TRUE CONFESSIONS: I cheated on my regular nail lady with Caren and, in fact, had to completely…read morebreakup with said nail lady (who I loved) because there is no way I can ever go back after one visit to Caren! At first, I was nervous about the price (about $30 more than my old nail lady would charge). However, I quickly learned (as I eventually did with the shoes, purses and makeup that I purchase) that you get what you pay for with your nails -- and quality is everything! Caren isn't just your typical "nail lady" -- she is a TRUE ARTIST! And I'm not just talking about the amazing nail art she does -- the care and attention to detail she exhibits is truly an art form in itself. I've never had such detailed prep work done, nor has any other nail tech paid this sort of mind to the most minute details of my nails (which is something I ALWAYS notice), and I have learned SO MUCH. You want decent-looking nails that will last you a couple weeks, maybe gain you a compliment or two, that will likely crack and chip, will allow for cuticle breakage, and will probably end up looking haggard after a week? I can recommend you to my OLD nail lady. You want AMAZING NAILS that will gain you compliments everywhere you go, that are strong and fortified, super fun and creative (or boring and unimaginative; if that's what you're into, she'll do it) and will stay looking fresh and shiny after 3 to 4 weeks? I HIGHLY suggest Chrensetter Nails!

The shop is clean, spacious, and has a huge selection of nail colors to choose from. I made an appointment and was the first customer of the morning. I called in a day ahead and made an appointment (which I would recommend). I got there 20 minutes early and was lucky to be taken by the only male technician there (when I called and asked for him they said he was booked). I was only waiting in the seating area for 4 minutes. Everyone was very friendly and when I wanted to respond to one of the other workers, the male technician translated everything so I was able to understand everyone. I got a full set of acrylics, stiletto, long, gel, and sparkles, for only $38. I couldn't believe it. He was very gentle with my hands and used the metal spinning file delicately. He took extra time to make sure everything was even. He caught me admiring my nails a few times and asked me each time if they were okay or if I wanted him to fix anything. I really appreciated that. He made the nails nice and strong but not too thick. I walked out of the salon happy, pain-free, and absolutely satisfied with my new set. I will definitely be going back for a fill and recommending to friend.

Anyways, this is the only place I've gotten my nails done in Los Angeles and I won't be going anywhere else! First of all, I've always been very pandemic conscious, and I appreciated how diligent and clean Janis's place was with pandemic precautions. It's usually just her working, so you're only engaging with one person which I love more than a crowded salon. The attention to detail is impeccable. I love that she gives a discount for Occidental workers which is wonderful and this is just my favorite place to go. Always book in advance... I usually book 2 or three appointments at a time. Spaced out when I'm thinking about it. She usually doesn't have last-minute availability because people are regulars, and they book up far in advance. Wonderful work, kind person, great service.

Just something to keep in mind in case you're in a rush. The place itself is clean and the ladies work very quickly. Loved my pedicure! My toes look amazing and if I do come back, it will only be for a pedicure because I did not love my manicure. Not knowing any better I agreed to do a fill--which, in hindsight, should've been a dead giveaway since I've never heard of a Gel X fill. The pictures speak for themselves lol. The fill was $55 according to my nail tech, and had I known they'd look this deformed, I would've paid extra for a new set, as those seem to be fine based on other customers' pictures. Great place otherwise! Didn't see any reviews for the service I received so felt it necessary to share.

Ultimately, ANY specific or special requests here are viewed as problematic and will get you labeled and talked about -- possibly even yelled at. Yes, yelled at. I came in at 4 on my last visit and was asked to come back at 5 for a fill and pedicure. By 6:15, dyeing my very long pedicure process-- when I asked why no one has started my nails, I was yelled at then ignored while I watched them take new walk ins and pretend they had "appointments". By virtue of the fact I was asked to come back at 5, didn't I have one as well? Another patron noticed this and also mentioned it had happened to her there. The manager ignored it and pretended not to notice. The whole vibe of the staff is that they are basically doing you a favor. Please. Nothing could be further from the truth. The work is barely acceptable -- but it's close to home. I finally directly asked the manager why I was forced to wait and she fed me something about being short staffed. However, I later watched yet another patron get both hands and feet serviced at once, so I have no idea. I will say there is one man there who does an okay job, but to my sadness he was absent that day. Thus, I had to settle for whomever I got. She was nice enough, but her talent was limited -- to put it nicely. My fill looks worse than my original new growth. She didn't even remove the lifting product first. All bad. I'll need to remove these by the end of the week to protect the integrity of my nails. Oh and remember I arrived at 4 -- I left at 7:50. So much for an early drop in. Avoid this place like the plague.
