Disgusting, pretty but nearly all fat, pork chop... $650 pesos for nastiness
Chris R.

Woke up this morning and my first words were, "I'm really upset about dinner last night". Why? My partner & I were the only seated patrons in the place when the owner, Robert Solis, came in. He spent time chatting with the kitchen staff, looked our way a number of times w a scowl, but never so much as even smiled in our general direction. My partner snapped a photo of him because he looked so disgruntled. Yet, with each subsequent table (of locals) that came in, he greeted them warmly, spent time chatting w every diner, and even sat at one table for the vast majority of their meal. Us? We were never even acknowledged. We were clearly the only Americans in the restaurant and it honestly felt like a deliberate snub. Not sure how else to explain it. Most of the food was good (but not great) - but the pork chop was just gross. It looked awesome and had a great flavor but it was 90% fat. There was so much left on the plate that the server asked me if I wanted a to-go box. Hard pass. Jesus, our server, was wonderful - and the restaurant IS beautiful. Being able to watch the kitchen while at work was very much enjoyable but... For the cost of the food, I expect it all to be exemplary - Not inedible. Black onions were great as was the Manjar Blanco dessert. Duck was so-so. To note:We've eaten at Huniik in Merida as well, Mr Solis' other restaurant, and the experience was very different. Then again, Mr Solis wasn't there that night so maybe that's why it was so enjoyable...?

Being ignored by the owner...

Jesus, our server was outstanding. He was the highlight of the evening. Great job! Most of the food was good (not great, tho, especially for the price point) as well. We have also dined at Huniik, the other Roberto Solís restaurant in Merida. However... the experiences between the 2 was very different. Huniik was a 10/10 experience. Nectar? Not so much. The owner, Roberto Solís, came into the restaurant shortly after my partner and I sat down - we were the only seated patrons at the time, right next to the kitchen. He spent time chatting with the kitchen staff, looked our way a number of times, but never so much as even smiled in our general direction. Yet, with each subsequent table (of locals) that came in, he greeted them, spent time chatting everyone up, and even sat at one table for the vast majority of their meal. Us? We were never even acknowledged. I've added a photo of this as proof of what we experienced. I'm typically not paranoid nor a complainer but, we were clearly the only Americans in the restaurant and it felt like a deliberate snub. The vast majority of the food was good to even delightful, but the pork chop was nearly inedible. It looked lovely and had a great flavor but it was 90% fat. There was so much left on the plate that the server asked my partner if he wanted a to-go box. Hard pass. Jesus, our server, was, as mentioned, wonderful - and the restaurant is beautiful. Being able to watch the kitchen while at work was akin to sitting at a chef's table & very much enjoyable but... For the cost of the food, I expect it all to be exemplary - Not inedible. To note: I grew up in the restaurant business and I would've fired an employee if he treated customers like Señor Solís did - it was just a slap in the face. Won't be back & won't be recommending to others. Do better.

Great environment , food was great e.g cebollas negras must have. The service was not great , disorganized. Recomended if you are tired of eating local food. Very expensive by Mexican standards.

This place was recommended to me by a friend who is a local Chef. Prices are in the medium to high range. I ordered the Castacan Tacos as an appetizer and the Queso Relleno as the entrée. I also ordered a local Stout beer named Cuerno de Toro which was reeeally nice . The decoration and feel of the restaurant made me feel like I was in a resort that has the same look, very nice. The reason I'm giving 3 stars to this place it's because 2 simple things: #1 water is NOT FREE... It's so incredible to me that I can walk in to other restaurants with the same concept/level, and get water for free... even Starbucks offers free water. #2 there is no way to take your food home or to go... this is INSANE... the waiter refused to give me half of my plate to take home, he gave no explanation about it. The quality of the food was very good. I can't say it was outstanding, but it was very good and I'm a local. From the plates I ordered, the Castacan Tacos where the best. I feel that the Queso Relleno was missing a great tomato sauce, but the meat and the Queso were really good.

