What's great about the Aares Gorge is that it can be visited rain or shine. You'll get a different perspective depending on the weather. Give yourself plenty of time here. It's about a mile walk (45-60 minutes) along the limestone gorge and through the tunnels. It's truly a unique experience that deserves a special trip. I've never seen anything quite like it. It really shows you the torrential power of glaciel water as it carves its way over time through the valley. There are 2 entrances with parking lots. We started at the west entrance and exited at the east side. There was so much to see in between (including a waterfall). There is also a view of cave entrances from the pathway that were built to house the military during WWII. Fortunately, they never had to use it. There are interesting facts displayed along the way. It's pretty much an easy walk until you get to the east side. There is more of an incline on your way up as well as some steps up the hill. Just plan your entrance accordingly if you have limited mobility. It worked out very well for us. We were rewarded with a beautiful view of the Alps when exiting at the east side. Our guide met us in the parking lot. You can return by train to your initial starting point as well. I also have one piece of advice that may be helpful to some. Don't even try to pronounce "Aareschlucht" if you're not proficient in German. It could come out sounding like another German word that is offensive. Lol! We were thankfully warned about it ahead of time. Just call it "Aare Gorge." Haha! I'm sure they here it all the time. We loved this experience so much!! There's so much to do here in the Canton of Bern. Make it a part of your trip when in Switzerland.

You can walk to any hotel in Engelberg from the train station. Trains go to Lucerne about once every hour. The town is cute and has plenty of little stores and restaurants. However, it's really small so not a lot to do besides skiing/hiking. Mt Titlis offers beautiful views and is a really nice place to ski. It's a bit tough for the beginners as majority of their runs are pretty bumpy and not very wide. However, you can still have fun at any level. Cool rotating gondola that takes you to the top is a must!

A…read moresingle ride to the top costed 92 francs and consists of going on a long cable car ride to and from the top. The ride up was approximately 15-20 minutes long. At the top level of the resting area, there is a hike to the top but due to the heavy snow I was unable to make it any further. There is also an ice cream shop on the 3rd floor. The ice cream is delicious in the ice cold weather. Overall, it was an amazing trip up and well worth my money. The view during the ride is unreal and absolutely worth looking at.

The experiences can vary from day to day (and season to season) since there are so many different activities and sights to see in the area. You could really spend a whole week here. We started our journey to Jungfraujoch from the Grindelwald Terminal via the Eiger Express. It's the fastest way to get to Eiger Glacier station. There are some amazing views of Grindelwald and the Eiger during this 15 minute ride. After that, we walked through the main part of town to take in the Alpine scenery all around us. There are many shops, restaurants, and hotels decorated with flowering plants. They could all be that beautiful postcard picture with the Swiss chalet and mountain backdrop. It's no wonder why this has become a very popular resort village. Even the views between the houses and shops were amazing. It was a dream come true. A place that we always wanted to visit together. A very happy place!

The bus stop is right in front of this place so it's super easy to get to. I got here a few minutes after they opened. So, there were quite a few people without being crowded. Except some of the people who were there were obnoxiously loud and it echoes through the cave. There are signs posted to be quiet but some people choose to ignore signs. There are parts that are a bit slick, some parts you have to bend a little bit as the ceiling is low, there are steps and stairs, it's chilly since it's a cave. Si, be sure to bring a jacket and wear the right shoes. Be mindful of those with mobility issues, they might have to wait for you at the restaurant (it's still a steep trek though) while you tour the cave. A lot of people would take breaks on the way to the entrance. Bring water. Each part of the cave is numbered so just follow the numbers - however the arrows can be confusing. I got to number 18 and didn't know where to go I ended going back to where I came from so I walked back to 18, walked the opposite direction and made it to 19-22 before exiting. "According to a legend, St. Beatus lived here in the 2nd century, who was believed to be one of the Irish messengers of the faith. After his arrival, Beatus is said to have driven away the dragon dwelling in the cave and then settled there to preach the teachings of Christianity and heal the sick." You'll see St. Beatus' cell, stalactites, stalagmites, and grottoes. You can have a nice view of Lake Thun from here.

The views from the top and outside are truly magical, overlooking a massive lake that makes the entire visit feel surreal. QUICK heads-up... there is quite a bit of walking and many steps, and some areas can be slippery, so it may not be ideal for anyone with limited mobility. That said, if you're able to do the walk, it's 100% worth it. A truly beautiful and memorable experience.

We based most of our Switzerland stay in Brienz and this was about 45 minute drive for us. The mountain roads leading up to the area are gorgeous. I guess because this is huge on TikTok you need to pre-book your tickets. Luckily I was able to book for a day out. I chose one of the earlier time slots so we could also spend some time at the top. Roundtrip price for adults is 36CHF and for kids 18CHF so this is not the cheapest activity but if you plan to spend some time at the top hiking and enjoying the scenery it's definitely worth it. Make sure to bring snacks or lunch because there is nothing at the top. If you plan to hike wear good shoes the paths are rocky. If you just want to walk around the lake and dam sneakers are fine. There is a bathroom and porta-potty at the top. Make sure to show up for your time slot early. You will need to park at the lot (free) and walk about 5 minutes uphill. If you miss your time slot you're walking. We found the staff friendly, helpful and spoke multiple languages.

Imagine how epic it would have been if we actually got there in the morning!??!?! This open-air museum can entertain you over multiple days. There are so many things to do and learn and see that it's a bit overwhelming. It's also just nice to walk through the trails and admire the houses from afar! There are many animals and lots of different tours in the houses going on throughout the day. Unfortunately we missed all of them coming so late, but we still had an amazing time. The food options seem to be limited... but we also came when everything was closing, so that was definitely our bad. I would absolutely suggest this to anyone visiting, or anyone living in Switzerland. It has something for everyone and I will certainly be back because I only experienced a very small portion of the fantastic open air museum!

If you are a fan of architecture/history/gardens then you will be in heaven. Our kids (12 & 14) really enjoyed it and there was regular spaced concessions so they wouldn't get "hangery". Loads of signage explaining everything, gardens everywhere, farm animals to be seen! You get to walk inside almost every building! Meet local Swiss docents doing traditional crafts (cheese, woodworking, rope making, pottery, baskets) there really is something for everyone! And there are opportunities to purchase crafts as well as food stuffs. Buy the guidebook and bring it home, read it cover to cover then go back again!

I'd say it's worth a visit for the Nature Park. There are so many different trails that lead you to Iseltwald, Schweibenalp, Axalp, Brienz, and Bramisegg from the park.
