If you're looking for authentic Japanese food, skip this spot. The owners are Taiwanese and the cuisine is heavily Chinese-influenced. They even play Chinese guzheng music, which I can see easily being mistaken for Japanese music to the unfamiliar. I'm Taiwanese-American and have been to Tokyo... this place was an utter disappointment. We only ate here because it was right next to our hotel and we didn't want to walk far.
We ordered two set menus and a few dishes a la carte. Everything was heavily Chinese- or American-influenced. Being from California, where the California Roll was invented, it was amusing to see it here, but with cream cheese added (like in a Philadelphia Roll)... gross. Roll sizes were also tiny and not made well as they were falling apart. I ordered a spicy tuna roll, and instead of the tuna being spicy, it was regular tuna drizzled with hot sauce... so bizarre. My tempura udon tasted like a a bowl of Chinese traditional soup noodles. If we wanted Chinese food, we would've gone to another restaurant!
The only thing that was remotely tasty was their Grilled Miso Salmon. The miso sauce was way too sweet and odd tasting, but the salmon was grilled to perfection -- juicy, flavorful, and tender. Definitely recommended if you're going to eat here. read more
