Jasmin is Adelaide's quiet achiever in Indian cuisine. Family operated for 32 years, they have won…read moredozens of awards for their food. You realise why when you try it. The main dining room is in a basement off Hindmarsh Square. The surrounds are elegant, avoiding any kistch Indian decorations in favour of large artworks of local artists. It is not uncommon for Jasmin to be booked out on Saturday and Sunday, so it's safest to book for your number. While it is on the pricey side, it appeals to diners who love good quality food and wine. The wine list has over 200 options, as well as a good range of beers, spirits, aperitifs and dessert wines. The banquet is a great option, and I recommend it to friends. It consists of five or more entrees, and another five or so main meals. It means you get to try a range of dishes, when it's hard to choose just one. The prawn sambal is always a stand out, but (and I sound like a typical Westerner here) my favourite is the butter chicken. But no, really, it's amazing! They spice it differently, so while it's not hot, it's full of flavour, and the pieces of chicken are enormous and juicy. Every time we go there, there has to be some butter chicken on our table. If undertaking the banquet, when the small bowls of curry come out, you think you've been jipped. Try getting through just one, and you're filling up. Then add the several types of naan (the best are the blue cheese naan and the standard cheese naan) and papadums with chutney and raita, and it's rare to see anyone get through the entire banquet. You groan when the dessert menus come around, though it's worth ordering a coffee or tea, just for the delicious hazelnut/chocolate slice that come with it - one for every table member! I was disappointed that their chai is not authentic, but it's still a nice blend of tea, and a great way to finish an enormous and very tasty meal.

My buddy got the chicken tindaloo and it was one of the spiciest dishes either of us have ever tasted. The naan was also quite good and they have kingfisher beer. The atmosphere is somewhat on the fancier side and the staff is attentive and friendly.

Situated in an unassuming shopping block, only a couple of doors down from one of the best Chinese places in town, Zafran Curry Delights is one of my absolute favourite take away places. And they are open until 10.30pm for your after hours noms. By the time you phone in your order, put pants on and drive there your food is ready!! As creatures of habit (and mediocre cheap skates) we tend to order the 'you and me' deal, which comfortably feeds myself and my garbage-desposal-stomached partner for dinner *plus* lunch the next day. Included for the low price of thirty five bucks you get two mains, a large rice, 2 plain naan, a couple of pappadams and either a serve of chicken tikka or sheekh kebab. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CHOOSE THE TIKKA!! Of all the things that have been done to chicken this is by far my favourite, it's juicy and tasty and I could eat a bucket of it. Our usual mains are the beef vindaloo, which they will make extra spicy for you if you ask, and the chicken tikka marsala (which does have a small surcharge if you're getting the meal deal). Eat here. That's about it.

My partner gets the vindaloo and he raves and raves about it. The meat is always so tender and never over cooked. A large rice is more than enough and plenty leftover the next day for lunch! The naan is the best naan I've ever eaten! I love it!! They have changed their name to namaste curry delight now (well on eat now anyway) Do it! You won't regret it!

Regardless, I was overdue for a visit. Before you even enter the establishment, the delectable smells wafting out into the carpark would stir any palate. In need of a renovation, one would be forgiven to conclude not to expect too much from this restaurant. It is rather drabby and the terrible lighting does not help. However, the staff are friendly, courteous and loyal. I recognise one of the staff from my first time here. Always a good sign of staff retention ability when you see a familiar face. Water was offered and poured upon seating. Menus distributed, we quickly made our selections. Entrees arrived in the form of pakoras, chicken tikka and fried mushrooms. All was lovely, except for the mushrooms. I didn't rate it, because it was rather beige and boring. Still, the portion was generous. Continuing our sharing is caring philosophy, our mains consisted of the prawns masala, butter chicken, aloo gobi and beef vindaloo, accompanied by safron rice, steam rice and naan bread. Every main was delicious, although the vindaloo is considered extremely hot to most, so diners beware. Only order it if you can handle the heat. I'm a massive capsaicin fan, however, I found it a little too warm, which can ruin your dinner if that was your only chosen main. Note the memorabilia and famous signatures decorating the space. It is a good place to eat, will definitely return in the New Year with friends in tow.
