still getting compliments. This salon is EXCELLENT for African American hair! I went there for the first time on Friday night for a touch up relaxer; I was very impressed! To start, scheduling my appointment was very easy and convenient...their hours are great for working professionals. Second, the decor of the salon was really nice...it was very clean and had a modern and sophisticated feel to it. Third, everyone at the salon from the receptionist to the stylists were so nice, friendly, and professional. I really felt like they appreciated my business. Forth, my stylist (Juana) was so great...she knew exactly what she was doing and treated my hair with care with I really appreciated. She used Affirm relaxer/shampoo/conditioner and a smoothing oil by Wella Professionals which left my hair so soft and shiny. I was so impressed I ended up buying a bottle of the soothing oil. Fifth, the prices are very reasonable which is always a plus. And lastly, the location is perfect; it's a quick 20 minute drive from where I work and a 9 minute drive from where I live. And, as an added bonus, there is a really good nail salon next door which I visited after my hair appointment...I highly recommend going there as well! This was a first experience in this salon for my Mother. I had read on YELP that they accommodate women who wear Hijab. My mother covers her hair and I thought this place should be the right place. And it truly was as great as I had read about this Salon. They put screens around the washing area while washing her hair and then took her to the massage room and gave her full privacy. The hair dresser, Laura, was an experienced and friendly Italian lady. She was constantly talking to my mom though my Mom's english is not that well and gave her a great haircut and styled her hair nicely and my mom came out with a big smile on her face. Overall the haircut and waxing the eyebrows came out as $60 with a 20% discount from YELP came to $50 without Tip of course. Strongly recommend this place fellows. read more

Liked the staff but poor service. I went for a blow shampoo and dryer. The dresser asked me do you need curls. I told her that curls don't last an my hair. She said don't worry. She is in this profession for 40 years. Told the stylist that I have a party to attend. Anyway, Gave her benefit of doubt. I came home and my hair was straight. Called them and instead of finding a solution to the problem they went straight into postmortem. We checked the cameras and it was great. Come on guys trust your customer and find a solution. Paid for hairstyle service and not blow dry. Highly disappointed. I could have gone to great clips or super cute and I am sure they would have done a better job. This is my first time at this salon. My sister has been here a few times and mentioned that they accommodate women who wear hijab. So I called, made an appointment, and moseyed on over. The salon is really beautiful and the people here are very nice. Nancy was my stylist and she was very gracious, making sure that I was very comfortable. They put a screen in front of my sink when washing my hair so nobody could see if they walked by. After she washed my hair, we went to the facial room to cut and style my hair, very nice and private. I have long hair and I'm trying to grow out raggedy layers. I also wanted long thick bangs that sweep to the sides. Nancy completely understood and started snipping away. She blew out my hair straight (no iron per my request) and then I asked her to cut a little more so that I kinda got a Farah Fawcett in the front (it's apparently called overdirecting). Today was my first and last time I will ever be visiting this salon. Walked out without the service after waiting a half hour. Chose this salon after really good reviews on Yelp and booked an appointment for waxing at 12:30pm with Jill. I even got a call the day before confirming the appt. Came in about 5 minutes early and checked in for the appointment with the lady at the front desk. Few minutes later another woman asked my name and appointment information, gave it again. 20 minutes goes by and I'm still waiting to be called. I ask the receptionist (a different one from the first two) how much longer it would be and after she inquires with someone, tells me another 5 mins more. Another 10 mins goes by and I have been waiting over 30 mins now for the appointment and have still not been called. By this time I am fed up and inform the receptionist that I no longer want the service and leave. This experience was beyond unprofessional and I wasted time waiting for a service that I never received. Not only was it a waste of time, it was a waste of money since I took an Uber there. After leaving, I received a phone call apologizing for the wait and was told that they couldn't find my name in the appt book because it was written small - I saw my name clearly when I initially checked in so I'm not buying this excuse. Unfortunately I have two things to criticize and it was one of the worst service based experiences I've ever had in the U.S.! First: I didn't get the color which I wanted: It was my first time there and the first impression seem to be pretty nice. The salon looks great, lots of space, clean. I asked for a dark-blonde Ombré longbob (light blonde ends) for my bleached blonde hair (I even showed them a picture of my desired cut & color!!!) What I actually got was an entire brownish-reddish color and it was definitely no blonde Ombré look! So ... I didn't say anything, that's my fault of course. But it was kinda like "funny" that the whole staff put a fake smile on their face while pretending I got a blonde Ombré look. And we all knew it wasn't! Otherwise they should better educate themselves in contemporary hair trends. Cut was okay, nothing special. Second (the crown jewel of ridiculousness): I paid $175 for color and cut. When I went home the salons cashier and the boss called me that I have to pay additional $65 because they forgot to charge something. They argued in a really rude way that they want their additional money. We never negotiated the price of the cut/color before getting started, so I paid the requested amount ($175) in the salon when I was done. They blamed me for their faults and wanted to pay me for that! I refused to pay the additional $65 and they said: "Excuse me!? You wanna ruin our Christmas?!" Yeah ... Excuse ME?!?!? Fortunately they dropped their demand, cause they knew they couldn't do anything because I have the receipt of $175. And they desperately tried to sell me their hair care products for purple-reddish hair, and I told them 3 times!!! that I don't want this stuff, cause I wanted to be Ombré BLONDE ... Oh and if I actually wanted the color which I got, I might be very disappointed too: the permanent color washed out after 3 weeks, despite using hair products (brand) for colored hair. Now I'm almost blonde again, lol. It was definitely the first and the last time there! Such a waste of time, nerves and money! Very disappointing! So I was sent instead to a lady (don't know her name). I have to say that she gave me the WORST hair cut I have had since years! She has beaten all records: tasteless blind bold butcher-style (rather no-style) extremely short cut, despite my clear requests. I would have definitely given this place 1 star (or 0 if was possible). Luckily they have one descent stylist for men (Kurt). Best salon experience I have ever had! I am a married working mom of 2 kids with very little time for myself. My kids are 9 and 10 and involved in lot of activities. I am a Controller for a private manufacturing company. I am also a Girl Scout Leader, the cookie Mom, a soccer coach and a Sunday School teacher. So I am quite busy but happily so. I came into the salon on Saturday April 5th to get a color and maybe a haircut. I did not have an appointment. I met Linda and she was really delightful. She really didn't have anyone free to accommodate me so she called the owner, Donna, to see if she was available because "she did not want to turn me away." Donna was happy to assist and was in the salon within 10 min. Donna is beautiful I must say! She is very professional and well put together and that makes me feel like she will do the same for me. I said I want something trendy...maybe some new highlights and a cut. She said you have 3 colors on your head maybe you should go back to your natural color and start again. I loooooove it when a professional gives you her opinion and doesn't just do something that was not best for my hair. She immediately made me feel special. She made me feel pretty even before she made me beautiful. She talked to me throughout the time and focused intensely on my hair. She took at least 45 minutes to apply the color to make sure she did not miss any spots. I have had gray hair since I was 16. I have never had a color that I did not have a few showing right after the color was done. I do not have one gray hair on my head right now. While I was under the claw (special dryer) in front of the sinks I noticed that all of the girls were washing their clients hair the same way. They were trained on how to massage a head while washing. I could not wait for my turn and it was fantastic. What a great added service to feel relaxed and taken care of. Donna then talked to me about my cut and the best products for my hair and how to keep it looking moisturized and beautiful. When I left I felt like a million bucks truly. I was beaming. I honestly can say I felt like I looked much younger and vibrant. My husband loved it too and without a doubt Donna is it for me. Also I would say from watching other clients and their hairdressers that everyone seemed to be treated the way I was. In summary, I always dreaded going to the salon and spending all of that time away from my family. It was just a necessity so I would do it when my roots were really bad. Just moved back into the area - VERY paranoid about going somewhere new, so I went here based on the good reviews. I got Dawn after asking for highlights and she was great. very nice and professional, but I asked her for a specific toner that my other colorist used and she did her best to match it but being unfamiliar with my hair, it darkened the highlights. I didn't notice this till I went back home, so I called back and she wasted no time telling me to pop back in and she fixed it quickly and made a note for next time to not use the same toner. my hair looks way better than it had in years - and she gave me a great haircut to boot.