Definitely, one of the best restaurants in Mexico. The food is spectacular and the presentation of every dish is delightful. The menu offers a variety of dishes which range from seafood to venison. The dessert menu is very attractive too. It's a must when in Merida.

I've tried to contact the restaurant many times after my visit on 31.october 2017. They charged me the check 3 times to my creditcard so I have paid my check 3 times. Waiter said my pincode was declined and he tried another time, before I gave him another creditcard. My bank contacted me and said all 3 transactions went through. I can see they have read my message on Facebook, but there is no respons to my complain and therefore I can't give this restaurant a prober review. I was after told from another person in Merida, that this is a problem this place has a bad rumor for.

This looks like a pile of charcoal, but really it is a crunchy, flavorful crust with creamy onions inside- so good!

We had one of my all-time favorite meals here last night, and I've been to Charlie Trotter's & Michael Symon's and Alice Waters' restaurants. We ordered the chef's tasting meal and every bit of it was delectable, fresh, interesting, impeccably prepared, and beautifully presented. I love the local flavors they use in innovative ways. Treat yourself to a truly special meal in Merida.

Beautiful food. Dark but pretty. They accommodated me very kindly as a vegetarian. We finished our dinner and dessert and sat for 30 minutes with no eye contact, no inquiry, no coffee, in the end had to ask for our check. They apologized and offered Coffee. Too little too late. Chef looked kind of annoyed most of the time we were there. No greeting, not too civil. Bummed. I wanted to adore this place.

I had great expectations for this place, amazing reviews and huge recommendations, first let me tell you that service is completely horrible the waiter was late at our table for about 20 minutes, the food is OK to Good, what we ordered was not amazing, price wise is very subjective for some it is a luxury for others just a dinner, to me it is priced OK to expensive for what you get, and I am not talking about portion size but flavor (I did not even took pictures of them and I always take pictures), I've been at 3 Michelin star restaurants and street food places so I get it, but food was not amazing, otherwise the "Cebollas Negras" are amazing, you need to try this NO-MATTER-WHAT, they look weird but trust me on this, they are absolutely worth the price per bite. The dessert was really good too, I don't remember the name of it but it has some sort of coconut jelly, you'll see in in the picture, I might gove it another try but I don't think I am changing this review, I live to far away from this place but I am going back in a week so let's see...please fix the service NECTAR believe me you need it desperately.

This place was great. It was really exciting walking in and seeing the girl make homemade corn…read moretortillas. We also got a sheet to check off if we wanted mild, hot, or ex spicy hot sauce. You pick green or red and then what peppers you want them to use. It was absolutely delish. Especially when you put it on your homemade hot corn tortillas the chilaquiles were good, but not the best I had while I was there. I would have to say the highlight was the churros. They came out pipping hot and were simply fantastic with my coffee. It was a great experience and when I go back it will definitely be a place a go too. The staff were all very friendly and smiling. They had someone there that could speak English so that was a plus. Google translate can only do so much. Ha ha

From Chicago, first time at CLT today. Here are some thoughts about this hidden gem:…read more -This is a simple place. Simple menu. Simple seating. Simple food. If you're looking for fancy, this is not for you. -The service was very good! One of the servers spoke English and he was very friendly and helpful. -I ordered 3 pork tacos, and it came with just the meat. You can add 3 different salsas, onions, cilantro, and/or lime wedges if you like. -These are some of the best tacos I've ever had. Delicioso! Highly recommended!!

I had an initial offering of 3 and CA had 2. She found her two to be sufficient for a hot day lunch, washed down with Coke but I added two more to my plate. No options, except the menu also mentions Buche tacos which is pork stomach, when we ordered so we both got Crispy pork chunks and a tray of diced onion, salsas and lime wedges, which complemented the food well and added the heat I was in search of. No English spoken here but the young waiter was friendly and persevered with us. We left feeling happy! Total bill was 166 pesos (7 tacos and two cokes).
