My wife went to the Mint Hill office for a routine eye exam. After the exam they told her she did not have insurance and charged her for the entire amount. She is on Medicare which the plan covers 100% with no copays but they refused to accept her insurance. Once I contacted them they tried to tell me her insurance does not cover. After some time of discussion they realized it does cover and refunded the entire amount. Now I had to wait for 5-15 days for the refund which is not acceptable since the initial charge only took minutes to be posted to my checking account. Last year I had a similar issue with then and went to a different Optometrist this year. Maybe my wife will also choose a diferent eye doctor next year because of the office services read more

The office manager has been very rude to me on the phone and in person from the time I started going there in January of 2023 until November of 2024. I stopped going there because of her. She was so rude. Dr Farris is great and the optical girls are great. They just need a more personable office manager that knows how customer service and how to talk to people and treat them! read more

Changed it up this year and tried a different location for my routine eye exam. I was able to schedule my appointment online using their portal. Received text message confirmation the day before. Parking was ample and it was easy to get from Parking spaces to the front door. Upon arrival, the check in process was fast and very Covid aware/safe. Team was super diligent from asking me Covid medical questions, having me change into their medical mask, temperature checks and plenty of tape outlining where to stand and where to walk. The chairs in the waiting room were taped off to ensure social distancing. Office was super clean! Routine eye check was streamlined. Wait was minimal to get dilated, check eye pressure and check vision. Dr. Funderburk answered all of my questions! The entire team was friendly and you could tell that they enjoy working together. Done doing business with this place. I returned for my annual checkup and was treated like I was burden to the front desk, when I returned again to pick up lens was treated like I was interrupting her day. She snatched the glasses to replace the lens, then all but threw them back at me with a huge smudge, asked her for a cloth to clean them she snapped at me saying they don't need cleaning. Held them up she grabbed them back scrubbed them and thew back them. That's when I saw the stress crack in the frames. Before even looking at it she starts spouting off about I should expect this since these are press in lens blah blah. When she finally looked I could see in her demeaner she knew she messed up. Instead of accepting responsibility she started rattling off about 1/2 price off new pair IF they break through ...... There's more to this story but I think you get the idea. Don't waste your time, this place could care less about it's clients, just scroll through these reviews. Do not use this office for anything. Could not get the eye exam correct. When I went back to have the glasses checked, I was told I needed an appointment. When I had called the day before, I was just told to come in. The office response was that the person who answered the phone did not know what she was talking about. Great answer! Wanted me to wait 3 hours so they could see me. I live far away. There is no consideration for the customer. Heard multiple customers asking for a re-check. Go elsewhere. My husband visited for his annual exam. The claim was filed as a medical exam vs his annual vision exam under medical vs. vision. We had already paid the extra to have the retina pictures taken and by the office filing this incorrectly now responsible for a deductible payment. The year prior the exam was filed correctly but the up-sale on glasses was very expensive. We also did not receive a copy of the prescription which was the main reason for the visit. After multiple calls was informed Dr. recalled, after 4 1/2 months, that my husband specifically requested that he did not have a regular exam for a prescription on the medical exam. I wish my memory was that good. Regardless, My Eye Dr. has lost a patient, actually two. I do not recommend this location other than to stay far away. read more

