Went here for lunch on a Monday afternoon and staff were very fast and helpful. We got the beef goulash with bread dumpling and chicken korma with rice. Both were very tasty, hearty, and filling. It's about 7-9€ for soup and they have extras such as bread and pretzels. The servers were swapping out soup signs so I think turn over is fast here and you're getting fresh food often. There's lots of seating in sun and shade so it's a good place to stop during a downtown excursion. I really liked the food here and would definitely come back to try more things. They have an English menu posted near the cash register. Cards are accepted.

Good soup place, found the Gulash soup a bit salty though. Loved the Tomato Basil soup. Nice subtle sweet taste. They serve bread and pretzels as well. Good to order with the soup to balance out the saltiness. Prices are reasonable between 5 to 9 euros. Good soup pitstop with outdoor tables & chairs to sit down and relax.

Our train didn't arrive to Munich till late afternoon so we needed food. Münchner Suppenküche was what we settled on after dropping off our bags. It's located in the Viktualien Market and been operating since 1982. We dropped in on a Wednesday afternoon (around 3:00pm). You order and pay at the counter then find yourself a table. The menu is small with half a dozen soup options. - Gulash soup (€5,90) - beef, peppers and potatoes. Soup was tasty but salty and the beef was slightly dry. - Liver dumpling soup (€4,90) - beef broth with a massive ball (aka. dumpling) of liver. Broth tasted like something your grandma would make; homey and satisfying. The liver was excellent. Good spot if you want to try some soups but you won't be stuffed. 3.5 stars.

Great soup spot in Viktualienmarkt market. Has a selection of soups they do daily and also specials. Line moves fast staff is fine. This is a take away place but the do have limited seating. It outside and can get cold on certain days so maybe take a go. The beer goulash is solid as was the Thai curry. But everything I have had here has been good.

Quick service for a nice bowl of hot soup. Located inside the market area, you order at the window then can take a seat at one of the high tables. Soups seem to range from €5 - €8 and you get a decently size bowl. Great with a pretzel roll. We got the signature goulash to share as we had been eating our way through the market, it was rich and tomatoey with a slightly sour kick, seems like a goulash to me. The soup was full of meat, potatoes and carrots. A good hearty bowl. Seating is not plentiful but enough and people turn pretty quickly.

    Wedding Soup and Gulash!

Looking for something warm, fast, cheap, and most importantly delicious? You found the right place! If you want to get something simple and light, the wedding soup is the one to go for. You get a little bit of everything with your choice of broth. Soup is clear and super tasty! Dumplings were really good too! We also tried the gulash; really satisfying and the meat melts in your mouth. We definitely recommend it! If you're in the area near Marienplatz, come to Viktualienmarkt and try some soup! There's a lot other interesting shops in area to complete your meal: coffee shop right across from the Suppenküche, Weisswursts and seafood shops, bakeries...

I am a soup lover and this place is so awesome! We were visiting Munich on a cold and rainy day in December and as soon as I saw this restaurant I knew it would be a perfect way to warm up from the freezing temperatures. The restaurant is basically a little stand at the local outdoor market. They have a tented seating area with a few picnic style tables and a plastic awning to keep the elements at bay. They have a couple of heat lamps but with the wind howling and rain pouring down, I was still cold and wet. It's not a comfortable dining room, especially in nasty weather, but that's what the soup is for -- to get you all warm and fuzzy! There are a little over a dozen soups every day, and they do rotate out. Note that the menu is not in English so be sure to bring your translation dictionary! You can make additions to your soup too, like start with a basic chicken broth and add ravioli, or start with potato soup and add wieners. We ordered those two soups and were not disappointed; they were flavorful with the chicken broth being appropriately salty and loaded with a large portion of ravioli; the potato soup had uniformly diced, soft potatoes with sliced spicy wieners added to it. The goulash is particularly hearty and delicious. There are even several soups suitable for vegetarians if meat's not your thing. Each table has some cool German hot sauces if you want to spice things up a little bit. The prices range from around 3 euros all the way up to 6 euros, which is a true bargain price because these bowls of soup are HUGE. I am a big eater but one bowl was more than enough to satisfy me for the rest of the day. You can pick out a side of bread too, from a dark German rye to a regular white roll to a pretzel. It's a no-brainer to get the pretzel, you're in Germany after all! And since it is Germany they serve beer all day long, even at 8 am! Score! Watch out for the elderly local old timers, they will literally shove you out of the way to bust ahead in line. I get it, when I'm 97 years old I will also probably be whacking dumb tourists with my cane to get to a bowl of delicious soup first.

