It's the village in Bern that is best known for having 72 waterfalls within its picturesque glacial valley surrounded by mountains. We didn't count them or see them all, but we did see a sign leading the way to 67 falls.
It's the perfect place to be for any traveler. Many were taking advantage of the beautiful weather at the Jungfrau Camping site that we passed through to get to the Weiss Lütschine River. This is where you can get an amazing view of the Lauterbrunnen Valley and village with Staubach falls in the background. There's many things to see along the trail on the river.
The village is a great starting point for hiking trails, skiing, and chasing waterfalls. There's a BOB and WAB train station as well as a cableway connecting you to the BLM train station to Mirren. There are so many mountains & attractions that you can see just by taking these train routes from Lauterbrunnen. It's easy to see why this village is a popular destination. There are accommodations for just about every type of traveler.
We could have easily spent a whole day here. Many people say that it's like being in a fairytale. It really is! It even inspired a young hiker named J.R.R. Tolkien to write a book about hobbits. The beauty of nature is magical. Don't pass it up when taking that journey through Bernese Oberland. read more