I recently made my first visit to My Eye Dr, and I'm pretty sure they won't actually become my eye doctor. I'm not a fan of hard-sell tactics at a doctor's office and the service was extremely poor. When I called to schedule my appointment, I told them I wanted a basic eye exam. I also requested the pricing on a contact lens exam and was told it was "between 100 and 200". That seemed like an awful big range, so I decided to forego it. I was also asked if I wanted to have the Retinal Photography done, which I declined as it is $30. When you schedule an appointment, they request that you create a login at their website and enter in all of your information, including your insurance information and medical history. I actually liked this part since it was much simpler than answering questions at check-in or filling out a form. Of course, when you fill out this information, they ask if you'd like the Retinal Photography. I again decline. My visit began with my arrival at the office, located in Mint Hill. The office is very nice and clean. When I arrived at the front desk, there were three employees. Two were having a non-work conversation while the third was answering questions over the phone. I waited for a good 10 minutes until the woman on the phone was able to help me. She took me into a dimly-lit side room not far from the desk and did the basic tests (looking at eye charts, color-blindness, etc). Apparently I'm suddenly color-blind, having never been diagnosed previously. I think it might have something to do with the fact she had my glasses and the room was mood-lit. She then asks if I'd like the Retinal Photography. I decline for third time, though the first time in person. She then says it's not something they normally do, but she can reduce the price to $20 this one time because it's very important to my eye health. I again decline. I guess most people don't decline because she didn't really know what to say. She lead me back to an exam room and as the doctor came in, she informed him I hadn't had the retinal photography done. I then proceeded to get a 10 minute infomercial for how important the retinal photography is, how much more of the eye they can see, and they don't normally do it, but he could reduce the price of the Retinal Photography to $20 this one time because it's very important to my eye health. Again, I decline. My exam proceeded normally and when it came time to dilate my eyes, I again heard how important it was that I consider the Retinal photography because it's very important to my eye health. At this point, I'm about to get up and walk out. I tell them to go ahead with the dilation, that I'm not getting the retinal photography done. After they put the solution in my eyes to dilate, I'm sent out to the showroom to look at glasses. So, I'm looking at glasses with my vision hazy. The woman who helped me with them looked at my paper work and proceeded to tell me that I should have gotten the Retinal Photography done as it's very important to my eye health. (She was also one of the women who'd been having a non-work conversation and ignored me when I walked in.) That's when I'd really had enough. My Eye Dr really obviously has a set script because every single person I spoke with mentioned how they could reduce the price to $20 this one time and it's very important to my eye health. If everyone has the ability to adjust the price to $20 this one time... why not just make the price of the Retinal Photography twenty bucks? And if it's so extremely vital to my eye health, why not just include it with the regular exam? I tell her my vision is very hazy, and I'm taken back to another exam room where I wait for the doctor. He comes in and sits down at the computer, making an exaggerated effort to find photos of my retina in their system. I let him go thru it and then I remind him that I didn't have them done. I got the speech again. He performs the rest of the eye exam and we exchange pleasantries. I head back out to the counter, where the same woman who helped me look at glasses is. I pay her and ask for a copy of my prescription. She literally tossed a pad on the counter while sighing and wrote down my prescription, then took it back for the doctor to sign. I also asked for a pair of the disposable sunglasses they give you when you have your eyes dilated and was told they didn't have any because most people got the Retinal Photography. Of course, it's a bright sunny day outside so the light hurt my eyes considerably. However, I wasn't going to argue with anyone, I was completely over it. I got in my car and very carefully drove to the Dollar Tree (down by the Food Lion) and bought the largest pair of sunglasses I could find on the rack so I was able to drive to work. So, no. I can't recommend My Eye Dr unless you'd like to buy glasses and retinal photographs from staff that used car salesmen would call pushy. read more

I have been a patient at this office for a few years, mostly because the location is close to my house and I have had success with other MyEyeDoctors in the past. I have had multiple ordering issues in the past few years, and continue to give them chances to improve on their service, but it is getting to the point I am not sure I want to return. Every year, I order a year long supply of contacts. As part of the deal with this program, if you run out of contacts before the year is up, you are supposed to be able to order trial lens to get you to the point of your next appointment. Due to a faulty box of contacts, I ran out of contacts earlier than expected and called a few weeks ago to order some replacement trials. I was told they were ordered and it would take a few weeks to come in (which since the office was closed they would be shipped directly to my house). I said ok, and after not hearing from anyone or getting the contacts I ordered 3 weeks ago, I decided to call back. A Dr. (not the one I normally see), called me back via phone and told me that they do not have my trials (and they have not been ordering trials over the past few weeks). He mentioned some of the workers are on furlough (not sure how that would impact the lens company sending my order) and offered to give me a "close" prescription. I am a strict contact wearer with bad eyes, so I was not comfortable putting in a slightly weaker contact lens (and personally find that to be a terrible "acceptable" solution offered by a doctor). Even worse, I was told that I would be able to order a box if I paid for the full price and somehow they would be able to deliver these (giving me trials= no revenue for them as opposed to a box= revenue for them). If getting me a box is the only option, they should be picking up the cost since the year long plan should be offering the free replacement service! I know this is a tough time, but any form of doctor should be considered an "essential" service and you should be able to get contact lens with little issue. As I mentioned, this is not the first issue I have had with this office. A lot of orders of mine have been "dropped" over the past few years and I have had to make multiple follow-up calls on orders. My review actually has to do with their COVID-19 preventative process. I was properly screened when I entered the clinic, when asked if I was diagnosed with COVID or been around COVID positive people. I said I was a RN and have cared for patients with Covid. She then made a sigh and took a step back. I certainly understand and we finished the screening. I then noticed the optometrist in the back of the clinic experiencing a coughing fit and then he walked up front and checked his temperature. He looked very pale and was obviously sick. The lady who screened me walked over and whispered how are you feeling and he returned "awful ". They then realized I was looking and walked around the corner and started talking. Unfortunately, they did not realize I could hear them. In my opinion, he is as definitely under the weather and the same scrutiny they use for the customers should have been used for him. This is an integrity issue for they were going to complete my exam knowing he was not feeling well and put my health at risk. For shame!!!! read more

