Continuing my journey of Rome through a local's eyes, I found myself coming to 'Na Cosetta for just the Sunday brunch I needed. First off, the neighborhood is incredibly cool. I'd wager that one probably doesn't wind up in Pigneto without a local guide. If Prati was my main squeeze, Pigneto was my side chick.* Thankfully, I was coming here with the queen of Rome. She knows her stuff and my camera and belly benefited from it.
After I oohed and ahhed at all the street art (formerly known as graffiti), we came inside to grab a seat and get some grub. The vibe is unapologetically hip but not unfriendly. The two don't always meet. We started our adventure by walking up to the attractive bar and telling the hostess/owner our intentions: we wanted brunch. She consented, gave us plates and some booze (I believe it comes with brunch). Now we're talking. The tables are small and close together. Americans, you will feel fat and giant-like. We all need to go on diets and eat better, realer and more nutrient-dense foods. Then we, too, will be able to eat cheese, drink wine and live long lives like the Italians. #weredoingitwrong
Once we had plates, it was a free for all. 'Na Cosetta offers a buffet-style brunch but rather than warming trays and pilot lights, you'll find long, beautiful plates filled with a variety of food: lasagna, eggs, potatoes, saladS, grilled vegetables, meats, cheeses, pastas & sauces... It was all fantastically fresh and delicious. Before I dug into my food, though, I made notice of the soundtrack. 'Na Cosetta is known for their live music program (the space was adorned with flyers and posters) but their soundtrack game was very strong. I felt extremely happy and much cooler than I should have been. I got seconds (because, American) but i stopped myself from getting thirds (because, embarrassed Roman friend). You'll want to eat to American exhaustion, though, so just keep that in mind. Now, while I managed to stay away from a third helping of savory options, I couldn't resist gettin' piggy with the desserts. I might have had 5 cakes. And, more wine. Whatever! Don't judge me! You don't know my life! #vacation #escapefromjennycraig Plus, I had, like, a ton of vegetables. I totally earned the sweet treats.
*Just kidding. I don't want to be splashed with lemonade. read more
