What a hidden gem in Princeton Illinois! Only open Friday thru Sunday.. this gem makes some of the best pies I have ever had. The owner loves what he does and it shows . They offer a wide selection of fruit and creme pies. You can also call in advance if there is a flavor you are craving or if you want a gluten free crust. Prices are very reasonable. We sat inside and had the lemon meringue and banana creme. Both were fantastic. Purchased a few cinnamon rolls and a key lime pie to go. Will definitely be back! read more

We drove from Woodhaven Lakes campground to explore the town of Princeton and had a recommendation to stop in here for a real treat. I am so happy we did. The proprietor aka the baker was friendly and informative and truly loves what he does. He gave me some hints for making a gluten free pie crust which I appreciated. The decor inside is kitschy cute and the variety of pies is impressive. He even has whole pies to "Take n Bake" in many flavors including gluten free. We decided to sit down at the communal style tables inside and enjoy a slice of pie and they were served on delightful mismatched china plates. I ordered a lavender lemonade to wash down the delicious lemon meringue slice which was HUGE! Can you tell I love lemon? My husband enjoyed his slice of banana cream pie too and took a key lime slice home along with cinnamon rolls for himself and our neighbors. Myrtle's is only open Friday-Sunday. Be sure to call ahead and place an order if you are looking for a specific flavor of pie. There was also a nice selection of cinnamon rolls (also huge), cookies, banana bread and pie slices to go. This is truly my favorite bakery and I've been to many. Be sure to stop in and treat yourself. Life's too short to not have dessert first. read more

I can't recommend this place more. The staff was great and helpful. So many scratch pies to choose from, we got 6 slices and a cinnamon roll. The flavors we tried were: banana cream- didn't disappoint and I love a good banana cream pie chocolate raspberry cream- great chocolate and raspberry flavor and I'm used to eating cacao gooseberry-great filling and crust cheesecake turtle- incredibly balanced lavender lemon cream- good lemon flavor but lavender didn't taste natural as I'm used to from my teas gf peach- this was so disappointing. the filling wasn't peachy and the crust was virtually inedible due to flavor cinnamon bun- was okay, not great read more

Given the holiday season, I needed a few pies to bring over to family members houses. While I was late to place a Christmas order, I was told first come, first serve morning of. So I set the alarm for 7am and headed over. 15 minutes later, I went with 2 pies which were an Apple and a French Silk Pie. So it's refreshing to taste an apple pie that is not added with preservatives. Loved it but for sure the winner amongst the family was the Chocolate French Silk pie. Wow was it fresh and amazing!!!! It was a hit and I anticipate heading back in the future. However they get one less star since no wore wore masks in the store. Seriously? Plenty of street parking is available. read more

My family and I heard about this place from an online source, so we'd figure we'd come out and try it. Once we did, I was blown away. This tiny, almost hole-in-the-wall place serves easily the best pie I've ever had. I had a chocolate cake batter pie with salted caramel and brownie in the bottom. It was almost beyond words how delicious it was. The man running it was also very polite, going so far as to help a different customer find another restaurant. So worth the stop! The selection of pies is vast. I had the lavender blueberry overload, I think that means huge! My mom had the key lime overload. Both were so good. Myrtles Cafe and Pies is a quaint little place with a homey vibe. We tried 4 different types of pie a 3 different types of tea. The pie pieces were large and very good. They have a very large assortment of homemade pies they said they make fresh daily and change out often. We love love love Myrtles. We have tried many of their pies. Their fruit pies are perfect with all fruit in the middle and a wonderful flaky crust. There are way too many types of pies to list them all but we've had Banana Cream, Red Velvet Cake Batter, silk, chocolate, Oreo, butterscotch ( my favorite), pistachio, mint chocolate chip..... this list goes on. You can buy it by the slice or the whole pie. I've had a lot of pies and these are by far the best pies I've ever had. If you're in town or even passing nearby it's absolutely a must. And they also usually have boxes of cookies, cinnamon rolls, the bourbon cinnamon rolls are to die for! Just amazing. Also there's a location in Tiskilwa that I've picked up pies and even stopped and had a slice and quiet cup of coffee. Both locations are fantastic and friendly. If they don't have what you're looking for or you want to reserve a favorite just call them or stop in and in non busy season they just needed a couple of days notice. read more

Stumbled upon Myrtle's on a road trip from Chicago and this might be my best discovery to date. The blue goose was a gooseberry (no idea - lol) and blueberry pie which was the perfect combination of sweet and tart. Hard to explain because I've never tasted gooseberry flavor before, but I can see a two hour drive in my future just for this pie! I should also mention while at the shop, I had a slice of coconut cream and my daughter had banana cream and both were perfectly delicious, but the blue goose take and bake was simply award winning! Worth driving from the Quad Cities! ! The vegetable quiche was very hearty and delicious pies. Trying something different with a cup of their cream of Khorabi(sp?) Soup. Tasted like a cauliflower type vegetable. My lunch mate had the chef turkey chef salad and it was huge! It was served in something like a large mixing bowl. She she recommended the cranberry dressing, it was delicious! Of course we weren't going to leave until we sampled the pies. What a hard choice to make between the cream pies, fruit pies, pumpkin and sweet potato pies! I ended up taking a whole pie home and getting a slice of something different to eat there. Came here on a whim, and SO happy we did! Luckily we walked in 10 minutes before closing, and they still had a great selection of pies left. NOTE | It's insanely cute in here! We ordered a slice of the Oreo peanut butter and the last slice of the caramel banana. FRIENDS! After our first bite we had fallen so in love, that we knew pie would just never be the same. I grew up in the area and my family still is there. We stopped by Myrtle's and were not disappointed. The staff were all in masks. Patrons are required to wear them inside. With so many choices, it is hard to decide. I had Carmel apple pie warmed up with vanilla ice cream. Delicious!! The crust is right from a grandma s cook book. Flaky and delicious! My husband had pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Beside the pie, the coffee was delicious. We could not believe in the middle of the afternoon, our coffee was so fresh! We bought a whole strawberry rhubarb pie and it was the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten. The crust had no sugar or taste. The filling was just mush with no discernible way to tell if it was fruit or not. It literally was mush. All the pies looked very amateurish and I should've walked away when I saw that. It was also $20 and way too expensive for this disgusting thing they call pie. read more
