    Their photo of saint's grave....
    John R.

You can take the boat, but be prepared for a steep uphill climb for 45 minutes. The local bus stops nearby. There is a small car park at the base of this site. In the later two cases, you'll still have a short, but very steep climb to the admissions office. Note, however, that the saint's grave can be visited without admission. Otherwise, it's a wet cave! Be sure to dress for cool 55 degrees Fahrenheit. You will go in and come back out retracing your steps. The guide can be downloaded if you have good reception but I didn't find much more informative than the 30 plus lit signs inside the cave. Unfortunately, they don't have the "lampenflora" growth under control. Need lights on motion detecting, so it stays dark. You can have a decent lunch and a nice view out over the lake, but the more formal restaurant is closed except on the weekends when we visited. It's a fascinating wet cave!

These waterfalls are small but so picturesque with the little bridges crossing over. They are right next to Lake Brienz, so there are gorgeous views from the falls. I read that these falls were the inspiration for JRR Tolkien's Rivendell, but I'm skeptical because I read that only on the website for these falls and nowhere official. Regardless, I can see this being a mini Rivendell. It's a short climb to the top, where there is a cafe, a hotel, bathrooms, and some caves you can pay to enter.

This was fantastic to see, it was a great walk to the entrance of the caves, once inside it was really beautiful to see. Lots of water running through beautiful elaborate rock formations that have been carved out through centuries of rushing water. We beat the crowd which made it extremely easy to get through, if you plan to make this your stop I would get there early, it would have been more difficult to walk through the caves with more people.

If you're in Lucerne and looking for an unforgettable day trip, Mount Pilatus offers an experience…read morethat's hard to beat. From stunning views to exciting transportation options, this Swiss gem has it all. We were part of a guided tour group and started with a bus ride ( gathered as a group in a parking lot where a tour bus took us further from there) to the cable cars base station at Kriens. For a scenic journey up the mountain, we got into the aerial cable cars ( small ones to begin with and then the big one towards the end of the ride closer to the summit). The ride itself was a highlight, offering sweeping views of Lucerne, Lake Lucerne, and the surrounding Swiss Alps. As we ascended, we could see the landscape transform from lush green meadows to rocky, snow-dusted peaks. The ride was smooth, relaxing, and gave us plenty of opportunities to look at those breathtaking vistas. Reaching the top of Mount Pilatus at 2,132 meters was a moment of pure awe. The panoramic views are jaw-dropping and on a clear day, you can see all the way to the Jura Mountains and the Black Forest in Germany. The alpine landscape was absolutely stunning, and we found ourselves just standing there, taking it all in.The clouds were moving fast in and out though for our initial part of the trip it was pretty cloudy all the way. There are several hiking trails at the summit, ranging from easy walks to more challenging routes. We chose to stroll along some of the easier paths, which were well-maintained and offered even more incredible views of the surrounding peaks. The summit also features the "Dragon Path," which was a cool, slightly daring way to experience the mountain, with its narrow walkways and dramatic cliffside views. Few of us chose to venture in there but it definitely was worth the effort. After exploring the summit, we took a break at one of the restaurants at the top. We ate at Restaurant Bellevue where by you essentially pick a plate size and fill it up and pay by the plate and not by the weight of the contents. Costly for sure though at that height that's something that is to be expected. The view from the restaurant can be good to great depending on the moving clouds and your seating as well. There happens to be Pilatus Kulm Hotel as well that offers a cozy atmosphere and place to stay for those that choose to stay up atop the summit. For the descent, the tour package had the iconic Pilatus cogwheel train down from the summit. The journey was thrilling, with the train descending at a steep incline almost like we were riding into a postcard. The views kept changing as we moved down the mountain, from lush forests to alpine meadows and finally back to the picturesque lakeside. Once we reached the bottom, we capped off the adventure with a relaxing ferry ride back to Lucerne. Cruising across Lake Lucerne was the perfect way to wind down after a day full of adventure, with the sun reflecting off the water and the mountain peaks in the distance. It was peaceful, serene, and the perfect conclusion to an incredible day. Our trip to Mount Pilatus was nothing short of amazing. Whether you're seeking thrilling outdoor activities or simply want to take in some of the most stunning views in Switzerland, this mountain has something for everyone. The combination of cable cars, the cogwheel train, and the ferry ride made for an unforgettable experience that I highly recommend to anyone visiting Lucerne

Pilatus felt like something out of a postcard. There are plenty of viewing platforms, short hikes, and photo spots, all with clear signage. We enjoyed the snow at the summit. Everything was clean, safe, and very Swiss-level efficient. Going down toward Alpnachstad was quite long that my sister fell asleep, but incredible. It's not cheap, but the experience fully lives up to the price. Pro tip: go early on a clear day to avoid crowds and get the best views.

This was by far the easiest way of getting to Gimmelwald or Murren without hiking and it is the only way to the summit of the Schilthorn. The cable car takes about 6 minutes to get to Gimmelwald and about 12 to Murren. The summit is a 30 minute ride. You will need to stop at each stop and transfer to another cable car to go up higher. Buying tickets was easy and the associates speak multiple languages. We took the cable car to Murren and it was €22 round trip. We were also able to get off in Gimmelwald for a peek around the village. The staff are very friendly and each station has restrooms and are clean. The cars are a less than 20 minute drive from Interlaken on a beautiful mountain road. Try out this cable car and you won't be disappointed.

You won't regret paying the money. You just can't appreciate the beauty of these mountains until you get up there. You can buy your ticket for the cable car at the local train station or at the park. There is more to do than just look at beautiful scenery 1. Cliff walking (Free) 2. impressive, modern, interactive, fun James Bond exhibition to commemorate the making of part of the 1967 OHMSS 007 movie (Free) 3. Several restaurant 4. Rotating 360 degree Restaurant Check the weather forecast, as there's no point in going up if the mountains if they are covered in clouds. I would try to go when there are clear skies (no rain/clouds), so you can truly appreciate the sky views. You can find a 24hour live web- footage of the Views from the website to see if the skies are clear. Snow blindness is also very real. Bring your sunglasses and sunscreen. FYI VERY IMPORTANT - if you are a tourist in Switzerland - consider buying Travel pass when you go based on the number of days you stay. You get several perks of buying the Swiss Pass. 1. With this Pass- you get to ride all trains boats and buses for free. 2.With the pass you also get 50% off all Skylifts/trams taking you up to the mountain tops. FYI if you think you will save money by buying Swiss train tickets individually, you probably wont. The individual price value for a single train ticket is very expensive. Especially if you are going from major cities to country side. You may need to use several trains.
