    Staubbach Fall in Lauterbrunnen
    Karen V.

It's the iconic waterfall seen when walking through the village of Lauterbrunnen. It's named after the misty spray that blows away on windy days like dust. It's the inspiration of a Johann Wolfgang von Goethe poem named "Songs of the Spirits over the Waters." It was the very first waterfall that we visited during our trip. We didn't even attempt hiking up to the platform. Believe me, it's just as beautiful seeing it from every vantage point below. Just look up some of the videos online and you'll understand why it's not an easy climb up. It's steep on a slippery slope depending on the weather. You'll need waterproof shoes to wade through the puddles in the tunnel and along the steps leading up to the platform. Maybe this is the reason for it being a free attraction. Go at your own risk. Haha! But hey, you will get some beautiful views of the Lauterbrunnen Valley for your efforts. It's just a picture-perfect postcard view with the village in the foreground. There's even a second smaller waterfall that can be seen to the left of it (Spissbachfall). The cows that we saw along the way made the experience even more special. It was the perfect ending to a very long tour day in the Bernese Oberland region. It was a relaxing early evening walk!

Beautiful falls, but for us, much better enjoyed from below. The first part of the climb up is decently steep, but not too long. However, the last section once within the rock is very uneven and slick, making for a treacherous trek to the end behind the falls. There are rails on each side, but with the constant stream of visitors going up and down at once you've only got access to your rail much of the time. The end came suddenly, and waiting on those hanging out behind the water in order to squeeze by and officially reach the end wasn't worth it, so once we asked someone returning if we were indeed near the end we just turned around instead of even getting the behind the water shot. In our case it was a waste of time...the views of the falls from all around town are so lovely. If I'd known how the footing was and how packed it would be at the end I definitely would've skipped it. Maybe it would be worth it if not crowded? It's just a matter of if you want to say you did it or not I suppose. If you go, bring a rain jacket because there's a lot of spray, wear shoes that do well on slick surfaces, and gloves to help grip the wet rails if you aren't comfortable in those conditions. Regardless, lovely backdrop of the town.

Wow, what a stunning waterfall! Lauterbrunnen is such a gorgeous place, and this waterfall can be seen all throughout the town. They even keep a night light on the fall until 10 pm so you can enjoy its beauty. It's fun to hike up to it and see Lauterbrunnen and the fall from high above. What a fantastic, serene place.

Yelp Review 2026 #122:…read more A fun thing to do and an amazing place to visit. I got with a discount for being a Swiss Travel Pass holder. The bus stop is right in front of this place so it's super easy to get to. I got here a few minutes after they opened. So, there were quite a few people without being crowded. Except some of the people who were there were obnoxiously loud and it echoes through the cave. There are signs posted to be quiet but some people choose to ignore signs. There are parts that are a bit slick, some parts you have to bend a little bit as the ceiling is low, there are steps and stairs, it's chilly since it's a cave. Si, be sure to bring a jacket and wear the right shoes. Be mindful of those with mobility issues, they might have to wait for you at the restaurant (it's still a steep trek though) while you tour the cave. A lot of people would take breaks on the way to the entrance. Bring water. Each part of the cave is numbered so just follow the numbers - however the arrows can be confusing. I got to number 18 and didn't know where to go I ended going back to where I came from so I walked back to 18, walked the opposite direction and made it to 19-22 before exiting. "According to a legend, St. Beatus lived here in the 2nd century, who was believed to be one of the Irish messengers of the faith. After his arrival, Beatus is said to have driven away the dragon dwelling in the cave and then settled there to preach the teachings of Christianity and heal the sick." You'll see St. Beatus' cell, stalactites, stalagmites, and grottoes. You can have a nice view of Lake Thun from here.

The views from the top and outside are truly magical, overlooking a massive lake that makes the entire visit feel surreal. QUICK heads-up... there is quite a bit of walking and many steps, and some areas can be slippery, so it may not be ideal for anyone with limited mobility. That said, if you're able to do the walk, it's 100% worth it. A truly beautiful and memorable experience.

