Great coffee! African-style beans. Very good dark roast (especially if you love dark and African beans, which I do). I brought My wife a medium roast, but she felt like it was still too dark for her. I got the dark roast and felt it was perfect. Pastries (double-baked croissant and mixed-berry danish) were excellent, too. The Danish in particular was full of real fruit, and sweet and juicy without being a sugar bomb. Staff was friendly; owner, too, when he arrived. Had a great chat with the owner. Lots of regular's. I think I and 1 other were first-timers. Most of the folks in and out during the 2 1/2 hours I was there were known. It means something when folks come back, and they had a lot of them. Dark-ish, quiet, but not too dark for reading. If I'm ever in that area again, I'll be back. read more

I am on a quest to try different roasters in the neighborhood, so we traveled to Mizizi's who focuses on roasting African Coffee beans. Mizizi stands for the root of the plant in Swahili. Their espresso is called Kibo and offered in both caf/decaf options and hails from the Ethiopian highlands. I was delighted by a tasty double shot and followed that up with a late. Nicole had a late as well. We also ordered an almond and chocolate croissant. I've probably driven by Mizizi a dozen times, not noticing it's there. Hidden off the side of the road, in a small strip. It's that easy to miss. It's definitely a local type of place. When we visited on a Saturday at noon, there were just a few high schoolers studying. Our barista was friendly and made our drinks quickly and even offered to heat up our pastries, which we took her up on. It was a cute place to hang out with bar style chairs at the window sill and a chess set ready to play on top of the window counter top. We seated ourselves in the comfy booths while we savored our food. I asked if they had any savory pastries to which the answer was no, just sweet. The espresso tasted sweet not bitter and seemed to be well dialed in. I liked visiting Mizizi and would definitely swing by again if I happened to be in the neighborhood. read more

The shop is Swahili and sells Ethiopian coffee. The owner is very nice and took time to greet each of us and ask our names while thanking us for visiting. The shop is in a small shopping strip with private parking shared. There's plenty of tables for working and I didn't check if there's WiFi but with the tables, I'd assume so. He can make any kinda espresso drink from a red eye to cortado to mocha and has drip & French press available as well. He also had a good choice of syrups to flavor the drinks if you want (+.75) I got a white chocolate cold brew and my husband got maple bourbon latte which thinking back we should've chosen unflavored to really try the coffees. The cold brew isn't the strongest I've had and I would've put less syrup given the choice although the creaminess is solid. This isn't a super fancy coffee shop so no latte art and his foam is more cappuccino like vs latte like but the latte is pretty good. The maple bourbon syrup is delicious though. They also have a ton of pastries available to purchase like muffins, danishes, croissants, etc and some desserts like tiramisu that aren't on display but listed on the menu. It's not the best coffee I've had but seems the owner is genuine and deserving of a visit. read more

Chill vibes. Phenomenal owner. First met him after my kids had been regulars in high school. He somehow recognized me even though I was alone. He then started asking questions that indicated he was familiar with their events. When you know him for a bit it clocks. Since then I only get in about once a month, and my kids are off at school. This coffee shop is really unassuming from the outside. The inside is decorated with neat prints and art. The coffee is delicious! We had a Chilly Mzizi that was vanilla flavored and a large hot drip coffee with cream. All of the other patrons in the shop were clearly regulars and for good reason. Reasonably priced. So far I've only had great experiences when coming in here, and I have to say I'm happy there is a place I can visit and get actually good coffee, and a kind conversation. The first time we came in here, it was a quiet day, only one other couple in the cafe, so we sat and played chess on one of the tables while the owner made our drinks. The second time we came in, the owner recognized us immediately, and asked us about things I had forgotten I mentioned during the first interaction. All while there were multiple other tables taken up and he clearly had been busy that day, but he made sure to make a point of having that customer connection. Unlike the other coffee shops in the area, the coffee here is actually worth getting. Both vibe for hanging out and sipping on something to drink are on point, and I am so happy I live so close that I can come here but also meet people when I'm out and about. There has been parking every time I've came in too, so I'm never even stressed about time and looking for where to park or anything. The coffee and coffee flavoring selection is great, with something for coffee enthusiasts and people who like something sweet, but they also have a killer tea selection. Mzizi has been on my list for a while and one lazy Thursday morning while working from home I decided to get me a boost to make it through the day. Located in East Cobb off of Johnson Ferry Rd in Marietta. Mzizi is in a small plaza with parking right out front. I came on a rainy Thursday morning and it was pretty empty inside but the smell of coffee was very inviting. I was greeted by the owner Hassan who was really friendly, helpful and welcoming. He told me about that special blends of coffee they had and I was so bummed to find out they were out of Ethiopian coffee. I opted for a red eye with maple bourbon syrup and a smidge of almond milk. The coffee was bold, flavorful and overall delicious. I was a little disappointed there were no pastries this morning but I will definitely be back to try their Ethiopian blends. read more

For those wondering where it is off of Johnson Ferry Road-it's its near where Johnson Ferry Road meets Shallowford Road near the Kroger and the Walmart. It's on the border of Cobb County and Roswell. I've been looking to visit for a while since they have French Press coffee. In this area it's almost impossible to find it unless you go to a special cafe...such as Doucer de France Bakery (they have a Roswell location https://goo.gl/maps/G38ByLTgvhQRm76S9 ) Mzizi serves Batdorf & Bronson coffee which Fodor has called the Seattle based coffee roaster that can "stand up to the best that Seattle has to offer" (that's quite the compliment if you've ever been to Seattle-I mean any city that differentiate between northern and southern Italian coffee has something going for it...for Star War fans that's knowing the difference between AT-AT and AT-TE....anyway, the force is strong with this one- Mzizi coffee. Besides being in a small intimate strip mall with plenty of parking, the space has a bohemian vibe to it with rattan hanging fixtures, faux fire place and fresh baked goods. How was my coffee? absolutely perfect.They definitely know how to make one because lets face it you just can't fake a good cup of coffee. Using good quality coffee beans is a start but not knowing what you are doing-well that's like me buying a set of $3500 golf clubs thinking I can get on the LPGA tour...seriously have you seen me play golf...not pretty! Interesting little spot. Wanted a coffee after an appointment in the area and thought I'd stop in here instead of a chain store. It was around 1pm on Saturday. Two other couples were in the shop, it was quite dark, door was open/no ac on, music was at a decent volume. The decoration was generic but cute. There was only one guy behind the counter, he was pleasant, very chatty, but was not able to multitask well. He took my order while he was making another drink and by the time he'd finished making it he'd already forgotten what I ordered (cold brew with cream). I'm not sure what took so long honestly, when he finished the first drink he didn't call a name or place it on the handoff plane so I don't even know who it was for? My cold brew also took a weirdly long time to make. It was VERY strong and very dark even with the milk added in. It wasn't bad, but it was a more than I'd bargained for. Came out to $5.30 with tax. Overall it was okay. I might come back and try another beverage, but it'll have to be when I'm not on a time limit, so I'm not sure. read more

This is a really sweet little spot! They've got great coffee, plenty of different flavors, milks, etc. The barista John who made my coffee is friendly and makes a great latte! I stopped in to read a book and there were a few other people in and out, so it was quiet without being empty. I would like some more comfortable seating, but otherwise this is a delightful addition to this side of East Cobb and I hope it is successful. read more
