Standing in the former footprint of Pizza Politana at the Ferry Building Farmers Market, this tent has big shoes to fill. The prices are a few bucks more, but the pizzas seem a tad larger. More menu items, but the lack of descriptions is problematic. Kinda hit-or-miss, but good once you find the hits.
Prosciutto Pear Pizza: Wasn't aware that this was a white pizza and didn't think to ask. Would have been helpful if there were detailed descriptions of each pizza. The combination of cheese, prosciutto, balsamic glaze and fresh arugula worked very well. I visually noticed the pear, but the flavor of the very thin slices really didn't stand up against the rest of the ingredients. The dough seemed a bit too doughy. The crust edges were crispy, but the middle was limp. Also, missed the red sauce and it's not like there was a creamy white sauce in its place; just cheese on dough.
Pepperoni Pizza: So much better than that white pizza! Their red sauce was tasty and plentiful. Full disclosure, sauce is my favorite part of the pizza, so this really made me happy. The cheese was fine, nice and gooey. The pepperoni came in large thin slices that didn't get too crispy; I generally prefer a little sear on my pizza meats. The dough was a tad a limp and quite chewy. It will definitely flop if you don't fold carefully. Also, felt like they allocated too much unsauced dough for the crust.
Margarita: My favorite of the three I tried! Super saucy, which is the best part of the pizza IMHO. I finally realized the value of their thicker fluffier crust, it can hold more sauce! And since there weren't toppings stealing the show here, the sauce got a prominent position. The chunks of fresh mozzarella were nice too, better than the shredded kind. read more
