When you've got a hankering for a sandwich, and not just your typical two slices of bread or a roll, my gosh, this place really delivers in taste, speedy efficiency, freshness and value.
I had a craving for a Banh Mi ever since I saw a work colleague eat one. One day, very serendipitously (some might say, suspiciously), I hadn't packed my lunch! Luckily, the N. Lee Bakery is a hop, skip and a jump away from where I work. Unfortunately, so is it for a lot of others and it's popularity made me stand in a line wondering if I had time to order, eat and be back at work in the generous 30 minute break I had. But you guys, I was really hungry for a Banh Mi! This I persevered!
As I was waiting, I was impressed by the size of the donuts that were displayed in their cabinet and the reasonable prices attached to them. I made a note to self to try one another day.
I was finally able to order a grilled pork Banh Mi and was asked if I wanted chili in that - to which I replied, "lay it on me!" Well, not really, I just said "yes". I wanted to enjoy it, not have a runny nose over my Vietnamese roll.
A few minutes later, I was hand delivered my food and it was well worth the wait and $6.80! The house made pate was a lovely touch and the ingredients were well distributed throughout the roll. The grilled pork was tender, the coriander and carrot were oh so fresh, and the bread! The bread was fresh, soft with a slightly crusty exterior. The only thing that would've really made or any better is if it was one of the piping hot rolls that came out of their large oven. I just wish I had a bit more to enjoy after I demolished it in 8 minutes flat.
I'm definitely coming back here to try the other ones and one of their giant donuts! read more