This was by far the easiest way of getting to Gimmelwald or Murren without hiking and it is the only way to the summit of the Schilthorn. The cable car takes about 6 minutes to get to Gimmelwald and about 12 to Murren. The summit is a 30 minute ride. You will need to stop at each stop and transfer to another cable car to go up higher. Buying tickets was easy and the associates speak multiple languages. We took the cable car to Murren and it was €22 round trip. We were also able to get off in Gimmelwald for a peek around the village. The staff are very friendly and each station has restrooms and are clean. The cars are a less than 20 minute drive from Interlaken on a beautiful mountain road. Try out this cable car and you won't be disappointed.

You won't regret paying the money. You just can't appreciate the beauty of these mountains until you get up there. You can buy your ticket for the cable car at the local train station or at the park. There is more to do than just look at beautiful scenery 1. Cliff walking (Free) 2. impressive, modern, interactive, fun James Bond exhibition to commemorate the making of part of the 1967 OHMSS 007 movie (Free) 3. Several restaurant 4. Rotating 360 degree Restaurant Check the weather forecast, as there's no point in going up if the mountains if they are covered in clouds. I would try to go when there are clear skies (no rain/clouds), so you can truly appreciate the sky views. You can find a 24hour live web- footage of the Views from the website to see if the skies are clear. Snow blindness is also very real. Bring your sunglasses and sunscreen. FYI VERY IMPORTANT - if you are a tourist in Switzerland - consider buying Travel pass when you go based on the number of days you stay. You get several perks of buying the Swiss Pass. 1. With this Pass- you get to ride all trains boats and buses for free. 2.With the pass you also get 50% off all Skylifts/trams taking you up to the mountain tops. FYI if you think you will save money by buying Swiss train tickets individually, you probably wont. The individual price value for a single train ticket is very expensive. Especially if you are going from major cities to country side. You may need to use several trains.

Yelp Review 2026 #88:…read more Located along Reuss River connecting old town and new town Luzern, Chapel Bridge or Kapellbrücke. It's iconic because when you look up "Lucerne" on Google, a picture of this bridge pops up. It was built in the 1300s and is the oldest covered wooden bridge in Europe. When you through the bridge, you'll see paintings of Swiss history. A fire in 1993 burnt the bridge but it was reconstructed and re-opened a year later. The Water Tower at the end of this bridge was once a prison. It serves other purposes since then. The water is so clean and clear so when you take pictures, you can capture reflections of the bridge and the buildings around it. There's a lot of places you can take pictures of this bridge from. It has no bad angles. Work it, girl! The best part? It's free to see and walk through. We got here before 7:15am and only 4 people were here. By 8am, annoying people with tripods and selfie sticks started showing up with their entitled you're-in-my-shot attitude. They're never cute!

The hanging flowering plants that decorate the bridge make it the most photographed spot in Lucerne along with its 13th century water tower. The tower was once a prison in medieval times. The original bridge was built in the early 1300s. Unfortunately, most of the wooden structural parts of the bridge were destroyed in a fire in 1993 along with the triangular historical paintings. I believe some did survive and were restored. The other paintings are reproductions. It's still beautiful despite all of this. We found it to be very crowded but easy to find a space for pictures. The view of the painted buildings along the Rathausquai is priceless. It's a great place to be on a sunny day. It's also the perfect place to be on a rainy day to shield you from the elements. It's very close to the transportation hub (train, bus, and ferry). There are many awesome restaurants with great terrace views of the bridge. Depending on the season, there will be roasted chestnut kiosks along the river as well. It was probably the first place that we visited on the day we arrived. It just happened to be the perfect route to take on our way to visiting the historic Lion Monument. Make that crossing for the history and great views from the bridge. You won't be disappointed.
