For the past 10 years, our family has come together in Emerald Isle for a reunion of sorts. One year in 2007 as we drove closer to Emerald Isle I noticed a whimsical looking building called Harrika's and I had to stop in. It started as a bottle shop, and became the key place where I would stock up on craft beer before heading to the beach house. I've stopped by Harrika's every year since it opened and I've watched it change over the years, evolving from a bottle shop to a bottle shop with four taps, and now with live entertainment on the outdoor stage. It's to the point now, where I bring growlers in several times a week to pick up some great, relatively local beer. The staff are very knowledgable about the beer, which as a home brewer and connoisseur, I appreciate. There really is nothing quite like it around, and if there were, I'd keep going to Harrika's. It is a crime that this place has not been reviewed - it's fantastic! You can go shopping around for beer and knick-knacks (nicknacks? qniq-qnaqs?) and tea WHILE DRINKING BEER AND TEA. It's a tiny place that stocks an impressive number of good beers by the bottle. It has a bunch of beers cold and ready to drink in their backyard patio (or a tiny air-conditioned bar inside), plus four on tap. Let's repeat that. It's a store. And it has four beers on tap. ON TAP. The Flying Dog Raving Bitch IPA (can I say that on here?) was the perfect thing to drink while chatting about beers with the proprietress. Yay, Harrika's Brew Haus. This is where we bring out of towners. The selection is equal to what you would find in the Triangle. One friend says prices are better than Raleigh, my dad says not as good as Asheville. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. They even allow my toddler to strum the house guitar! I don't even like beer but they have a large selection of hard ciders and teas. I don't know that you can come to the Brew Haus and leave having anything bad to say. The staff are a beautiful group of people who know just about all there is to know about beer, and I have been treated like a friend since the first time in. They have $15 growler Wednesdays, open mic nights, trivia nights, live music, and special holiday events. This is our favorite hangout spot and a great way to have something to drink while avoiding the drunken masses of military boys that are at every other bar in town. The beer selection is incredible, and if the don't have what you're looking for, they can probably order it. Beer on tap switches every day, and if you're not a beer fan, they have ciders, hot tea, sodas, etc. Summer hours are great because the backyard is so well decorated and cozy, I crave it through the winter months. Plus the delicious food truck that will park itself outback always offers some great eats. Very dog friendly, and just a wonderful place to spend your weekend. read more

Nice laid back atmosphere. Small cottage with wall to wall local microbrew beer selection. They've recently added a nice new sign/logo that'll last a year and food trucks on Thursday and Saturday. The bier garten out back is super cool. Bought a growler of Golden Monkey that complimented the vaca nicely. Would like to try the pretzels sometime. read more

Great shop with a great beer variety! Employees are always extremely helpful. My husband was looking for a particular beer & the girl working said she could take his name & number down & if they were able to get it, they would call him. Pretty fun place. Great music, tons of types of beer. They have a big outdoor area and other fins stuff like jenga and all kinds of random stuff. It's a really fun place. Lots of people in the local neighborhoods ride their bikes there and have a blast. Highly recommended! read more

I was expecting big things based on the reviews. As far as the beach goes this is a pretty good beer store. The service was very good, welcoming and helpfull. The draft menu was IMO disappointing, although it was good to see Dirt Wolf. The beer selection is good but there is no organization, it's all over the place, not organized by state/country. I was just passing through maybe if I was staying in the area I would have appreciated this place more. read more

I guess I was expecting too much after reading the reviews here or maybe you have to spend a few hours here drinking and listening to a band to get the whole experience.. I don't know. I walked out empty handed and let down. It's a converted house with small rooms. The afternoon I visited it was dark inside and reeking of incense. I had to make several passes through each room to be sure I didn't miss anything as things are all over the place. The decor is kind of bohemian coffee house with beers lined up all over every available surface. Prices were on the high side especially after making stops in Virginia for beers but as others have noted, they are probably not horrible for the aea. read more

We took a day off from the beach.. several sunburns and ventured inland from Atlantic Beach.. my wife had read about Harrika's... and we are both craft beer lovers.. man, am I glad that we made the short drive to this unique and amazing place.. We planned to just take a quick look inside.. but was immediately greeted warmly...offered a Back in Black from 21st Amendment.. and spent the next 30 minutes amazed by the over 1000 labels of beer... I wish I had gotten the name of the hostess..but she helped us pick a 4 pack of local NC crafts... and then a 4 pack of IPA's that are her favorites.. what a hidden jewel of a find for us.. and when we return to the beach..it will be one of our first stops! read more

A great place to take some friends and enjoy a Saturday afternoon. It's kind of a drive from where I live, but it's totally worth it! The selection is HUGE and the staff seems to know about almost everything in their store , which is impressive given their massive selections. I haven't had their cheese and sausage yet, but if it's as good as their beer then I'd also give it five starts! Love it and I'll be back soon for sure! read more

Ton of different beer styles, with a decent selection of NC beers. Great to try the state brews while you're on vacation. Some brews are on tap inside and on the patio. Had a great time looking at all the different beer styles. read more

Harrikas is a wonderful spot to drink great craft beers and hangout with your friends. The walls of beers are clearly labeled by IPAs, Sours and Bourbons, Germans, Belgium's, etc... they even have a LOCAL NC wall full of the best beer from all over North Carolina. I love going on a Thursday night when they have Trivia. Haley is so entertaining and they give away some awesome beer swag and do different beer tastings every week!! Thursday through Saturday they have DAS TRUCK in the biergarten... Harrikas very own food truck, only serving the best quality food.. Rachel and Erika are very knowledgable if you have any questions. All the employees are very friendly and make the shop a wonderful going out experience. They even have an amazing KEG list too!!! We finally tried here last night for the first time. I'd heard of it, but really only thought it was a place to purchase beer (and other items) to take home. We called last week & I spoke with the owner who informed me they have drafts & an outdoor biergarden with live music on Friday nights. We checked out it last night on our way to dinner in Swansboro with a couple of our friends & their kids. There were other kids outside running around, so it's kid friendly. There was live music & a little window going to the outside so you can just order another beer from in the biergarden. They also offer snacks (chips, cheese tray, pretzels & ham tray) as well as a collection of cold bottled beers you can take outside in the biergarden. We thought it was a bit strange at first with all the kids running around a biergarden, but we actually thoroughly enjoy ourselves. The weather was perfect, and the open mic live music was great. We shall return (my husband really wants to purchase some beers & cheese in the future!!) read more

A large selection of bottle beer to go. They also do growlers and kegs. This is our favorite place for beer when we are on Emerald Isle. We sat at the outdoor bar and they had 3 giant fans going. If you like Draught beer that is 400 x's what you should be paying, and a cramped place that maybe lawfully can hold 25 people than this is your place. Draught beer is the ultimate way to drink a beer...and the cheapest! I bought one of the low end pilsners at $4 for 12oz. Which I could have gotten a PBR with a slice of apple and it would have tasted the same...for .50 cents! Unless your made of money and want to sit outside, try somewhere else... read more

Loved this place. They have an excellent selection of international and seasonal beers that I've not been able to find anywhere else since. The atmosphere is cool and relaxed, the staff friendly and the prices reasonable. Absolutely loved coming here in the early evening and just trying a few exciting new beers outside. read more
