Museo de la Gastronomia Yucateca is an iconic Mexican restaurant located in the heart of Merida. It is large, always crowded and always with a long line of folks waiting for a table. Food and service are great. We had great local dishes of pork, fish and chicken. For a truly authentic Yucatán dining experience, in my opinion, you can't go wrong at Museo.

A must in Merida. This is a museum/restaurant that serves up authentic Yucatán meals. You can sign up for a tour right before your meal. The service and guides are top notch. Don't skip the tour. It's with your while. It actually enhanced and got us ready for our multiple course dinner. The vibe is easy and the drinks are very well taught out. And oddly enough, the prices are very reasonable (for any one traveling from the US).

A lovely selection of traditional dishes and great desserts for our last dinner in Merida! We especially enjoyed the pibil, tres leches with meringue and all the shareable platters. Helped that there were menus in English and Spanish and every staff member was so helpful and friendly! A fun place for groups as well as solo travelers with their well stocked bar.

Wonderful. Great food and a lovely atmosphere. Staff was kind and helpful. While the pork pibil is delicious, I preferred the chicken. Moist and so flavorful.

Wow - ambiance, service, food - 5 stars across the board! We started with Coloradas (when in Mexico, mezcal is the way to go!) & ordered the pork panuchos as apps. Slam packed with flavor! While we waited for our main course of the Yucatán Grill for 2, we were serenaded by the mariachi band. The grill came with a super fresh strawberry salad that paired very nicely with the meats (beef, chicken and pork sausage). The museo de Gastronomía definitely lives up to its hype!

A very nice establishment. Service is outstanding, English is limited. 4700 pesos for 7 of us so not too bad, but pricy for Mérida. Food was good but there is definitely better.

My girlfriend

This was our last dinner in Merida. My girlfriend and I had eaten in many different restaurants during our week long vacation. All of them were very good in their own way. That being said, the food here at MUSY is absolutely fantastic. The alcoholic drinks are amazing- we both had two. Yummy. However, where the restaurant fell short was in service: our waiter hardly returned to our table after the initial order to see how things were and if we wanted anything else or even dessert. In conclusion, our last meal in Merida was off the charts even if the service was not.

NOT touristy. The best place I've eaten in Merida. Try the Conchita Pibil. They cook 5 hogs underground per day and season it with oranges. (No BBQ sauce!). Amazing! Great service and vibe.

If you're looking for a place to experience authentic Yucatec cuisine with a nice ambiance, this is the please. The servers were extra attentive and provided great service. I left with the temptation of trying the kiwi cocktail! It looked so good!

Highly recommend this spot in Merida! Atmosphere of the restaurant was very laid back with good music, and very fun. The service was prompt and friendly staff. The food was amazing, every item we got was delicious.

The food was mid. It was clearly a tourist trap filled with tourists. Our group (me and Mexicans from the north) were not impressed. Much better to go somewhere local. Save your money.

Chayitas- corn dough with tree spinach, lima beans, and pumpkins seeds.

Another great experience! The quality of food is still great, attentive and wonderful service, and same inviting ambiance! This time we got to go to the back yard and see the demo of how they pit bbq their meat. You also see older ladies busily making tortillas (which I really miss eating now).

Real cochinita and nice ambiance. The parking across the street is very convenient, but bit free. Service could improve.

I've never had a sit down meal here but the the main dining area is very nice and there is another section that is open to the sky. Customers are a combination of locals and visitors. It's enchanting at night watching the lighted towers of the old cathedral standing watch over the Merida night sky...sitting at a candle lit table with cool Yucatan breezes blowing. It's a far remove from the hustle and bustle of the narrow, crowded downtown streets and the lively plaza. I ordered a pumpkin seed-based salsa which was prepared table side in a stone vessel. My friend ordered the grilled fish with rice, pickled carrots, onions and sauces. Both were delicious. We also had nice drinks, red wine sangria, and beer. What was perhaps the best feature of the place is the excellent waitstaff who are bilingual, who are helpful with making you feel comfortable, who provide charming conversation and tips, and who are generally well trained in hospitality. Such a far cry from the dour and arrogant wait staff typically found in Washington DC restaurants. This is a good place for a quiet escape from the plaza crowd.