Most days I skip breakfast, but on some very special days (like the ones where I wake up in Germany) I like to really do it up with a monster pretzel, a hot soup, and a giant beer. Just the way Jesus intended breakfast to be. It was 8am, it was 8 degrees, and we had at least 8 more hours to be spent freezing our balls off outside while exploring Munich... It was absolutely a day where that monster pretzel, a hot soup, and giant beer where necessary. I walked up to this stand and inquired about their vegetarian soups and happily, they had 5 different meat-less options available right at opening. Yippee! I went with their famous ginger carrot soup which was just as flavorful as it was gorgeous. The presentation, especially for coming from what is basically a kiosk, was mighty impressive. So much so that I tacked on a giant pretzel (not made in house, but it made by another vendor in the market) and in the spirit of living in the moment, I threw in a big ass 8am beer as well. I figured that if the soup didn't keep me warm, the beer would be right there to kick in and get me numb enough to not care. The pretzel was as decent as a cold pretzel can be, I guess. I chose to repurpose it by pulling apart bits of it and dropping them in my soup like Bavarian oyster crackers. Which made the whole experience pretty perfect. The soup was outstanding and my meal was enough to completely fill me and my partner up... which was nice because it wasn't exactly cheap. Lastly, one of the best things about this joint (in winter at least) is that they have an indoor and very heated seating area and bar. Clutch in those mega cold Munich winter months.

Pancake strips of the pancake soup packed separately so they don't get soggy.

So, you feel like something to eat, not a full meal but still something hot; this is a good place to be. When you're around Viktualienmarkt, of course. They advertise with having the best soup in town, now I don't know if that's entirely true, but the soup is nice and they do have a perfect spot for watching people (like the photos illustrate) especially now summer is upon us. No worries though, they have heated and covered outdoor seating too! The times that I've been, I have to admit, I have only taken the goulash soup each time, so I can't compare the different soups. The goulash soup is nice, but for being the best soup in town I would expect a bit more meat and a bit more 'authenticity' (what the French might call 'je ne sais quoi'). There are a number of stock soups and some soups that rotate, depending on the season I imagine. If you are a regular or plan to become one they have a card for 11 soups for the price of 10. Also nice to know is that you can also get your soup to go! When the soup consists of a wet and a dry element, like the soups with pancake strips, they will package the wet and the dry parts of the soup separately so your pancakes don't get soggy before you get to where you want to eat your soup. Definitely a good alternative to the hot sausages and Leberkäse, but still definitely very süd! (Tip, this place is pretty popular so be prepared to wait a bit)

The only reason we had lunch at this spot was a table could only be had after a 40 minute wait on the curb. Max' is one of those few super efficiently run seated places where you don't need to feel obliged to tip or even order a drink, which makes the bill quite cheap by Munich standards. The beef soup ... is thin, consisting mostly of cheap noodles and watery broth that you need to make flavorable with the chili on your table. It's a weird niche they found here ... maybe their soupless noodle dishes are more savory, but I doubt I'll be back for more, and definitely won't wait for a spot.

Not sure how long it's been open for and I assume, less than 2 years. It's situated over two floors and the downstairs is in in a brick walled cellar. Upstairs there is seating for about 50 with a big bar and kitchen and there is an outdoor terrace for the warmer months. The menu is on a tablet and you can choose and order based on a limited set of options for drinks and food. The mainstay here is hot pot a new fad taking over Munich :-) Modeled after the traditional Chinese hot pot places with a big difference, way too expensive for what you get. There are plenty of choices for vegetarians and two broths to choose from. We ordered three different ones mushroom, curry and spicy (should have chosen the extra spicy in hindsight). You have to order a maximum of 12 things to go into the hot pot at a time and, each item counts as 1, like 4 scallops counts as 4 items, really annoying as you have to wait 15 mins before you can order the next 12. Each of the items is also so small that you barely get two or three mouthfuls in a serve. So considering it takes 30 mins to order a round and receive it at your table, it's slow going if you are really hungry :-) The app on the tablet was really annoying as when you are scrolling it randomly picks items and puts them in your cart as it's too sensitive to touch. This meant that each time we had to go back to the cart and remove items, before going back and picking what we really wanted, annoying. I much prefer the places where all the items are at the table and then you can pick and choose the order in which you cook and eat, not here. The app will max out at 12 and then you have rethink what you want. Staff are really nice and the ambience is also nice. They have a small selection of wines and mostly reasonably priced. Flavour is lacking generally and they kept diluting the broth by adding water to it which meant the hot broth just kept getting milder and milder. Without the sauces on the side this would have been a very bland meal. Also some of the seafood was frozen when it arrived at the table and the crab still has the plastic wrapping on it straight out of the freezer. The scallops were frozen when we received it at the table. Not sure many people would like that at all, we certainly did not. Dessert choices are limited but we did end up trying four of their Asian flavoured ice creams - matcha, black sesame, ginger and yuzu - probably more Japanese than anything :-) Ginger was the best and the rest lacked the intensity of flavour you commonly get with these in Asia and when properly homemade :-) The coffee was served almost cold and its never good when you serve an espresso like warm. At over €40 a head this is an expensive option, considering what was delivered to the table. I don't think I would rush back here in a hurry. Value for money is really lacking and there are a few other places that deliver much better flavour for less money in town.
