Next time we are in Friday Harbor, we will pay another visit and think about upcoming birthdays. The selection is varied and broad.

My daughter was taking a nap in the stroller, but my husband said I should go take a look. The store has a really cozy and warm vibe with all the cute stuffed animals around, and there was another family with a baby in the stroller at that time. They also do customization and will help you sew stuff on. I am not entirely sure how that works but it sounds like a super good idea for baby shower gifts or stuff like that. The only downside is that the stuff here aren't cheap, and a bit on the higher price point. However, I think the quality is worth the $$$. The store is small, but I'm sure you will find something you like as well! I got the knitted chicken and it's super soft! My daughter played with it afterwards and accepted our new "family member" on the way back home.

She gave us some great visitor information as well. Wendy was also very low-key about having my kids in the shop (10 and 11 year olds). They have been taught to respect art and touch only when given permission and even though there is a load of fragile pottery, Wendy remained unruffled when we walked in with the kids. (I'm sure she was on high-alert but never showed it!) Prices range from a $0.25 postcard up to sculptures and paintings in the $1000s. Virtually everything in the shop is made by an on-island artist. Yes, it's in the main tourist area but there is nothing touristy about it. We have gone back twice for gifts and it's a low-pressure, local vibe. I absolutely love the collections there and spent more than I intended. But I love knowing the origin of the art and the fact that the proprietors are local too. American Cruise Line brought us here for an excursion. We had a class in glass fusion doing an…read moreocean theme with an orca on a flat glass roughly 6x11". This was an incredible opportunity for learning a new artistic process using glass as a medium. At the end of designing our works, they will be placed in a kiln and heated until the glassware is all fused together. After the appropriate cooling time she will ship our works home to us. The instructor Joanie was very enthusiastic and helpful in assisting us with the process. The shop is also a gallery with works for sale all done here locally, no imported anything. This store is worth a visit as there are many very nicely crafted earrings, notecards, wares from various different local artists.

This bookstore jumped out at me, and I knew I needed to take a look. Having a very young niece, I'm constantly on the hunt for books to enrich her developing mind. I hit the jackpot with this place! The owner has a wonderful spirit and is exceptionally helpful in showing a new customer around. I love a small business with passion for its offerings, it's critical for the atmosphere to be just right. You can feel the passion in this space. Having done a lot of my shopping online over the last few years, I don't often venture into shops. But this one pulled me in and rewarded me with a bounty of books for my darling girl, and I'll be taking trips to this area, specifically with the store in mind!
