Ventured to Xtup on a cruise excursion and was not disappointed! Being on a good tour, I had a sampling dish of customary Yucatán dishes, along with this gem. The meat was so flavorful, smoky and moist. Accompanied by fresh pico and guacamole, each bite was succulent. The level of heat was not overpowering-- instead balanced and complimentary to the meat.

Beautiful historic building. Amazing food. Great servers, attentive and caring. Eat on the covered patio, indoor or in the sunny Court yard. We had a great time.

A great chance I may be perceived as being bias giving this place 4 stars due to my love of Mérida. This is a mom and pop Yucatecan eatery that caters to the masses. We came here after our first choice was packed and glad we did. Arrived during lunch and within a short time this place was happening (and packed). Ambience is the typical Spanish colonial. Partly worn and weary. Plentiful menu options to choose from without feeling overwhelmed. Coming from the U.S., prices are fair for the amount of food you get. Good portion with remarkable flavours make it a good value. Staff is friendly, helpful, and attentive. Clean large toilets are available for men and women. For a true Yucatecan experience this place is highly regarded! "When a man's stomach is full, it makes no difference wether he is rich or poor." -Euripides

First visit here was 4 years ago. Today it did not disappoint. From the cheese empanadas to the chicken poc chuc and charcoal grilled steak, everything was delicious. The salsa verde was just hot enough and the pico de Gallo was so fresh. The wait staff are friendly and attentive. Will definitely keep coming back!

Sopa de limon and the best yet. Try it here.

The best sopa de limon soup yet! I like that the crunchy taco pieces come with the soup for me to add, as opposed to being added before i receive the soup. Delicious, friendly, clean, a/c or open air courtyard.

    The air conditioned salon

The best Yucatecan Food in town. Period. Better than the Chaya and set in a lovely colonial arched building with interior garden or air conditioned salon. The offerings are truly elevated classic dishes, if you've tried Cochinita, Poc-Chuk, Relleno Negro, Escabeche and especially Castacan, their versions are amazing. Another thing to love are their combo platters that let you taste multiple dishes, do check them out. Even the free "botanas" are worth paying attention to as are the fruit drinks. Everything here is outstanding so if you love or want to learn about our region's food, treat yourself here. Moderate price for the best quality, win win.

It's enchanting at night watching the lighted towers of the old cathedral standing watch over the Merida night sky...sitting at a candle lit table with cool Yucatan breezes blowing. It's a far remove from the hustle and bustle of the narrow, crowded downtown streets and the lively plaza. I ordered a pumpkin seed-based salsa which was prepared table side in a stone vessel. My friend ordered the grilled fish with rice, pickled carrots, onions and sauces. Both were delicious. We also had nice drinks, red wine sangria, and beer. What was perhaps the best feature of the place is the excellent waitstaff who are bilingual, who are helpful with making you feel comfortable, who provide charming conversation and tips, and who are generally well trained in hospitality. Such a far cry from the dour and arrogant wait staff typically found in Washington DC restaurants. This is a good place for a quiet escape from the plaza crowd.