I was told that they tried to call to cancel my appointment because my Dr. was sick. I reschedule. All the while the person I was talking with, was sitting there looking at me and I looking at her. Someone did come to the door but I told her I was talking with the lady at the desk. 3. Got home checked my answering machine, no message. 4. If you're a contact lens wester and into convenience check out the MyEyeDocor locations throughout Charlotte. I get in for annual eye exam and get contact lenses at the Mint Hill location. There are also extensive Eyewear selections if you need a backup pair or wear glasses all the time. I've shopped all over for contact lens at the best prices. I found out here that I could request a price comparison with other suppliers such as WalMart and Costco. MyEyeDocor will match the lowest price. The catch here is that you must ASK for the comparison. It's not automatically done. Now I don't worry that I'm not getting low prices and I have a nearby location for ordering, pickup and yearly exams. They also take all insurance plans. Give it a try. I'm completely satisfied with their service and products. read more

At my first visit after the change I was disappointed with the new manager that was in place and voiced my concerns to my Dr. there. If that person was still at this location I would not have even given one star. However last week I went for my exam and it was great. She didn't try and sell me upgades I didn't need but asked my about my daily activities and life style as well as my budget to help me select the right frames and lenses for my needs. I been going to this location before they became my eye doctor. I've never had a problem. The staff is very friendly, informative and knowledgeable. I been going here for 17 years. I wish they would have stayed funderberg and price because it seem to be more quiet and informal in the office. Now there seem to be too many people at the front desk and over in the eye glasses area. Some of them still need some training. This place is terrible... I will never go back... I've never ever felt that pressured into buying glasses, or a year worth of contacts, etc... I wasn't asked what I wanted, the doctor told me that she's ordering contacts. But I have an option on my insurance that I can choose the 100 dollar discount on glasses. And when I mentioned glasses, they literally forced me in to not going that direction and choosing contacts instead... and Jewel told me that the only way I got my contacts is I had to pay extra for a eye fitting... but I've literally have worn the same contact for 10 tears... why in the world do I need a eye firing and pay 25 more dollars. Yeah, I'm out of some money, but if they treat their customers like it's a business and not health care, they will no longer be a business. Also, they were a whole hour late and used excuses. I normally do not leave reviews, but this is merely for people who are shopping around and i just want them to be warned and/or aware. We are new to Mint Hill, and figured to give it a chance to a local eye doctor due to our relocation from out of state. I called and asked few questions about their location, hours and etc, also mentioned over the phone that i see an available slot for 5pm appointment the following Tuesday on their website. The person on the phone agreed and was a ok with me making it over their website instead of with her. On Sunday i even got a call confirming my appointment, so far... business as usual. On Monday, i get a call that my scheduled 5:00pm appointment is not convenient for them, and it was meant for a 10 minute slot (what ever that means, but i clearly stated i am a new patient on the site). Then, she asked if i wanted to reschedule, i agreed and also told her that I am very flexible with time, as i live in close proximity to their office. She also told me that it would only be about 20 minutes. (to remind you 20 minutes is too long for my original appointment, even though they state they are open until 6pm). Unfortunately, the slot that she was offering me for a "new appointment" due to my previously now inconvenient appointment was days past my original day and there was nothing they could do. Bad business practice, don't schedule appointments online, or make this time slots available if don't feel like taking customers for your later appointments, because that's exactly what it seemed to be. They are inefficient with scheduling and saw me 75 minutes after my scheduled appt. to make things worse, they told me every 15 minutes it would only be 5 more minutes to prevent me from walking out. Go to a reputable Eye Dr. that values & respects your time. Let's not even get into how a simple eye appointment & glasses turns into over $300 after insurance. I have had several appointments over the past 2 years. They are never on time. After several trial pairs of contacts due the manufacture eliminating my brand I ask to order 90 days. I was quoted $230.00 for one eye and $120 for the other. I had priced the contacts at 3 other retailer clubs that quoted me $79.50 for each pair and I asked about price match. When they return the call she told me the manager said they would match the price only if I ordered for the year supply. 8 boxes. I said these were new manufacture and I was not that committed. I requested my prescription and now have a 90 day supply for $79.50 per box. read more
