I rarely leave negative reviews, but I believe other travelers should know about my experience…read more I arrived at The Yard Hostel on July 4 at approximately 2:30 PM. I went to bed around 4:00-5:00 AM and woke up around 10:30 AM. Around 11:30 AM, my body started itching and I noticed multiple bites across my upper body. At first, I assumed they were mosquito bites and continued with my day. That night, I went to bed around 1:00 AM. At approximately 4:00 AM on July 6, I suddenly woke up because the top of my right foot was extremely itchy. I lifted the sheets and carefully inspected the bed. That's when I found what appeared to be a bed bug. I immediately took photos and recorded a video. I also have photos documenting the bites on my body. I packed all of my belongings immediately, took a shower, and left the hostel because I had an excursion scheduled that morning. I had barely slept and was exhausted. Later that day, I booked and paid for another hotel because I no longer felt safe returning to The Yard Hostel. I contacted the hostel immediately and sent them the photos and video. They later informed me that they had inspected the room and hired a pest control company, but claimed they found no evidence of bed bugs. The hostel told me they would refund only the final night, since I did not return to sleep there. However, I also requested a refund for the previous night, because that was the night when I discovered the bed bug after my sleep had already been disrupted. That request was refused. To this day, I have received absolutely no refund. After my last messages, the communication stopped and I never received any further response. This incident resulted in: * Multiple itchy bites. * A completely disrupted night's sleep. * Having to pay for another hotel. * Stress about potentially bringing bed bugs home to Canada. * A vacation that was significantly affected. I have kept all of the evidence, including photos of my bites, a video of the bed bug I found, and my conversations with the hostel. Based on both the incident itself and the way it was handled afterward, I cannot recommend staying at The Yard Hostel. I sincerely hope no other traveler has to go through what I experienced.

We were having a few bumps in travel and got into Helsinki in the middle of the night. Our existing reservation said 24-hour front desk but... guess what? Didn't have one. Fortunately, I'd seen Radisson Blu on an app I used and so I called them up to make sure they did indeed have a 24-hour front desk. An hour later, our rental car was parked in their free parking lot and my sleeping 10-year-old and I were safe and sound, cozy and warm on a blustery snowy March night. Now, that said... this place is great and has beautiful views of waterways that come in from the Gulf of Finland. It's a little out-of-the-way from the main downtown but we really loved it. They had an amazing and clean sauna, a small but warm(ish) indoor pool, a delicious buffet breakfast with excellent coffee (included with our reservation but surcharge otherwise), and some fun foosball in the lobby. We used it as a base as it was closer to our friend's house in Espoo and we decided to stay more than that blustery first night because the front desk staff was so friendly and amazing!!! We'd stay here again if in Helsinki! Might see ya there!

Great location, close to Esplanade, shops and restaurants galore. Yet very quiet. The best part is the included breakfast which has every possible item you'd ever want. Great coffee, breads, cheeses and meats, yogurt, cereals hot and cold, smoked fish, fruit, vegetables, sweets. Incredible. You won't need to eat again til dinner time. My only issue was the comforters were too warm in summer. I like to sleep cool. When I got hot I kicked them off, but then got chilly. Would have preferred a simple summer blanket. That is all!

It's also walking distance to many bars, restaurants, the main cathedrals, the ferry peir, and the bus/train station. Staff: very friendly and always with a smile. Says a lot considering they probably have to answer the same exact types of questions to each traveler. They man the front desk 24/7 and will buzz you in whenever you choose to return home. They also clean the common areas daily and it shows. Interior: the hostel is all on the 3rd floor (no elevator) on both sides of a main staircase. There are a variety of rooms from doubles to dorms (6 beds). There are also shared bathrooms/showers on either end of the hall. A bit of a rush in the morning, but otherwise not so bad. Misc: a significant amount of hot water heaters (to bond over coffee or tea); a 'free food' section from travelers who couldn't take the food with them; a very large common area/kitchen; a large variety of maps/tips/schedules; and they will print for 1 euro. I felt it made stepping through presentation material more natural and appealing, since it sort of blended into the décor. The on-site catered lunch was excellent -- it was a salad lunch with many options like garden, greek, salmon, and caesar. The smoked salmon salad was particularly tasty. Standard coffee, tea, water etc. that you'd expect from such a facility. All in all, an exceptional experience and I highly recommend Glo Kluuvi as a business venue. Honestly nothing critical to say -- it was an excellent visit and I hope to return!

There wasn't a thing about this hotel that we disliked. I would highly recommend it!
